  1. If it's a big play that stops the clock and your defense looks gassed and unorganized if its under a minute (esp against a good 2 minute QB like Brady) I don't know why calling a timeout isn't a more common practice. A timeout allows your defense to catch their breath and reorganize its self. After that PI penalty I would have called a timeout, let the defense gets its bearings for a redzone stand.
  2. I don't know why more coaches don't call timeouts for their defenses during the two-minute drill. The Jags defense looks gassed, call a timeout give them a chance.
  3. Jacksonville has, in my opinion, the best defense in the league. They also have a good running back and offensive line. Their receiving core isn't terrible either but Allen Robinson not being there hurts.
  4. Missing that third down was a killer but that drive still shifted field position and sustained a lot of the offenses ability to move the ball they punted the ball in deep let your defense which is killing it right now go to work.
  5. Defensively they are insanely talented. They drafted Jalen Ramsey and Devante Fowler very high, Myles Jack was a Top 10 talent who they drafted early in the 2nd round. They made some great signings this past off-season with Campbell, Barry Church, and AJ Boyue, last off-season they acquired Malik Jackson, and they traded for Dareus. They also found some good talent in the mid rounds with Telvin Smith and Ngakoue. They also acquired Fournette and Cam Robinson this past season to help their offense establish an identity. The Jags season after season have spent a lot of money and drafted very highly. They haven't been able to put it together the past few years but this season it seems to have finally come together.
  6. Fitz was way gone by then. EJ was the QB in 2013 and Orton was the QB in 2014.
  7. Jags offense is moving the ball any way they want to right now.
  8. Jags playing a tough game. If the Jags can continue to run the ball and make things happen off of that they stand a chance to put up some points. If the Jags defense can continue to tackle well and get a bit more pressure on Brady they stand a chance to get some stops. It should be a close one possession going into the fourth quarter.
  9. I think that's honestly what the Bills plan to do. I think they plan on trading up with Cleveland at pick 4 for the other QB left on the board. I think the Browns will demand both firsts, plus a second, plus next years first. That would be an insane haul for them (Giving them 3 1st round picks and 4 second round picks while still having an extra 1st in 2019 in their back pockets.) But should the Bills pay such an insane price?
  10. I think the 3rd or 4th round would be a good point for a RB. I think you could poach a practice squad or backup player for some depth but no need to go crazy at RB when you might be able to get another year out of Shady and you have a couple of picks that are good spots to take a RB at.
  11. What would you be willing to give up in a deal for that 4th pick? I think the Browns are going to want both picks 21 and 22, The Bills 2nd round pick this year, and the Bills 1st next year. Ideally, I would be more comfortable giving up the Rams 2nd rounder and a 2nd rounder next year for such a deal (On top of the 2 firsts of course.) But QB's you do need to pay that premium for. Although that would compromise the rest of the roster (since you bankrupt this draft and hurt next years draft) but the one position you do that for is QB. That would be an insane haul of picks for the Browns if they got those Bills picks. They would have picks 1, 21, 22, 33, 35, 53, 63, and 65 on top of having extra picks in the 4th and 5th rounds from Carolina and KC. Plus they would add a 1st rounder in next years draft setting up another draft.
  12. The Bills need to resign EJ Gaines and their better backup players. Kyle to me is likely done, what a way to go out but he certainly would have a spot if he came back. After you keep your own I think you have to look at trying to plug the hole at DT, even if Kyle comes back there is still a need there. Star would be the big run stuffer I would go for. He would probably come affordably since the DT market has a lot of good players and he has been a McD guy before. Then I think you try and find a linebacker, no matter what you are going to have to draft a LB early but find a good OLB or MLB in the 4-5 million dollar range seems reasonable. After that I think the Bills will be pretty close to capped out. Even a restructure on both Glenn and Hughes wouldn't save a dramatic amount of money so you probably aren't going to have the cap space to do much more than that in free agency. But you keep your talent and you plug a couple of holes on defense that frees up your draft board. I am fine with keeping Tyrod and drafting a QB, force a young QB to go out there and beat Tyrod. Then draft a pass rusher, receiver or tightend, and linebacker to round out the defense and add a weapon on offense. Rounds 3 and 4 draft a RB and a Guard to help get youth at positions that you are older at and hope it all plays out well. The Bills have decent cap space but not dramatic cap space. They have a lot of assets too. But they are going to go into 2018 with flaws on their roster.
  13. I wouldn't be against there being 2 types, a more blatant PI is a spot foul, and then there would be a "lite" version of the call where less direct contact would be 15 yards and a spot foul. But no matter what there are going to be borderline calls that are up to the refs judgment.
