He was a far, far worse GM than most people realize. The fans that blame his firing on Rex and claim he fielded a great roster don't understand how to build a team past what's required for their fantasy leagues. He wasn't "saddled" with a poor QB situation, he was a part of it and didn't know how to remedy it. Doug Whaley was a king in the eyes of the myopic fan that craves instant gratification -- those who can only see as far as next month.

Probably best to just stay inside and curl up into the fetal position until next season.

You give Rex $27.5M GTD and he will be "all in" (whatever that actually means) with any team, in any city, in any sport. You've been had.

He didn't embrace Buffalo, he embraced Terry's paycheck. As soon as he was fired the stickers came off the truck. He doesn't care about Cookie or Putulski, and he's not going to be stopping into town to grab wings and enjoy the culture. In fact, he'll likely never set foot near WNY again unless forced -- con artists don't return to the scene of the crime.

I remember getting blown out at home by the Pats and seeing Rex on TV at the Cubs game the next day. To say his heart wasn't in it is being kind. The guy was basically a con artist. He assembled the largest coaching staff in the league (two DB coaches, seriously?) comprised of all of his old friends and family on the Pegula's dime. One last paycheck before retirement, and he pulled it off.

Man, if only we still had Tyrod. We would be 3-6 right now and sittin' pretty!

This is a fantastic post, but you are addressing a segment of our fan base that wears very thick rose-colored glasses and simply doesn't understand the ramifications of bad contracts. How else can you explain their lament for a guy like Dareus, who hasn't done a thing in 4.5 years (yes, it's been that long) and whose only motivation is to party on Allen Street until the sun comes up? Also, Beane wasn't even part of the organization for many of these moves (Woods, Goodwin, 2017 draft, etc) which makes their vitriol even more bizarre. A blind mob attacks indiscriminately.

It's similar to dealing with a toddler -- you wait until the kicking and screaming stops before you attempt a conversation. I'm guessing your Chicken Little act will continue well into 2019.
