Mid season Report • EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR: Buddy Nix, Buffalo general manager: Nix hired Chan Gailey last year, drafted defensive tackle Marcell Dareus this year, and has built a talented offense around lightly regarded players such as quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, running back Fred Jackson, receiver Stevie Johnson, tight end Scott Chandler and receiver David Nelson. The Bills have responded with a breakthrough season so far, and are 5-2 and tied with New England for first in the AFC East. -- Kudos to Ted Thompson, Green Bay general manager.

Bill, I just don't see Spiller getting enough carries. I think it will be a big surprise if they can do a couple of reverses and putting him in space to have big gains after a quick catch. And if they have to cover Spiller, then there will be a mismatch for either Nelson or Chandler (or even for Roosvelt) that they can use to their advantage. I am hoping Spiller has a breakout game.

Fred Jackson getting deal done?

If we have CAP money this year, why shouldn't we spend this year and reduce the cap hit next year. It is not like SJ is going anywhere anytime soon. He is our #1 WR. The one thing hurting him may be his product the past 3-4 weeks..But then the Bills have been playing teams with a fierce pass rush and Fitz having to get rid of the ball quickly and the absence of Jones on the other side hurts too. -
Brad Smith - Are we using him correctly?
ganesh replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The simple answer is that "May be we haven't needed him so much as Freddie and Fitz have been having great success". May be he can surprise the teams that are not looking for him. -
I disagree SJBF...Sanchez has taken his team to two AFC Championships and has played outstanding in the playoffs. It is not his fault that the Jets let go of Thomas Jones who had a great year running the ball. It is not his fault that the Jets have messed up the OL after building a great one. Sanchez is one of the stars in the making. All I said about McCoy is that he has done a good job of not hurting his team. Again, the Browns don't have much talent, turmoil @ the RB position and a suspect HC. In spite of that McCoy has looked like a good QB. Give him time and he will win consistently. A McCoy is doing much better than a Josh Beck (Washington), Kevin Kolb (Arizona), Name-Your-QB (Seattle), McNabb (Minnesota), Cutler(Chicago),

Agreed 100%. Coming out of that draft, Dalton was considered by most folks as the most complete, NFL Ready QB and he has done nothing to obliterate that thought. He is a very heady QB who makes good decisions. His play and the Bengals defense reminds of the rookie year for Ben Rothelisberger. Big Ben was asked to be a team manager and not make critical mistakes. He took them to the AFC Championship game that year and the Super Bowl next year. I see Andy coming up in the same mold. It is really scary that the AFC North will have four good to great QBs for years to come. Even Colt McCoy is quietly putting together a pretty strong season. There are plenty of good QBs now in the AFC AFC East: Brady, Fitz, Sanchez AFC North: Ben, Flacco, Dalton, McCoy AFC South: Manning, Schaub, Hasselbeck AFC West : Cassel, Palmer, Rivers The NFC...Not so much. The AFC is going to continue to be a slug feast for the next few years making it hard to get in through the wild card route.

I will take the 4-5 yard slants every day, if it gives us 1st downs and move the chains...Something that we were very inept with Lee Evans in the line up. Lee is a very good player, but just did not fit this offense. He will be very good in an offense where the OL gives the QB lots of time to throw or has a very mobile QB who can use his feet and make plays down field. I hope that trade works for both the parties. Also, not having such a towering figure as Lee Evans allows the QB to distribute the passes to all his WRs without worrying to find his primary target all the time. Only teams that have mobile QBs who can use their feet to make the plays are throwing the big bombs...Teams like the Eagles, the Steelers and the Falcons.

In some sense, he is correct w.r.t the Bills. We still have 5 divisional games and those are always very hard and very tough to predict. We have a 3-game road trip with two tough games against the Chargers and Jets. Then we have the stretch @ home in December, where we have played very poorly in the past so many years. The Bill are not going to have a easy schedule.
-
Actually, Fred Davis is their starting TE and if they ever lost him, that would be more hurtful than the past-his-prime Cooley. Tim Hightower, while called starting RB, actually shared duties with Ryan Torain/ We lost our starting LT, backup LT, starting NT, starting OLB....I think our injuries were far more serious than theirs. What happened is that on the field, the Bills played much better than the Redskins.

Eric Wood is the heart and soul of this OL.
-
Even Donahoe had a pretty good rookie draft getting Schoebel, Henry as starters.
-
Damn...I have Ernst Graham and Tim Hightower as my Running Backs in FFL...It really sucks that both are out for the year....and waiver wire cupboard is bare and thin.

George Edwards' Job Security (Chris Brown)
ganesh replied to Sniper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or give Chan Gailey the guts to go to Wannestedts office and have him create a blueprint for creating some semblance of a pass rush. Edwards is just plain mediocre and it is starting to impact the W-L columns in the wrong way. -
It is an interesting fact that Cowher's only super bowl win is with Big Ben behind Center. It is also a coincidence that Dick LeBeau joined as the DC the same year Ben was drafted. We lost out on both counts.

Parcells too with the Giants and the Patriots and very close with the Jets (AFC Championship game).

All Time Underappreciated Bills

He could have been our version of Wes Welker. -
That is actually a myth: The Bills are 29th against the Run, giving up 135.7 Yards per game and a mere 6 yards behind the 30th ranked Colts and 30th against the pass giving up 284 yards per game. The Bills currently can neither stop the Run nor the Pass and it is actually getting worse as the games have progressed... Here are some other interesting facts: The Bills are 4/4 on 4th Down defense. The Bills have a total of 7 sacks in 6 games. The Bills have allowed 8 Rushing TD and 10 Passing TDs. Bottom line is that this front 7 PLAY is still very weak and with Kyle Williams out, it has depleted further. With Fitz cooling down in the last 3 games, our offense has not been able to carry the team and hence the 1-2 record in the last 3 games. I don't think this team is devoid of talent. Edwards needs to go...He is over matched every week. His schemes are pretty poor. Other than the week 1 opponent, his schemes not been successful against the other 5 opponents. His results speaks for themselves.

We need a Pass Rusher

I think we win at least 4 more games ....
ganesh replied to Thirdborn's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sort of like how Eric Wood is dominating on our OL...Him moving to the center was the best thing to happen for this line...And I am glad to see that he has fully recovered from that gruesome injury. Eric Wood is my MVP of the team closely followed by Action Jackson. Division games are far harder and the teams can play up to each other. The Fish and the Jets will compete with us and have every chance of winning those games. -
Is it just me or does the playcalling seem misguided
ganesh replied to Since 1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The last two weeks this team has played opponents with a fierce pass rush or high percentage of blitzing...The team was forced to take 3 step drops and make the quick throws. -
Maybin has 0.5 less sacks than our entire team
ganesh replied to deep2evans's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
May be there is a genuine problem with the coaching staff of this defense. Edwards has been horrible in his 22 games as DC. -
Yup... Fitz had two back-to-back sacks that forced us out of FG range. His two INTs hurt us. The Giants tackled better than us, made a few more plays than us and protected the football and came out victors. Congrats to them for a well deserved win.
-
Agreed 100%. The offense blew this game away. The Giants were able to provide protection for Manning to throw and he threw mid-range to deep and they were successful. You cannot do much about that when there is no pressure on the QB. Florence was in a tough spot. Those guys are faster than him and without pressure on Manning, you cannot hold your side.
