Thought processes by people here I don't understand
ganesh replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Completely agree. Some of the folks on the board make it appear that Wilson was making decisions on his own without any input or consultation from Nix and Russ Brandon. In my opinion, the only thing that is changed is the ability for Russ to make a quick decision on something before having to run it by Mr. Wilson. -
These 3-5 years in waiting don't grow on trees...If they were so good, they would have already started for their current team. Your FA/Trade options may be Alex Smith or Flynn.
-
The Bengals received 2 1st rounders for the rights to Carson Palmer...Another asinine trade by the Raiders.
-
Jimmy Johnson (With the Dolphins), though sucking is a pretty strong term for his tenure. Shanahan was going to be a bust at DC before RGIII/Morris bailed him out

Bills opening ranked 4th best opportunity

The original point was whether you would take a HC job in Buffalo or stay back as a OC or DC in your current location. In that context, the point is relevant. -
Russ Brandon is cheap... Cost Cutting....Littman and Overdorf control the Bills

Josh McDaniels - Head Coach - get it done

How so. The Broncos went to the playoffs right the next year and are the #1 seed this year. Add Mangini to the list. The one person who is having success is the Atlanta GM. But then they do have a Franchise QB. -
There is no published information anywhere to indicate that Chan did not have his players respect. The only time I saw any discontent was SJ mouthing off after the play call to throw to TJ Graham against the Patriots and he apologized later.

If Lovie can bring in a strong OC/DC like Norv Turner and Marinelli, I think that would be the best thing to happen to the Bills.

If I'm a HC candidate and I look at the Bills, what do I see?

This! Our special teams have been pedantic under DeHaven except for Carrington's 5 blocks. I really question the Veteran Leadership. Other than Eric Wood there is none who is vocal. The "team" leaders are Bart Scott and George Wilson who would not be starters on 31 other teams in this league and Merriman is done and not coming back. This team needs leadership at the QB position and LB position. -
Per CBSSports, Bills coaching candidate names emerging...

I don't think not drafting a QB cost Gailey (or Nix post 2013 draft) a job. The win-loss record in three years and a lack of progress towards making the playoffs cost them their jobs. I can't agree anymore with this statement. Buddy is part of this failed 3-year experiment. What good is going to come by keeping him around. It also sends wrong signals to the incoming HC. Are they going to be scared off with the lack of clarity at the GM position. Buddy has done well with hiring talent for the DL and getting some good FA and Waiver wire pick ups. However, he has missed on far too many top picks in three years to continue with him -

Completely Agree... Here is the timeline on QBs in the Nix/Chan Era. 2010 - Starts with Trent Edwards/Fitzpatrick in training camp. Names Edwards as starter and then pulls the plug after 3 games and makes Fitz starter. Fitz fizzles after a few good games. Signs Thigpen 2011 - Starts with Fitz and goes 5-1 against weak teams (except for the win against NE) and hands a 60M contract to Fitz. Comes down crashing rest of the year, winning just one more game 2012 - Struggled through the season making bad decisions at critical times. Had Vince Young in camp and cut him. Traded for Tavaris, but did not suit him up. There were good signs that Gailey was not successful with his QB choices. All the more for drafting potential franchise QBs in the draft. -
Was that more of the Denver Defense being very good ? Just asking.
-
Romo doesn't play defense.
-
Shanahan needs both a good RB and QB to win. He had Elway/Davis and now RGII/Morris. Though give credit to him for making it work. Norv Turner could not make Rivers/Mathews tandem work.

Marc Trestman was fired too (in the past).

Bills opening ranked 4th best opportunity

There are seven openings as a HC for an NFL team. With at least 30+ suitors, I doubt the coaches are looking at all these aspects. The real key is talent and/or ability to procure talent. If the coaches don't feel they can win with the talent on the team, they will take themselves out of the running. I think the Bills are in a better position right now than they were 3 years ago. The NFL dream is short lived. If you are a hot Coordinator and a possibility for a HC job, you are going to take it, because you may not get that chance again. -
6 of the 7 Teams picking ahead of us need a QB

It was strange to see Fitzpatrick throw deep on the sideline to SJ. -
The Tomlin situation is a little more unique. Tomlin was made the HC of the Steelers just a year removed from their Super bowl win. They had the #1 defense and a franchise QB and in his six seasons had continued to have that same core group of players. Tomlin running the bills would have been not much different from our current success. Tomlin and his personnel department have had poor drafts in the recent past and the steelers are slowly losing their depth/edge. The only reason they were even in playoff contention is that they have a never-say-never franchise QB who can make great plays instead of a horrible OL.

Andy Reid next HC? (update: may go to Cardinals)
ganesh replied to Mini Max Anderson Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
:wallbash: Good coaches are hard to find in the NFL. I would rather than an Andy Reid than a retread like Chan Gailey any day. -

The main issue with Nix (on this board) is that he did not pick and groom a QB in his three seasons and that is a big mistake considering that the QB position is the most important piece of the puzzle. Posters simply point out that Nix had the chance to pick a good QB to be groomed and missed at each point (Kaepernick for Aaron Williams, Wilson for TJ, Cousins etc). Without a young QB in waiting, Nix put all his eggs in the Fitzpatrick basket and it backfired on him. Gems at other positions are good (all teams find those gems in the later rounds), but unlike successful GMs around the league, he did not address the QB situation in three years. -
The offense was OK in the 1st half of the season and stunk up the joint in the 2nd half with horrible plays against Ten/Indy/St. Louis/Miami games that we could have won with better offense. The defense adjusted in the 2nd half of the season, tightening up the run before giving up in the last three games again. The Special Teams was good in the 1st half, but pedestrian in the 2nd half. Overall, the team could not put together a game where all units were good at the same time on a consistent basis. And that solely reflects on the weakness of the HC and his coordinators. The Bills gave up 23 Rushing TDs, worst in the league.
