  1. Still like the onside kick. Terrible kick though. Goes 10 yards and you get an extra shot at a possession and the 10 yards Jax would have needed to kick a fg loses the game on a deep kick anyway.
  2. Also a first there ends it, while saving the timeouts buys a liiiiitle bit of flexibility in exchange for just a couple seconds
  3. A chance to win is well worth it. I might even go for the 1st. not punting when a touchback nets 7 yards
  4. Be an interesting call - does marrone kick it for the win or pin them deep? Gotta kick the fg in my book.
  5. No, at best they get it near midfield after a missed fg.
  6. Well, now they don’t need the first for a fg so ignore my common sense comment from earlier.
  7. Onsides here for me: don’t care if 15 yards gives them a field goal of a first down wins it anyway
  8. That was clumsy as anything
  9. Terrible spot to burn a timeout
  10. Didn’t catch it. He’s in uniform on both Twitter and Facebook when I just looked. id give a good bit for him though. He’s not meeting his full potential but he’s still very good
  11. 1) I’m fine with pushing hard within the rules. I’m not big on cheating. I also probably come across as being on that side for some of the similar reasons you replied to this thread the way you did. I think we have folks here that get so overzealous trying to point everything out that it gets to be a “c’mon man” on some of it. 2) I think it’d be fine to fire him if he pulled out the n word verifiably. I don’t think he’d need to be permanently banished from civilization though. Heck, he’s got quite the history and I’m not trying it there protesting his current employment. Shades of gray and judgment calls and such... Weird to have that in a discussion these days, I know. Racism, wrong (easy red line for me), how to address it varies widely by situation though and no singular answer. I’m down for supporting a baseline of “hey dude, that’s not cool” instead of celebrating it, and making it uncomfortable as a blanket starting point and escalating from there if it’s extreme or impactful. It’s disappointing to me that’s controversial
  12. There are a few things that I think are effecting my take here— 1) I’ve never been big on the sports are battle and anything goes on the battlefield. It’s a game for most, and a job for a few. I know that ruins some of the mystique of it— but such is life in my world view. Work hard, play hard- be a man you can be proud of... I wouldn’t feel particularly good about being a guy that needed to use racial slurs to win, and I’m not so sure it helps as much as some think. 2) while I think racism should be condemned, I don’t think an off comment should ruin your entire life, forever and ever. We should be able to say a comment is racist without it being a life sentence. If someone is consistently and intentionally acting out that’s different than a one off lost in the moment comment It obviously gets blurry and organizations and consumers will make their own choices. Much like the debate between celebrating big hits vs not liking the consequences — the nfl has to figure out the balance between competitive banter and what constitutes crossing the line. Words way less scary than head shots though.
  13. Itll all be a matter of qb-oc pairing and success.
  14. They have a for real defense and run game and an inconsistent qb. Makes it hard to go all the way but easy to win any given week. Hard to cone back two scores against a team built like them
  15. I get it and on some days am exhausted by the discussion too. Some times people get incredibly aggressive in their quest to condemn and ruin people It’s just this is one of those spots where it’s also disheartening to see so many people seemingly defend the idea of calling a guy a racial slur cause maybe it helps us win or is just the way it is. If he did it - it’s a crappy thing to do. It’s not the end of the world but its not ok either.
  16. If it was calling a guy an obvious racial slur- doesn’t take much time to say “that sucks to do if he did it” in fact, you’ve spent more time on this than that post would’ve taken. Several of you have. You can’t be totally shocked when some wonder about why people are so eager to invest in the “so what” argument instead of alternate I offered above
  17. Why should that be what happens on the field though? At what age do we start telling players to throw out the most offensive comments they can think of in order to upset opponents? It’s a lame element of football culture. im not even arguing about incognito in this response —but a guy shouldn’t have to take being called a racial slur at work and a kid sure as hell shouldn’t playing at school. Whether or not incognito said anything, it’d be nice to come here and see “I don’t know if he did but I hope he didn’t because it’s wrong if he did”
  18. Gave the guy credit for progress in his life Says we don’t know what happened calls out the fact that some have been really quick to say “who cares” and reasonably says this probably warrants getting fired from a job if it’s proven to have happened and that qualifies as everything that’s wrong with society....
  19. I mean, a simple - “yea, that didn’t happen” tweet would carry some weight compared to nothing at all There’s a good chance he said something dumb, and that it’s embarrassing but not the end of the world. No need to circle the wagons around him, or to stone him in the town square at this point. I’m sure he will get asked directly at some point and we will see the reaction.
  20. I’ve been loud about adding 1, if not 2, guys. If we can use next years first (or by miracle stay put) and get the qb with 21 and not a lot more this year— we can quickly add a LB, CB, WR and RB by the end of the third (I know this board looooves rb and cb on that list) pick up an offensive and defensive lineman in free agency and you could actually have most holes fillled and work in a little depth with lower tier signings and picks in the 4-5th rounds
  21. No ones jailing the dude sounds like he might not even be punished Would not be surprised if he said something innappropriate. At this point, probably best to hope it floats away quietly instead of commenting. Seems the jags player is letting that happen too at this point.
  22. I don’t know that his arms still getting stronger as much as he just hasn’t fallen off the cliff as bad as someone like manning did. But favre was still an mvp candidate until about right now. As for officiating — Gillette was built 20 years ago. Like 10-15 before this guy even started reffing or joined the company. It’s a bit of a stretch, but get the appearance and agree the Nfl is terrible about it. The saints falcons Thursday night game (where Sean Payton got a 15 yarder for trying to get a timeout called) was reffed by a former falcons player. You’d think given the number of crews and games they’d avoid pairings like these
  23. Its really a bit bit of a coin flip. I said the same early but the longer it dragged the harder it might be to right the ship. I’m not one to Bank much on preseason, but I hope he has a really strong August and makes a few big plays right out of the gate in September. If he rolls into the season without many touches and has a rough week 1- even you have to worry some, right?
  24. I’d venture that around here those two calls will be the only thing remembered
