Everyone at the top of the draft is a can't-miss, until of course, they miss.

BILLS Dead-Cap $ in '19 will AffectTrades & Vet Cuts
QCity replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just want to point out that 5th-year options are only guaranteed for injury (which is certainly a risk). As long as a player is healthy they can be cut without any financial penalty to the team (Well, aside from the fact that they will get nothing in return). The 5th-year money doesn't become guaranteed until the league year begins. -
Whaley worked on that trade with Dorsey for weeks.

Did we land a top 5 GM in Beane?
QCity replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Spending money in free agency doesn't make you a great GM. -
No such thing.

We have the "Offended by Vegas predictions" thread every year. If you were outraged by last season's low win prediction and made a wager, you lost. Just walk away. Sportsbooks are built on exploiting homerism.

Mcdermott's thoughts on Bills aging backfield.
QCity replied to #34fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ivory was a dead man walking the second Gore signed. -
He's had 3 concussions in the last 4 years, the last of which landed him in concussion protocol for 5 weeks. There's a lot of wishful thinking at this time of the year to simply hand-wave this sort of thing off, but it is a concern. The man plays in the trenches.

People are predicting his worth with AAV which is likely insignificant in this situation. Ansah wants what every 30yr old FA with an injury wants -- term. He wants a contract that will keep him in one place for 5+ years with GTD money. The Bills (and every other team) want to give him a front-loaded contract that they can walk away from after 2 years if things go south (i.e. the type of contract where AAV truly means nothing). Signing him to a contract that says he makes $50M over 5 yrs doesn't mean squat if a team can cut bait on him after 1 yr.

Do you know what the problem is with judging a player based on highlight videos? All they show is highlights. I mean, Kelvin Benjamin has a highlight video out too.

His tank looked pretty empty last year. He really lost a few steps. I don't think you are going to see a resurgence at 34.

Because he was born in Ghana, where birth records are inaccurate, we may never know his true age. There have been reports that he is actually 2 years older than he states. Ansah is one of the more intriguing players in the NFL, and I've been closely following his career. He is an absolutely incredible athlete. He moved to the US after acceptance into an international program at BYU and had no previous knowledge of American sports. He was a walk-on to the BYU track team. At 6'6" and 270lbs he ran the 100 meter dash in 10.9 secs which was ridiculous for a man of his size. It caused jaws to drop and coaches in their football program scrambled to recruit him. Not only did he have no idea how the game was played, he didn't even know how to put on pads. He basically learned how to play football as a sophomore and junior in college. He's a fascinating story who's carved out a nice career for himself in the NFL.

Jets getting better is ultimately good for the Bills
QCity replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, division rivals getting better is not good for the Bills. -
He's a massive idiot. Why would you pay him a $20M signing bonus just to ship him out of town months later? Cleveland is basically getting OBJ for 5yrs $75M with only $19M GTD. That's insane. It's $15M AAV.

I'll just copy/paste my post from the other thread - Paying big money to a RB on his second contract is one of the stupidest things a GM can do in this era.
-
Some contracts, like Kroft's, are paying for potential rather than past history. I'd bet money there is an out there after year 1 if he doesn't pan out. You can't get into a long-term contract with a guy with concussion history like Morse (3 in 4 years). It's actually pretty risky as it is. I'd also wager that most of these contracts can be walked away from after 2 years with little dead money. We'll see in the next few days when figures are released. Front-loading now while you have the space is prudent.

Yup. He'll add players and patch holes with his 12 draft picks.
