I think that the coaches would prefer to have Allen sit and continue to learn for at least the first half of the season. I think Peterman would have to have a bad day and Allen a very good one to name Allen the starter going into the season. Resist the the temptation to rush Allen in. The offensive supporting cast is weak and they are going to struggle a lot in the regular season. I think best to have Peterman or McCarron go through that and have Allen come in late in the season. For sure, you don't want to start Allen and then have to bench him.

But the Bills have a lot more invested in Allen than Peterman. I am suggesting that Peterman (and/or McCarron) “take one for the team” this year.

While I am very encouraged by Allen’s play so far, playing behind that 1st OL against a 1st team NFL defense could bring him down. The combination of problems on the OL and a weak receiving group is a bad combination for an inexperienced rookie who likely needs extra processing time and time/space to continue improving his mechanics.

Really surprised not more talk about Harrison

I disagree strongly. Dareus mailed it in after he got paid and Washington was not a replacement after he was traded. They have had little at DE beyond Hughes the past few years. With all of that, I’d still argue that Williams might have been their best DL even at his age. -
I don't think many are arguing that Peterman is the long term answer. My argument to start Peterman (now that McCarron is hurt) is: 1. Allen has impressed in limited appearances, but would benefit from more time learning 2. The OL is a weakness and is liable to get whomever plays QB injured 3. Allen has worked hard to improve his footwork to help with accuracy, but if he plays behind a weak OL facing a lot of pass rush, he is likely to regress in that footwork 4. The receiving group is a definite weakness that combined with the OL problems will make life very difficult for whomever plays QB this season. Even if Allen's superior athletic traits seem to give the team a better chance today, I'd resist the temptation to hurry him into the lineup.

I have been pleasantly surprised by Josh Allen's play so far. I think he has a chance to be a good long-term answer at QB. He might even give the team the best hope to win in the short run. However, this team is not built to win now. The OL looks like it could be a big problem and WR is surely an under-talented position. While Allen has looked poised against 2nd and 3rd team defenses, he still is learning. Given the weaknesses everywhere on offense and that this team is in no way a serious contender this year, I think it would be smart to have Peterman be the sacrificial lamb while Allen learns more. The combination of poor OL play and a weak receiving group is going to get another QB killed like McCarron was mauled tonight.

Question: Can passing accuracy issues be fixed?
OldTimer1960 replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I saw a couple passes that weren’t close, though I would speculate that he and the receiver weren’t on the same page on those occasions. Other than that, I was pleased with his passes. -
Yes, he showed size and a good arm. That’s what Josh Allen will show as well. My only point was to have some patience- and that the patience should last more than a few games - and even multiple seasons.

I know that we are all interested in seeing how the rookie QBs look, but remember it is HARD to play QB in the NFL. There is a learning curve and it isn't prudent to give up on a young QB early. Troy Aikman had a very good career, in in his first 3 NFL seasons combined he threw 31 TDs and 46 INTS. For some (most) of these guys it takes some time.

Shaq Lawson on roster bubble
OldTimer1960 replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He does seem to have gotten the message and is reported to have shed some significant weight. Let's hope that he stays in shape and doesn't back-slide and also that the reduced weight improves his quickness. I think I remember an interview with the Clemson coach when Lawson was drafted. In that interview, he pretty much said that Lawson wasn't a big fan of working in the gym. Hopefully, that has changed. -
He was not a bad player at all - it just hurts thinking of who they passed on to take him.

5-2: Eric Galko Reviews the Bills' Draft on WGR
OldTimer1960 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. He has a bit of vested interest in saying that a guy that doesn’t fit his model is less than successful. i am completely confident that Josh Rosen will look better in year 1 and maybe year 2. If Allen doesn’t ultimately surpass Rosen, it will be a draft error to the extent Rosen is better. -
He was a rookie and lots of rookie receivers struggle. I don’t KNOW that he will improve, but it won’t surprise me if he does.
