I am sure for every Shady, Hughes trade, there is an equivalent trade where the player has gone on to be a bust for the new team.

Who will be shipped out next?
ganesh replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Shady is our proven best player on the team. He is not going anywhere. -
This Thursdays game will be interesting for Tyrod

And that is ok (I think) This offense did reasonably well in spite of injuries to so many players last season. What let us down last year was the melting of the Defense. We have lost the entire secondary from that defense and replaced a 3-4 with a 4-3 that is more natural for Hughes and Lawson. If Preston brown can play like he did 3 seasons ago, this defense could help this offense. Boldin probably already knows the system having played in this system at Baltimore -
Because that is the nature of the Small Market Team The only way they can entice someone to play for you is a) Promising a Starting Job to a backup B) Paying the highest salary at a position to a player who is not a top-3 Unless the small market team can hit it with their own draft picks they will always struggle. Small market teams have been good when their drafts worked out, our own beloved Bills included.

Beane & McD Press Conferences
ganesh replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley made trades that gave away draft picks. Beane is making trades that is collecting draft picks. Two different approaches...wouldn't you agree? I think the front-office looks at the difference in production between Mathews vs Watkins and Darby vs Giles and have determined that the difference is not that big but getting those draft picks is a lot more important and pulled the trigger. They could soon unload Eric Wood, Cordy Glenn and Hughes if they don't produce this season. I simply don't see Eric Wood getting his final contract with the Buffalo Bills. -
Tyrod is the starting QB and we are into the 3rd week of training camp. I don't see how he could be traded. Unless the Bills think Yates can run the offense for the year, I don't see it.

Anyone else afraid of next years draft?
ganesh replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah...49ers could finish in top 3 and still get their QB from the nation's capital. -
When positions are open on the team and fringe players want to make the roster, they are going to give all out to make a play spectacular that will help them get a roster spot. And when they don't make the play and get caught, they will also have a 1-way ticket out of the locker room.

THe Watkins one is hurting only because what we paid initially to get him. The problem with Watkins is that for a guy coming in as a #4 overall, he has done very little for this team. At the end performance and results speaks for themselves with this regime. I hope they will be able to hold everyone equally as responsible as they held Watkins and Darby. This goes for Dareus, Wood, Glenn, and Hughes. I think Kevin will have a big role on this team

Building through the draft. Finding players that can fit your schemes/coaching. No one is bigger than the game. -

Michael Lombardi - Fascinating Interview Today
ganesh replied to Alaska Darin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When you WIN everything is pushed under the carpet. Look at Pete in Seattle...He was struggling his first few years...QBs did not work...THen he gets a gift in Lynch via trade and Wilson in the draft in the 3rd round...and Suddenly they are World Champions...I am sure Pete did not change "His culture" suddenly. The same goes with Belichek...With Bledsoe he had a losing season and was starting 0-3 before the injury....Suddenly Brady comes off the bench and sparks them to victories.... The margin of error between franchises in the NFL is rather razor thin. You can flip to either side very fast. -

What the article fails to articulate is the meaning of "failed culture" and "successful culture". This is like making a claim but not backing it up. Everyone knows that these teams are bad, but there is no clear articulation of why they are bad. A "failed culture" is a cop out IMHO. The margin between wins and losses in the NFL is razor thin. Detail oriented coaches like Belliched have figured out the nitty gritty details and work on it. In the end, it is those minute details that changes course. The Falcons were up by 20 points in the 2nd half of a Super Bowl, but the team on the opposite sideline still believed in themselves and chipped away. There are too many things than "failed culture" that determine the success of a franchise. -
I think McDermott has a good plan for QB. s 1. Start with Tyrod. Tyrod will get TC + 8 games. If he succeeds, then it will be a successful season 2. If TT flops, then Nate get his shot this year plus some next year 3. The Bills have two 1st round picks and if TT flops, it might be a top 10 pick Plus the KC pick. We probably have a good shot to get into the top-3 to get a franchise QB. And then the Bills have two seasons to figure out if it will be TT, Nate or a Drafted QB. Of course, if Tyrod or Nate pan out then we will be using those 2 1st rounders on a stud WR and a Defensive End.

Pegulas right not to fire Jim Overdorf

A lot of FA is dependent on the incumbent coaching staff and the salary cap situation at that moment. Pat Williams was deemed "Fat" by Greg Williams and did not want to sign because his style was not a 3-4 and he did not need a Nose Tackle. Byrd wanted to play either for a championship team or for a team coached by his dad. Poz was deemed unfit for the 3-4 to be run by Gailey...The same with Fletcher...he did not fit Jauron's style. The same happened even in the draft.. The same happened, when Dick Jauron picked a CB instead of Haloti Ngata. We picked Spiller even though we had Lynch and Jackson on the team because Gailey wanted a Waterbug Running Back. The Bills do have cap heavy contracts for McCoy, Dareus, Cordy Glenn, Hughes, Wood, Clay. They were also paying a 14M contract for Gilmore last year. And they were paying bloated contracts for players who are injured or overrated like Aaron Williams. Corey Williams. It goes back to not being stable at the coaching situation. A stable coaching staff means same coaching style, which means same style of players in the locker room. -

What about Russ. He has done a wonderful job selling tickets in spite of a mediocre performance -
PFF: The Unstoppable Run Schemes of the Buffalo Bills
ganesh replied to Big C's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Our Defense sucked last year...That is the main worry for this team. Tyrod is a servicable QB and with that kind of Running game, if the defense kept its side of the bargain, we would have won more games. -
Turnover on this team is staggering.

Plus we had some significant injuries to starters forcing us to sign a lot of street FAs....Now neither those injured starers nor the street FAs are around. -
Is Rashad Ross better than Justin Hunter who caught 3 TD passes last year...Unfortunately Hunter signed a FA contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
-
Yeah...but we went two years without the playoffs with Bledsoe.. It was not as if Bledsoe was going to take us to the promised land.

+1. He had a great career with the Vikings....The other one would be London Fletcher.
