I hear ya. We aren’t cutting the check but the check is an obstacle. As is the draft pick. As is their love for McDermott. As is Beanes love for McDermott. I’m just speaking the reality of the situation. If we make it happen, I’m all for it. I just don’t think it has much of a chance (if any) of happening. I think he’ll end up in Denver making 25M a year
-
I have hope too….. but that doesn’t mean we can go into next season with Brown as our starting RT. That would be a major mistake imo. As was starting him yesterday. I think Quessenberry was better than Brown this season.
-
Sorry, sarcasm detector is turned off this morning. yes, I think he deserves another year. If he’s fired, so be it. Let’s hope we don’t screw it up. I’m just not a huge fan of the candidates. Payton makes sense….but we’ll have to give up a 1st rd pick and likely pay him 20M a year.

💯 the thing is, does McD have it in him to fire Dorsey after his rookie OC season? I don’t think he will.
-
because I think McD is a great leader of men and he should focus on leading the being the HC. Hire 2 coordinators capable of devising their own game plans.
-
I’d be happy if Frazier and Dorsey were fired if we hired Fangio and Reich. I’d be pissed if we fired Frazier and Dorsey and hired Donatell and HACKett. I think both can be upgraded. The question is, who do we upgrade with. Don’t fire them unless we have suitable replacements in mind. I think McD deserves another year. I think Beane deserves another year at least.

i don’t think that’s the only way it works. it would’ve worked if he didn’t suck and we would’ve won the Super Bowl. If he didn’t suck, we may have kept him next year. Turns out, he sucked and we didn’t win the SB and we can’t bring him back next year. it didn’t work doubly because, as you said, they didn’t do enough to get guys in here to learn the system. Maybe they thought Ike had a chance? Idk….. but what they did regarding the OL failed and it was under a microscope because the key investments on D this past offseason didn’t even play yesterday and those that did were meh.

They overrated Saffold. They thought they were getting a one year fix @ LG. They thought wrong. Brown was drafted to be our RT. He’s 6’8 and has back problems. They were hoping he’d be a solid RT. They were wrong. Bates looked to be an emerging starter. We retained him. He was below average. Morse and Dawkins are solid starters. Neither are great. 2 poor players- 1 below average player and 2 solid starters + a rookie OC that doesn’t really seem to have a plan = going home early. so now what? Get a legit LG and RT. Let brown be our swing tackle. Might have to replace Morse too. Beane has his work cut out for him. Drafting OL doesn’t seem to be something our FO does well and we don’t have much $ until we start mortgaging the future.

Saffold said guys were "exhausted" this week and "out of gas"

It looked as if this was part of our problem yesterday. -
2023 Offseason Primer: State of the Franchise
NewEra replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is big and could be key in retaining McD. Is he willing to give up some control of the D and focus more on being the HC. But that doesn’t really come into play unless the powers that rule him put him in position to make that decision. I don’t think they will. I feel they will keep the coaches they have and give it one last chance. If we don’t win next year, we’ll blow it up. Personally, that’s not what I want. I want Frazier gone. I’d be happy if Dorsey were fired but understand if they want to keep him. He’s still learning how to be an OC, which is even more difficult when you’re favored to win the Super Bowl. He failed us yesterday and I do think Josh has regressed (mentally) under his tutelage. I love his gunslinger mentality but he needs to know when to take the easy play and when to take the shot. His decision making has regressed…..not so much his play. That’s the question. We’ll find out soon -
Trade Diggs for assets and go to a more controlled ground game.

Great and pretty brutal assessment of Bills’ talent by Chris Simms
NewEra replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
A guy doesn’t have to be Chris Jones in order to be severely missed. Jones was one of the most consistent performers on our team all season. He was sorely missed yesterday. Losing complimentary prices can have a negative impact on the sum. It did yesterday. I don’t think there’s any doubt about it. that said- simms is right about the offense. Beck Water is also right about Jones (and losing von). -
Tell us that you don’t know much about a player without telling us you don’t know much about him. The bolded does just that. Cook has done the majority of his damage up the middle. 👍🏻

