  1. Bradford in my opinion is at best a lateral move from Tyrod but given that Tyrod has a much lower injury risk I would rather have Tyrod given the choice. Bradford is a much better pocket passer than Tyrod but is still very conservative and protective and can't drive the ball down the field consistently. Tyrod, however, adds a mobile dimension to his game (Which keeps plays alive, adds rushing yards, and adds more bootleg and play action possibilities) and is equally as good at protecting the football. So I would rather just have Tyrod at that point. I think in order to trade up to pick 3 or 4 the Bills would have to give up picks 21 and 22, next years 1st, and a 2nd and 4th this year. That's a steep price to pay and I am not sure that any of the top 3 QB's are worth that kind of trade up. I think that the Bills are better off waiting to see what QB's fall and make a more conservative trade up if needed. You can't go into the season with just Tyrod, but Tyrod and a promising rookie I am fine with.
  2. I fail to see where exactly the Bills can make a realistic upgrade at having a veteran QB on the roster other than Tyrod. I know people **** on Tyrod for a lot of good reasons but those people have forgotten about the truly awful QB play the team had in the years before Tyrod got here. Since Bledsoe the team has cycled through Lossman, Trent Edwards, Fitz, and EJ Manuel. Tyrod is light years ahead of any of those QB's aside from a half a season of Fitz who quickly fell apart.
  3. Every player has supreme confidence in their abilities, of course he is going to say something confident about his abilities. I think Shady has 1 really dominant year left, 2 dominant 1000 yard seasons would be shocking and a best case scenario. I think the Bills are best off using him as a lead back for 1 more season then preserving his career by moving him into a split backfield type role. Draft two young guys and let them battle it out while you still have a good lead back.
  4. I wouldn't trash him just yet, but I would completely demote him to a 3rd string QB. Draft a young QB, let Tyrod handle the position for one more season (Unless a real upgrade could be had in a realistic manner,) and have Peterman be the third string QB and make him earn his spot in camp against a 7th round pick or undrafted free agent. Peterman has given you nothing to really impress you other than some pre-season snaps, so why give him any sort of protected spot on the roster.
  5. Comedy Central roasts aren't even really roasts as the late great Patrice O'Neal pointed out. Roasts are supposed to be among friends, at the Comedy Central Roasts they have mostly random comedians completely unassociated with the person being roasted make a bunch of jokes about the failed celebs career. They also have people who barely know the person being roasted making mean nasty jokes with no love behind it. A roast is supposed to have a lot of love behind it to go with the humor, the way Comedy Central does it is a very poor imitation of something organic.
  6. Peterson hasn't had a good season since he was 30. He might still want to go but he hasn't been productive since 2015 when he was 30 years old. Going into 2015 the season in which he was 30 Peterson had 2054 carries, McCoy going into this season has 2185 career carries, over 100 more than Peterson did at the same age. Now you can say Shady doesn't take as many hits (due to his running style) as Peterson or other backs who declined at 30 or 31 but in 2185 career NFL carries you clearly are going to take your hits and suffer injuries. I think Shady gives you 1 more dominant year but after that he declines into a back better off splitting carries to extend his career. Draft some young backs behind Shady in the 3rd and 5th rounds. It solves your short-term depth needs and it gives you a shot at devloping two young players for a season to see if one can maybe take a co-lead back role in 2019. I think 2 dominant years out of Shady is the best case scenario here. 1 dominant year and another good season is the most likely scenario. You don't need to spend a pick above the 3rd round at RB but one needs to be drafted at some point.
  7. The Bills will be insanely lucky to have Shady for 2 more good seasons 3 is almost impossible. Shady will be 30 in 2018, the meme of running backs expiring at 30 is valid for a reason it tends to be true. I think Shady can have a really good 2018 but it is concerning that he is coming off of the 3rd most attempts he has ever had in a season and he is the dreaded 30. Granted he doesn't have a major injury history but he has been dinged up in the past and is a smaller back with a fairly good amount of miles having been a starter for 9 straight seasons. I wouldn't be opposed to a McKinnon signing but I think the Bills are better off drafting a 3rd round back and a late round back to wait in the wings and take over for Shady in a year or two. McKinnon would probably cost 3-4 million per year and I honestly don't think the Bills should spend the cap space.
