I am convinced Buffalo had its best draft in 25 years
ganesh replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Bills did the best by picking the best player on the board and not reaching for a need (OT ?). Also, I hope the Bills coaching staff will put the best 11 players on the field. If Byrd needs playing time and Whitner is better than Bart Scott, then Whitner moves back to SS while Byrd will play FS. Also, is it possible that Byrd may stick to being a corner back or does he lack speed ? -
Actually I don't. JP is a professional and is expected to carry himself amidst what was happening in Buffalo. He gets paid big bucks for that. He did have a QB coach who was with him for his entire two seasons to learn the offense and work in that system and yet he failed other than throwing bombs to Lee Evans...In today's NFL you win by the Short game and JP could never master that.

Tim Graham defends the Patriots claim to

Actually, that honor goes truly to the Pittsburgh Steelers...They have a following nationwide and have won 2 super bowls, albeit without getting caught for cheating (Unlike the Patriots). A truly blue-collar team and should be the true Americas Team. -
Well put....I think there was just too much going on behind-the-scenes for this to have happened. Your hypothesis with regards to Dockery not challenging his team player(s) for both their on the field and off the field acts seem to have put the last nail down. I mean Dockery is not that bad a player and with the Bills hoping for continuity would have felt no hurry to get rid of 3 players from the line. They could have negotiated with Dockery for a pay cut or reduction in the roster bonus if they wanted. Sometime players do want to stay where they are and are willing to take the cut to help the team (Or may be they approached and he refused). The bottom line is the Bills have failed to solve their OL woes for the last 10 years...the same 10 years they have yet to make the playoffs. The QBs have suffered through the same period...Unfortunatley for the Bills, they have tried and FAILED.

All that will work, only if the 5 guys in front of Edwards give him enough time to make the throw.

Good point...But that is where the biggest problem lies....Our coaching staff's inability to put your best players on the field to make the plays for the team....No wonder, we have been short of great plays on the defense for the last three years while the likes of Sanders, Polamalu and Reed are asked to play the ball.

2 things you don't like about the Bills as of right now...

Coaching.... - In 3 years, this staff has failed to mold an identity for the team. I don't like that we have not been to the playoffs for 10 seasons. What I like: The young nucleus of the team...They have potential to be a competitive team. They need to demolish their demons of the past. The attitude of the players that we drafted this season. What is a Question Mark ? The OL - There is too much flux. While we have picked good and motivated players, it will take time for them to Gel together. What to look forward: Of course the new season...Every new day brings in Hope on the horizon....It is no different with my beloved bills....In our case hope spring, further hope...:-) -
That line got me thinking especially in the context of the Whitner, Byrd, Scott thread.... IF the bills were to put their best 11 players on the defense on the field, who would that be.... (Based on proven ability and potential).

Fox seems to think that our QB group ranks 12th in the NFL....

Fox and "Fair and Balanced" -
Just like anything he is somewhere in between... The real test for Goddell will come when the labor negotiation begins...That is where Tagliabue made his legacy....and became popular....If Goddell can avoid labor strike and play in 2010 and beyond, he will be thought of in the same way as his prior commissioners...All the other stuff is usually forgotten. Any comissioner would have punished Pacman Jones, Brandon Marshall, Lynch and will punish plaxico etc.

Three way trade rumor?

Championship teams are built from inside to outside in the trenches...Casey Hampton, Vince Wilfork are Super bowl DTs that come to mind. Get Er done Russ. -
They forgot that the Bills have a 3rd round pick Ellis riding the pine who also could rush the passer....I hope Ellis blossoms this year, then may be we cut loose Kelsay and Denney next season.

I would like to start with a win over the Patriots....That will set the tone for this franchise this season.

May be he meant First-things-first.....One at a time....Give the guy a break.

Chris Collingsworth is an upcoming star in the play-by-play arena and to a smaller extent Sterling Sharpe is starting to make a few heads turn.

There are a lot of "IFs" with other teams too. You say the Jets D will be top 5....On what basis...There is a big IF if Rex Ryan can transform from a DC to a good HC that can bring the same defense from Baltimore to Jets. Romeo Crennel could not translate it from NE to Cleveland. There is a big IF for the Patriots defense to have some of the new CBs and Safeties to Pan out. Every year in the NFL is different since teams play drastically different schedules every year and see different types of teams.... Just 2 seasons ago, the Bills went 4-2 in the division sweeping both Miami and the Jets and yet went 0-6 the next year losing to both the Jets and Fish. If you go back to the scoreboard in those seasons, the bills wins were by narrow margins and so where their losses. THey could have easily beaten the Jets twice last year if not for stupid decisions on the field. They were leading 16-8 against the DOlphins on the Road in the 3rd qtr before self destructing.... I am optimistic about the BIlls every year....Lets go Bills.

Sorry I completely forgot about him....Though he already had 5 years of his career in the 90s....Still better than Travis... I used Henry only because he went on to have a good couple of seasons with the Titans too.

Playing NE 1st game gives us best shot of beating them

I don't think Bellichek needs to set the blue print for stopping Turk. Turk has done nothing in the league to be called a offensive genius yet.
