This could be a great pickup. Sherfield put up solid #3 WR numbers while sharing targets with the most prolific receiving duo in the league. So he's a legit receiver, not just a gadget player or ST gunner that happens to be labeled a WR. He's biggish, really fast, and purportedly great on ST. He's got experience, versatility, athleticism, good character, and low mileage. I think he will serve whatever role he ends up with very well.

I'm sorta joking, but sorta not. I honestly would never rule out a CB at any spot in the first round from McBeane and company. But, my hope this year is that they trade up a bit to draft a higher caliber player at a position of need. Of all the positions they need to fill, there's a good probability that one of them will have a really good prospect slip into the high teens/low twenties. 27 is usually a wee bit too late for that action. One question I have is: What would the Bills be offering for trade capital to move up? Picks and/or players? It seems like they don't have a lot of players of value that wouldn't sting if they left.

You know they're going cornerback, let's just stop with the charade.

Agreed. And the tap water tastes like well-traveled beach sand steeped in rotten seaweed. And I could go on and on, but I'm short on time. Homer Simpson said it best: "Florida?! But that's America's Wang!"

Once again, here we have the assumption that a GM can (a) impose his will on a player, (b) make any trade happen at the drop of a hat (and always win the trade), and (c) somehow skirt the invisible hands of the open market and get the best value and outcome in every scenario. The GM simply can't control everything.

Singletary—inarguably above average statistically: discuss
skibum replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Singletary, Cook, and Hines compliment each other well. Singletary can run between the tackles, Cook and Hines can go around the outside, and Hines can catch. I think it's a pretty good RB group. The biggest issue last year was that Cook took 2/3 of a season to get it together. If he comes out strong this year, Singletary will become option B and we will all be happy. -
Only time will tell if this really sucks or not. I can't remember a player whose value was so hard to determine.

Edmunds was the centerpiece of the Leslie Frazier defensive scheme. Without Frazier, it's even harder to justify paying him that kind of coin. I'm excited to see what's next for the Bills D, but it always Sucks to watch a blue-chip, freak athlete, team captain, quarterback of the defense just walk out the door for no compensation whatsoever. Especially at such a young age. As Bills fans, I think we all know what's coming next - In Chicago, Edmunds blossoms into the greatest LB of his generation for the next ten years. Wins 3 titles and multiple DPOYs. Key to the city, free kielbasa for life.

Seems like a lot of money for a guy who hasn't rrrrrreeeeeaaaallly proven himself a bona fide startet yet, but OK.

A pretty solid deal for Carolina; the #1 overall pick is a very expensive prize, and that's about as little as you could hope to pay for it.

No way an OT better than Dion falls to 27. Even if it happened, it's still a draft pick, and you can't bank on that player outperforming a very solid vet. I would much rather see them take a G at 27 - even if it's a T who is then converted to G.

Drafting Has Been A Problem For Decades
skibum replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think if you really looked at every team's drafting over the years, which would be incredibly tedious, you would find that the Bills are probably not much different from everyone else. Every team misses more than they hit, and a great many top QB prospects never pan out. Late round Pro-bowlers are rare everywhere. The problem is that Bills fans look at the aggregated draft successes of all 31 other teams combined, and compare it to the Bills - without any real knowledge of other teams' draft failures, which are many. -
Probably can't afford him, but it sure would be nice. That's a rare talent.

I have always wondered what Edmunds could do with a different role in a different scheme. Leslie Fraser's defense requires him to patrol the backfield, which means he is going to be pursuing plays rather than disrupting them. The argument is that his very presence shuts off the middle of the field to the opposing offense. It is very, very difficult to judge if this is true or not, if he is exceptional in this regard, and if he could be more impactful in a more aggressive role. I'm willing to let McDermott and Beane figure it out, but it does seem telling that they would let such a high draft pick and long-time QB of the defense just walk.

Tom Brady was arguably the best QB sneaker of all time. It doesn't take a muscle-bound QB, just a really good OL.

At one point she was pulling the mic down from her face, but words were still being sung. Blatant lip synching, and it was as if she wanted the TV audience to know it. That's when I knew she was just phoning it in.

Keenan Allen could be a cap casualty according to reports

He's going to get overpaid somewhere, and I really doubt it's here. -
Should QB Compensation Be Carved Out of the Salary Cap?
skibum replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
No, then the richest teams would be the only ones with top QBs, and small-market teams that struggle to meet cap-level payroll already would never have a shot. I could see a 'max contract' type of scenario working, though. Good point about the NFLPA, especially considering this negatively impacts the vast majority of players. They should be doing something to address this. -
I think the league just prefers to be lenient about late snaps. Fewer penalties keeps things moving, and I think it also helps mitigate an aspect of home field advantage (crowd noise) that borders on unfair.

I don't know where everyone got off saying he would be the next Aaron Donald, just because they're about the same size. Kind of like when Aaron Maybin was supposed to grow into the next Jevon Kearse. Some guys are just freaks of nature. I don't think Ed is one of them.

Best we can hope for is a that a couple of quality vet FAs sign on (ala Da'Quan Jones), they draft well, and that a few young guys mature into better players. Good news is that they are a proven winner with a strong team culture and a superstar QB under contract. That will at least give them a puncher's chance for said quality FAs. Other good news is that some of the biggest holes to fill are among the most affordable (G, RB, S, WR2/3). One of Beane's most baller of strategies was to lock up the marquis positions longer-term (QB, WR1, CB1, Edge, LT).

The misuse of Cook and Hines was borderline criminal
skibum replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think the current Bills O line is up to the task of boosting the run/screen game. -
Great and pretty brutal assessment of Bills’ talent by Chris Simms
skibum replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Funny that he goes on and on about the lack of talent on Bills' roster, then is suggesting the coaches should maybe be let go in the same segment. A team with no talent doesn't go 13-3 with bad coaching, and vice versa. Earlier in the season, the narrative was very much that the Bills were the most complete team in football. I really think this is a lot of stupid hot takes based solely on yesterday's drubbing.
