Fitzpatrick officially named starter in Miami
Happy replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So looks like Armando Salguero's article from last spring was on the money. You all are tanking big time and probably won't need to use any draft ammo for Tua, if that is who your GM is targeting. I don't know how good of a GM Chris Greer is, but he can't screw up the 2020 or 2021 draft with all the high picks he has. Not sure how Ross is going to fill the stadium this year; if I lived in South Florida, no way would I want to watch the Dolphins. I'd rather go fishing or swimming or play golf or chase lizards. It will be a very long season for the Miami Dolphins. The bright side is they can be set up nicely for a very long time after this year. -
Gruden keeps 3 QB's to keep Peterman (UPDATE: IR'd)
Happy replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gruden's decisions are only getting better. More to come, we can be sure. What are the odds that Bowl Cut fires Gruden after say next year? -
I think Lawson will stick around. He will be a pretty good DE who can stop the run and becomes a good pass rusher.

Kiko requests a trade (update: Traded to Saints)

Adam Gase. -
This is a great point. Maybe McCoy's east-west running style didn't gel well with the offensive line blocking schemes, where a north-south runner will thrive.
-
No, no, no. Probably going to New England, which is where all FAs go, per many here.
-
Shocked if true. Nothing from NFLN, yet.

A little more pessimistic than I would like to be. But it's true, no way this defense is in the same league as the 2013 Seahawks, which is mentioned alongside all time great defenses such as the '85 Bears, '00 Ravens, etc. It may have some of the pieces, though the defensive line could use more upgrades. I think the biggest difference is defensive coaching, Dan Quinn >>>>> Leslie Frazier. IMO, this defense will not be elite under Frazier.

The only positive that I can think of is that these guys are in their early to mid 20s...still have their whole life in front of them and time to do something else they want, whether or not it involves football. Still have to feel bad that their childhood dream may be over.

Murphy missed all of 2017 in Washington. In 2018 with Buffalo he was spotty at best. So that blown out knee shouldn't be taken lightly. I do hope he is good to go this year, but not holding my breath. Morse had a track record of concussions in KC. Missed the last 6 weeks in 2018 and most of 2017. There is concern that one more concussion ends his football career. Kroft missed most of 2015, about 25% of 2016, and nearly all of 2018. 2019 is starting out quite tentatively for him. I get your point about why guys are FAs, though my point is maybe they should be passed on; Morse and Kroft come to mind. I know my argument of passing on Morse may not be popular due to his potential, but concussions are taken very seriously these days. Potential means little if he retires early. Of the three, Murphy might be the guy with the highest probability who recovers. I think this current pro personnel department rolls the dice with injuries a bit much. This wasn't anywhere near an issue with Whaley's pro personnel department, as I recall.
-
Good point about Kroft; he probably does wind up on PUP. Keep Knox and Sweeney. Is the TE position going to be that heavily utilized that we need to keep more than three, even with Kroft on PUP? As far as DE goes, there is Murphy, Hughes, Lawson, Darryl Johnson, and I'd argue for keep Yarbrough since Murphy doesn't have a good track record of staying healthy. Love is starting the season on IR. Fewer DE's mean less for rotation. Murphy is not good against the run, so really he is more of a third down DE. Lawson is still developing against the pass, but seems to be making strides; solid against the run, so may develop into a full time starter. Yarbrough is a young rotational guy who seemed to show promise and is worth keeping around. Darryl Johnson is still an unknown rookie; potential is there, but who knows at this point. The problem I see is the penchant for bringing in pro personnel with injury history, whether it be TE, DE, or OL, where they occupy a roster spot due to potential only if they are not injured. Kind of throws a wrench in the works.
-
Do we really need 6-7 WRs? Or 3-4 TEs? Or more than 3 RBs? There are a number of places to make room for a DE. I hope you're not counting on Trent Murphy staying healthy. DE, and really the DLine, is thin at depth.
-
I don't think we can afford to cut any DE's, need the depth.
-
He needs to be safe. DE is a very precarious position right now. Hope Darryl Johnson is a diamond in the rough.

Fitzpatrick officially named starter in Miami

Looks like Clowney doesn't want to go to Miami. I also think Hapless' quote below that the Dolphins are not going to tank has merit since they attempted to get Clowney, even if ultimately unsuccessful. Might as well keep Tunsil (and avoid a team wide revolt) while further developing Rosen in a scheme (E-P) that suits his strengths. Fitz can provide leadership and help foster Rosen's development, where he wasn't ready to start immediately in Arizona. You may not get Tua, though that remains to be seen. I'm leaning toward agreeing with you that the Dolphins are not thinking tank and try to rebuild the roster similar to what the Bills did. They will have a bad year this season, while aiming to show improvement next year. -

Rosen must have shown very little in camp. Miami has to know Fitz's history; he'll win some and break your heart in other games. Overall a mediocre QB at the end of his career, and at this point the perfect backup QB. It is perplexing to understand exactly what Miami is trying to do. Why the interest in Clowney and starting a journeyman QB if they are trying to build for the future? I would have thought they would tank this year and try and get Tua next April. -
Don't take this the wrong way, but I bet it won't be hard because you'll be concerned about your job. Not being critical or cold, it's just the nature of the business. It sucks.

You bring up an interesting point...that the average career for an NFL player is something like 3 or 4 years. Most of these guys aren't Tom Brady, Jerry Rice, etc. A lot of guys most fans have never really heard of. This is what is so infuriating about guys like AB, all the talent in the world and he acts like a total nitwit.

Yes, with fava beans and a nice chianti

Jadeveon Clowney could miss regular-season games
Happy replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hindsight is 20/20. I'm happy with Josh Allen and think he will prove just how high his ceiling is during this season; no one will be looking back after this year. Doubt Clowney wants to come here and it is doubtful that Beane wants to bring him here, especially if it is for a one year rental. -
If Bills Games Become Too Expensive, Will You Switch Teams?
Happy replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe you're over thinking it. After all this time of being crappy to mediocre, and you're still a Bills fan, then you are a true fan for life. The rest is details... -
The Bills defense will need to shut the doubters up. No more blowouts, red zone inefficiencies, bend but don't break, getting thrashed in the run game, etc. I hate the Pats as much as the next Bills fan, but they are an efficient defense. The Bills need to get there and the national media will pipe down.

Leslie Frazier will not be our DC after this season.