  8. That kind of ignores the close games the Bills scratched out too. You can say if X and Y go our way we end up at Z but there are a lot of steps before X that could go even worse. This team isn't loaded with talent, its pretty decent but there are a lot of older parts on the team that aren't going to hold up the same in 2018.
  9. I thought they would get a 2nd but if the player is a decent player then it might come out to a similar return. The Skins are moving on from Cousins, I suspect that they will draft a QB and use Smith as a stop gap for 1-2 seasons. I wouldn't have minded getting Smith for a 3rd and a middling player I don't think Smith is that much of an upgrade at QB over Tyrod. You aren't going to get Alex Smith from last year as he will be in a new system and will not have 3 dynamic weapons on offense with a good O-line. You are going to get the Alex Smith from his first few years in KC which is somewhat better than Tyrod but not worth giving up major picks for.
  10. Star is a run stuffer and a space eater. I too was puzzled by his PFF grade as he seems to be well liked and respected by Panthers fans. But when talking to some knowledgeable Panther fans and they told me that Star is indeed a good run stuffer who holds steady against a lot of double teams. His poor PFF grade stems from the fact that he doesn't rush the passer and he doesn't penetrate the line of scrimmage much on run plays. But he holds the line against a lot of double teams which is a very valuable thing. He is kind of what Dareus was the first 7 games of the season just a big guy taking up space in the middle. But of course Star will come at a much cheaper price and is a well respected locker room guy. I think Star could be had at a contract in the range of 5-6 average annual value and for a good run stuffing anchor that's a solid deal.
  11. I would rather go 1 DT and grab Star in free agency to fill out the other spot, you could find a quality DT in the free agent market since there are a lot of quality DT's out on the market, Bills would be foolish not grab at least one. Then you have another 1st round pick to go out and spend on a QB or another roster spot.
  12. Exactly, Groy has played roughly as good as Wood has been when given the chance to play. Groy fills in and you bring in a low-cost vet or a late round pick to be the backup center.
  13. I think there are enough hardcore football fans that would want to watch 2nd rate football over waning season NBA and NHL. It's not going to ever be a massive success but could you get 20k fans to watch these teams live for a cheap ticket? Yeah probably. Could you get an audience of 4-5 million to watch games? Yeah I think so. Is that enough of a fanbase to make such a league viable? I don't know, but if the costs were low and the league run well I think it could work. It's not just NFL fans that you could get interested. There are a lot of NCAA football fans that could be siphoned off.
  14. My main priority if I were the Bills would be to resign Gaines and some of the better backups. I think then they will have a little bit of cap space to work with signing Star or another run stuffing DT would be a good get that considering the market would come fairly affordable and a mid-level starting caliber LB would be two gets that could plug some holes on a good value. I don't expect much from the Bills in free agency but Gaines and a good DT are two things that they desperately need to make happen.
  15. He doesn't have much trade value. His contract is too big and he hasn't been healthy. But he is still a dam good player when he is out there. I think the Bills ask him to renegotiate his deal or cut him. Sadly cutting him would create another hole on the roster but he is a big ticket item and can't stay on the field in recent years, they have to lower that cap number or cut bait on him.
  16. The XFL will likely play from the week after the Super Bowl to mid-April so if you want to watch football during the spring the XFL will be your only option. They won't be able to cut into the NFL's talent pool, at best they will be able to get the best players not in the NFL. It will be a product designed for fans of football who have nothing to watch after the NFL season is over.
  17. You have to do 4 big key markets. New York, LA, Chicago, and Dallas, but the other 4 teams should be in non-NFL cities. Orlando, San Antonio, Portland, and St.Louis or Toronto are some good cities to expand into. Eastern Conference Western Conference 1- New York 1- Dallas 2- Chicago 2- LA 3- Orlando 3- Portland 4-St.Louis/Toronto 4- San Antonio The XFL stands to work if they find a way to make it a decent football product when fans are desperate for more football. They don't need gimmicks but they do need to find a way to make the style of play feel a little bit different. I would like to see a few different rules. 1- Unique point after attempts, 2 yards out 1 point, 12 yards out 2 points, 22 yards out 3 points, 35 yards out 4 point conversions. 2- 10 minute halftime. Makes sense to have some sort of mid-game break but cutting it down 5 minutes would quicken the pace of games a bit. 3- Simplified rule enforcement, clear rules on what is and isn't a catch and other convoluted rules should be cleaned up. 4- Double the length of the end zone. You don't need to go CFL style but a 20 yard end zone instead of a 10 yard one would add a unique element. 5- You have to advance the ball for the clock to run in the last quarter. This would prevent kneel downs, not a dramatic element but it gives the defense a chance to get the offense the ball back in any situation.