I’d keep McD Fire Frazier and Dorsey. Hire Fangio @ DC Hire Reich @ OC Yes, I realize that will never happen. Ben Johnson is intriguing. I don’t know anything about the guy other than he called a great offense this year behind one of the best OLs in the league. Can he lead a team? Or is he Norv Turner v230584.0
-
The gas tank was empty. The whole team was running on fumes. Especially 17. He had nothing left to give
-
It’s crazy how our opponents can completely take him out of the game and we have no answer. the last 3 season ending losses, Diggs was made a non factor. Daboll made the chiefs pay last year because Davis and Allen were unconscious. Dorsey had no answer. I thought the game was over when Davis dropped yet another pats that hit him perfectly in stride. You’re a good kid and I’m sure you’ll be in the gym today working your tail off for next season….. but you should be coming off the bench next year. May have been his worst game as a Bill
-
Huge loss, no doubt. I didn’t mention him because the OP talked about the 3 injuries to the bengals OL and 2 injuries to the Bills DL ….and said it should have been advantage Bills. I disagreed with that point. We lost our 2 biggest offseason investments that were supposed to fix our D. The D that we fielded yesterday was worse than the d in last years final game. von replaced Jerry and von didn’t play Jones replaced Harry and Jones didn’t play marlowe/Johnson replaced Hyde the only plus would be having Tre back over Levi. We couldn’t overcome the injuries….especially with the game plan Leslie put together
-
This is the only other point I would make. The bengals were missing 3 OL. 2 of which were bad all season (Williams and Collins). It’s not like the bengals were missing good OT play. They replaced bad with bad. Cappa was their best OL so we was a loss. we lost and all pro pass rusher and maybe the best player on our D in Von. We lost our only good NT and stalwart on our D in Jones. We lost very good/great DL play and replaced it with bad dL play. Phillips was useless with 1/2 a shoulder, Settle was exhausted. AJ does the same thing on every play and could be the worst player on the team. Basham got bashed. Shaq is a 1M DE and played like it the injuries had a much larger effect on our D than they did the bengals O
-
Great post. Agree with everything said. what should’ve been included is Frazier and his fear of getting beat deep. It was obvious the bengals were working the short game and we let them have it all game. 2 yard pass and 4-10 yards RAC all day. That’s the game I was hoping to see out of us. instead- James Cook 0 targets. Again. 😖

I’m over this defensive scheme. Bring in a new DC.

Word up. Thanks for being a class act Leslie. Exit stage right. Dorsey….. you can join him. Agreed. -
Coaching Staff & Other Thoughts On Falling Short in 2022
NewEra replied to pocoboy's topic in The Stadium Wall
The top 3 things are all the same thing imo. Investing heavily in the defensive usually backfires when you lose you 2 all pros and very good NT, while sticking with the same tired DC. If healthy, I thought our d was good enough. I’ve never been a fan of Frazier One thing we know for sure- if our defense is terrible, we won’t win a Super Bowl. Beane has to find the middle ground of investing in both the O and D so both can become SB caliber working together. That’s hard to do when we miss on so many 2nd and :rd rd picks. We counted on AJ, Boogie, Spencer brown, Cody Ford, Moss, cool and Bernard to become integral pieces to the puzzle. Instead, they were all bums (minus cook, who had zero targets again). The draft isn’t a science, but the lack of production from those players has brought our talent level down. I don’t think Beane should get the axe. If he did, id be upset, but the draft pick failures have directly hurt our team I don’t think mcdermott should get the axe….. but if they went after Sean Payton, I can understand why. I think he’s a bit overrated myself, but watching Josh’s season unfold, he needs more help than just on the OL and WRs. His QB mind has to be put back on track. It’s off the rails right now. If we fire McD and don’t hire Payton.,,, who should we hire? I’d be happy if Frazier were fired. I never liked his scheme or lack of aggressiveness. He’s a class act and I’m not sure if McD will move on from him….which could lead to McDs dismissal. Give me Fangio. I’d be very happy if Dorsey were fired. The term “No identity” has been used ad nauseam this year., for good reason. Dorsey himself has no identity. He was a rookie play caller leading the Super Bowl and MVP favorites. He let both down in a big way. Josh bailed him out the last couple months but it was too much to overcome yesterday.. Give me Frank Reich. McDermott Reich Fangio i won’t hold my breath. -

Franchise in trouble- Josh Allen has regressed
NewEra replied to RoscoeParrish's topic in The Stadium Wall
Looks to me like Josh has OL PTSD For good reason. -
included in the 1M texts I received from non Bills fan friends during and after the game were several texts saying that we looked exhausted physically and mentally. They’ve been through the wringer over the last month. That said, someone(s) has to take accountability for the game plan on both sides of the balls. The coaches were dominated.

And if you spend it on players that are hurt, you’ll still suck
