  1. Nope, but often when it heats up like this there's a reason. Doesn't mean anything would come of it even if they are shopping him-- but this article means little until it's September and he's in blue still
  2. Only if you wanted to create space short term but that seems the opposite of the plan currently
  3. Honestly, dareus is an easy contract to assume, just impossible for us to deal still
  4. I'm not sure how substantially below he was. What did you peg his market value at?
  5. He's been the opposite- freelancing in his routes, placing himself before the team and not being a workout warrior by any stretch.... he's just an old guy, not a stellar influence like some vets.
  6. And kujo would've been our 6th man if not for his incident This is one of those complaints that stems from not watching a lot of other teams regularly. No one holds down 5 spots plus depth without any weak links outside of an occasional lucky (and brief) window here and there
  7. Ah, yes. We are big on processes, and he knows this process well. Good point.
  8. Most trades are relatively like that since the signing bonus stays with the former team and you don't see guarantees stretch deep into a deal
  9. Any reason in particular that you like him competing for 3 as opposed to what we have?
  10. Last time we did this was that "rumor Sammy is being shopped" thread
  11. We could never afford it. Can you imagine the franchise tag? We should probably just pass.
  12. It's happened to the patriots. Sometimes they hit the field and realize it wasn't meant to be. That said, it could be more - just can't say for sure
  13. I always picture them as front seven and qb with the rest being spend of opportunity. Running back a maybe. But we could've had MG for not much more and didn't really spend premium resources there outside existing.
  14. That they value the position as a day two (i.e. Second tier) investment?
  15. I think probably. We might have to throw in a WR too to balance it out positionally - Tyrod, boldin and a 2 maybe.
  16. I also think that our corners are more suspect than most acknowledge. I think our defense will be fine but not a great unit and it wouldn't take much to fall apart really badly.
  17. Also, I think it's fair to say that if we were going to have that "oh my god where did they come from" seasons, Sammy was one of 2-3 players that were going to carry it. On a realistic take if I was forced to predict, I'd say we went from 7 or 8 wins to 6 or 7.... but I'd also say the odds of 10 wins went from say 10% to 5% (for a bar napkin take)
  18. If he was putting up 1500 yards with a contender, odds are his passions wouldn't have shifted as abruptly. I think there's an easy way to conclude it's a few things coming together- diminished talent, outside interest and probably not being excited about the state of the team
  19. And the important lesson is John hanging on it... which is no good. No good at all.
  20. I agree that he likely thought he could just jump in and then realized that wasn't happening
  21. I'll agree there and often bring it up in Whaley talks. People call him a scout instead of team builder but how is he supposed to get any synergy between offseason plans when he can't even select a coach. There's a lot of disfunction to discuss.... but I find talking about building through the draft more enjoyable with people that know college football
  22. Right- they need saints-Esque fortunes of pulling guys like colston, Evans, nicks, Pierre thomas etc... day 2-3/udfa PLUS hitting the qb early. And even then we are a few years away I don't get gutting the young core of the roster and keeping the vets for this either
  23. I could see him taking a deal with the saints who need to replace fairly... I could not see us releasing him before the season.
  24. It's basically $6m per year and would come with pretty much no penalty to get out of at any time. I think shady could get 3 years, 18m and no guarantee on the open market. I don't expect a trade but not as big a stretch as some portray