  18. I think that InCog had a good year last season but was not as dominant as he was the previous two seasons. You have him for one more year let him play out that season and then if you feel like the player your draft behind him isn't ready or Richie has a really great year I think you could easily resign him for one more season. I think if you sign him to an extension you risk taking a cap penalty for 2019.
  19. I don't think you give Richie an extension. He has one more year left on his deal and he will enter the 2018 season 35 years old. I think at best he only has one more good season left. Keep him on the last year of his deal and draft a guard in round 4 to work behind him for a year.
  20. That's unfortunate for Wood he really seemed to like playing for McD and was coming off his only playoff game of his career. I always liked Wood, he was a good center for this team and always a gamer. It is good for the team that they have Groy waiting in the wings to take over for him at the position and probably play at a similar level but it is unfortunate that his career has to end this way. Glad to see Wood get that playoff game to end his career.
  21. The thing is with kids fresh out of high school you would have to make it a league with an age limit (Can you really have kids fresh out of high school going up against former NFL veterans). That probably would be more costly as an 18-24 year old league would have to promise as much if not more development than the college programs they hope to poach these kids away from. So you would likely have to pay a decent salary, online college, loss of value insurance, and have coaching and development staffs that are comparable to the large ones in college. To me that's a bit too costly for the XFL to put together. Even though long-term that might end up being the more viable league, the upfront costs are just too high. I think a minor league for bubble NFL players and washed out vets who might still be able to play is the way to go. I think there is enough talent to make spring football a fun alternative product for football fans during the NFL's off-season and the waning days of the NHL and NBA seasons with a championship that ends just before both sports hit their playoffs. I think if you put on a competent fun football product that there are enough hardcore football fans and sports fans looking for something else to watch in the spring to make it work. But we will see just how much Vince McMahon has learned from his past. I think Tebow was never a good pro-QB and I am not a fan of his. But from a marketing perspective, you can't deny that Tebow has a huge following and the type of image the league would like to project (Good clean family fun.) Tebow would bring publicity and all sorts of eyes to their product. He also wouldn't be terribly expensive since I doubt he gets paid much to do minor league baseball and the XFL season wouldn't interfere with his college football gigs. I don't really care to see Tebow play again but it would be too good of an opportunity for the XFL to pass up.
  22. McMahon desperately needs to get Tebow in this league. Tebow might not be the best QB but he should be on par or better than most other QB's the league would attract. But on top of that Tebow has a huge built-in following. Get Tebow a large deal to make it worth his while and you have a marketable star.
  23. If the Bills could land a good pick (3rd rounder I would for sure do it, 4th would be the lowest you could sell for) it wouldn't be a bad move. But if you are going to sell him for a 5th round pick or lower I would rather just try and keep him for another year. It was my biggest gripe with Dareus being traded, they sold low and didn't get anything back for him. I get the argument of sell while you can get something, if he struggles another year you can't get anything for him but I would rather bet on Shaq his third year in the league two years removed from injury than a 5th round or lower prospect. Once you start getting into the 4th round that value/risk proposition becomes more even. Overall I feel like they are going to ship him out for a 6th round pick which would be a bad move. I hope that they get a higher return than that. I fear that McD and the new administration is interested in having the team be "their" guys a bit too much.
  24. That defense was in my opinion the best in the league. They had 2 shutdown corners, and insane defensive line, good linebackers, and solid players on the backend of the secondary. That defense is good enough to carry you to a lot of wins and that's what carried them past us and the Steelers. Bortles, Fournett, and the rest of the offense played good enough but they ran into Brady who made them have to score more than they were comfortable with without turnovers.
  25. It's a call that could go either way. They in my opinion should have let it go as a non-call since Cooks engaged just as much with Boyue as Boyue did with Cooks.
