  1. Taking Smith from them would do that.
  2. As we all know the problem is finding that allusive QB in the draft and if you're not high enough - what's it going to cost? You then have to unload some serious picks and pray that he's the guy. If he is, drafting and player acquisition gets a heck of a lot easier. I just want us to get lucky and have one soon. Until then I'll root for the team to do well but with that thought constantly in my head. I'll hope Peterman is our guy until proven otherwise.
  3. They could have afforded him but they chose not to. I'm not saying that's right or wrong but it's what they decided.
  4. I think culture is important and all coaches go after it - albeit in different ways but they all know how necessary it is. The issue is that culture is only sustained from winning. An example of this was the last several episodes of "All Or Nothing" on amazon with the Rams. Fisher and his staff tried everything to keep these guys up after starting 3-1. It was depressing watching that team slide mentally. Culture will come if this coaching staff gets the players to reasonably believe in what their doing now, they game plan well and then they have to win.
  5. You don't see Owens in that same conversation with Moss - for almost the same reasons? Their stats are nearly identical and I'd put Owens in that physical freak category too.
  6. I wouldn't disagree. I think that's one of the real factors in the "potential" column I mentioned above. I think he'll face a similar situation with Goff whom I don't think elevates Sammy into the 1,300-1,600 yd range - hence I believe he'll get paid on what he's capable of doing. Of course I could be wrong but I don't think Goff or their offense is there yet.
  7. If you saw him play it's hard to pick anyone other than Jerry Rice. I'll just list some guys I liked watching over the years. Largent Monk Bruce/Holt Brown Fitz Reed Ocho Mason Jeffires
  8. I thought it was explained connecting the post I responded to. Understand I'm not happy we don't have Watkins and I would have liked to ink him to a long term contract. I'm just merely pointing out that two realities exist. One is a player posts the numbers and gets paid accordingly ie Antonio Brown - Two is a player posts good numbers but other factors are considered and they get paid potential. In Sammy's case, picking up his 5th year option would have been on potential and I think it's likely his next contract will as well. All I'm saying is that Beane was not going to do that - so he attempted to mitigate the loss of Sammy with Matthews and the 2nd Rd pick was enough to cement the deal(s).
  9. I agree with this and the secondary issue that comes along with that is a team will have to pay him on that said potential instead of results. Sammy will most likely get $13-15 mil per year and that's obviously not something the Bills saw themselves doing.
  10. Change your mind, the show is fantastic
  11. That really stinks for a young man that I think will be really good. When this happens to players on other teams, it doesn't matter, I still hate it for them (obviously outside of rivals). Some posters here immediately turn on our player and team - which will always be crazy to me.
  12. The problem with ever taking you seriously is your incessant negativity - especially when talking about what hasn't happened. When you get called out on it you fall back on the past. You hate when anyone is hopeful and your undying crusade to debate every single thing to the contrary is boring. Every single team is thin at certain positions. They all then make decisions based on availability of players, draft picks and economics to mitigate the lack of depth. We're no different and we come here to talk about what possible scenarios there are for players to fill those voids. You just say it's not happening and you're all blind to the truth. We get you - there's no need to keep regurgitating your BS. Read this ScottLaw - it's you man
  13. Of course that's not the reason he can't be a backup. It's because he didn't stand for the anthem. That's the risk you take when making a rightful stance - sometimes there's consequences. I mean surely he didn't expect both. We should blame the 49ers - he was under contract with those fantastical TD to INT numbers.
  14. Had to look that one up but I got you now. Nice work!
  15. God I loved that show growing up.
  16. Just finished watching the "All Or Nothing" of the Rams on Amazon last night. What a great job they do of humanizing the players and delivering that perspective.
  17. Prime example of why ESPN is on the decline.
  18. I understand what you're saying, really I do. However at some point you have to surround a QB with better options - especially when your QB isn't great and has trouble seeing the middle. I get that it could just be Tyrod totally sucks but we don't know. When you roll out 8 games of Sammy, Woods, Goodwin, Hunter, Powell and Tate - that's just not going to do it. Our leading yds leader had 51/613 in Woods - that's just pitiful. Boldin would be a significant signing. Zay and Holmes have to be good. You need all that and McCoy and Clay to do what they're capable of. I just don't get how we put this all on TT - he's not the type of QB that can overcome the lack of viable NFL WR's we've given him. Take away some of the "if's" and then I want to see what he's got.
  19. I don't see Boldin and Holmes as redundant because as you suggest receivers move around. Also you need 4 receivers not including TE's to contribute. With Boldin I would expect those 4 to be Sammy, Boldin, Holmes and Zay. I think Boldin takes huge pressure off of Holmes and in 4 WR sets they should benefit from each other and create issues for the defense. For so long Buffalo just isn't used to a QB throwing for 3,500-4,000 yds - and I'd argue we just have not had the talent at WR to accomplish that despite of how someone feels about our QB's. Maclin would have been huge and I hope he just didn't pick us vs not wanting to pay the money. Boldin is a very nice consolation prize this late and IMO should not be in the discussion of hindering any other receiver. Again, I think it's just because we haven't seen a passing attack in so long we don't know how to embrace it - we see it as cluttering the position and not letting young or FA options prosper. To pass you need 3 viable WR options, one that contributes in key moments, a TE and a RB that catches.
  20. I agree. Typically a middle of the league team isn't a rebuild. The thought is a new coaching staff tries to take them over the hump.
  21. Boldin would most likely be the slot guy. Zay would need to earn time on the outside.
  22. This post sums up what anyone would need to know about you.
