That is possible, though not guaranteed. Lots of new guys that have to integrate into the process, which makes playoffs an uncertainty.

Great post and well said. You point out a few of the reason why this is a "prove it" year for McDermott and a lot more should be known about him as a head coach by the end of the season. Some things to be optimistic about, while others to be concerned about; though I wonder if he is a Super Bowl caliber head coach...I'm not convinced and it will most likely take a couple more years to know for sure.

I don't know if they're low, at least not on purpose; just cautious. I do think he has a good shot to make the playoffs with this roster. A lot of it hinges on Josh Allen, who I think will demonstrate a high ceiling. Still a lot of new pieces to finish integrating into the system, so no gimme, imo. Yes, McD does have a lot of new talent; how he develops the new guys and his coordinators work them into the schemes remains to be seen. I don't think McD is gone unless this year is a complete disaster, which I don't expect. I would like to see the playoffs, but if they go 9-7 it is no guarantee. 10-6 should get them there.

This is a "show me" year for McDermott. Less than 9-7 is a disappointment. I don't think he has to get the team to the playoffs, but he should at least be coaching meaningful games through December.

Agree, not sure how we got #2 DVOA ranked defense; it is a case of stats lie. The rushing defense, at least, has to be much better. People get down on the DBs for not being good tacklers...when the RB comes at them full speed after shredding the front seven, it isn't easy to bring him down.

Yeah the Charger game. Embarrassing. That was a week after getting blown out by the Ravens; week 1 and 2. My question is: why does McDermott have to show Frazier how to bring the heat? The defense was blown out (21+ points) three times after the Charger game: Packers, Colts, Bears. I don't think Frazier can stop the better offenses in the NFL.

Murphy is terrible against the run; he doesn't stay disciplined to his lane. All teams have to do is run toward his side, and chances are it will be a big gain to the outside.