  14. What team is going to trade for these players at those costs? They are still solid players but they are either hurt (Glenn and Clay) or not living up to their contract numbers (Hughes.) You either cut them now and take the small savings and hope 2019 you see the windfall cash wise. Or you just pay them and the issue off another season.
  15. Chud seems like a natural fit, McCoy is a decent idea too. Not bad candidates.
  16. I would love to see Gaines resigned and then go after Star. The Bills at best probably would only have cap space to maybe go after one more player that commands a starters salary but I would love to bring Bradham back. He fits the scheme and filling those holes at DT and OLB while keeping Gaines frees up the Bills draft board a bit.
  17. Cutting Glenn and Hughes only save you about 9+ million in 2018, cutting Charles Clay saves you nothing unless you do a post June 1st cut but that eats into two years worth of cap. This team was put in a lot of bad contracts cap wise during the previous administration. I think you could restructure Glenn and save 7 million which I think will happen. Hughes you are better off cutting in 2019 and saving nearly the full amount of his contract. If the Bills do clean house on these vets it's a move to build cap space for 2019 not 2018. 2019 could see the Bills have massive cap space since Dareus's cap penalty goes away freeing up 14 million and if you cut Hughes, Glenn, and Clay you see a windfall of freed up space but you just don't see that space until 2019. Richie should stay for one more year but he would actually save you 6 million if cut. He played well this past season even if he wasn't as dominant as he was in 2015-2016 he still played above average and I think the team could get one more year out of him and his contract number for an above average guard is pretty reasonable, draft a guard in round 4 and have him learn for a season then let Richie go in free agency. Tyrod I would say is more than likely gone but the veteran they will replace him with will cost as much if not more than him so there is no savings on that contract. Looking at the other big ticket items on the roster I say Shady is safe they should try to get one more good year out of him, draft a RB circa round 3 and have him learn for a season.
  18. Preston is going to want to start and he probably will command a decent salary given his experience, if you are retaining Brown it is not going to be as a backup. The Bills have 38 million in cap space, they could retain Gaines and maybe Kyle and cherry pick the rest for somewhere between 15-18 million depending on what Kyle commands. That would leave them with around 20-23 million in cap space. However you do have some hefty salaries on the roster like Tyrod, Glenn, Hughes, and Clay, I suspect that the Bills will try to restructure one or two of those bigger salaries to free up a little more space. I would like for the Bills to make one or two significant moves in free agency, they don't have to go crazy but the DT market is a buyers market and they need at least one good DT, they could also look at the LB market, Miliano is the only LB worth bringing back as a starter, you should at least plug one of those 2 LB spots with a solid free agent.
  19. They have a unique method of analysis that often tries to look at things in a unique manner. It works really well in O-line and D-line measurements, I think it is solid in WR and RB analysis but QB's and secondary they need to adjust some metrics. I think Tyrod would rank somewhere between 18-25 depending on what you looked at and what your subjective analysis is. 12 is just insanely high, and I am not someone who hates Tyrod at all but that's just an insanely generous measurement.
  20. Although I would like to keep Jordan Matthews I think he will command a higher cost than worth keeping. Gaines is a must to resign, dude was a big part of the teams secondary. If Deonte Thompson could be had for cheap he certainly would be good depth if affordable. On top of that I think O'Leary is a nice backup player worth keeping. Not sure if the other secondary players are worth keeping or not. Kyle Williams I hope hangs it up, he was still a pretty solid player but far from the dominant player he once was. I would rather see him hang it up after leading the team to the playoffs and still being an effective player. I think Gaines is the one big must keep though. There aren't that many starters on the list, Matthews, Gaines, Preston Brown, and Kyle being the only major starters that are free agents (And I think outside of Gaines there aren't any must keep players.). You can cherry pick the best backups on the rest of the list like O'Leary and let the rest go. I think that the list is pretty manageable esp considering the team has decent cap space and a lot of draft capital.
  21. Mahomes is in a good place to have success but the guy hasn't played much, his one game was fairly decent against a team that was beaten down at the last game of the season. So I honestly have no clue how good or bad he will be, but I think the Chiefs will be putting Mahomes in a good spot to have success. Andy Reid is an offensive guru, they let him learn from Alex Smith an established veteran for a year, Hunt, Kelce, and Hill are dynamic weapons and their O-line isn't in a bad spot.
  22. I think Smith is a marginal upgrade from Tyrod, Smith's numbers and level of production in his first four years with the Chiefs were very similar to Tyrod's years here in Buffalo. Smith's numbers this past season in KC were stellar and certainly better than anything Tyrod has done. But look at what it took to produce a very good but not great season from Smith. 1- He was in the 5th year in Andy Reid's (A dam good offensive coach's) system. 2- He had a good offensive line. 3- He had 3 dynamic offensive weapons (Hunt, Hill, and Kelce) If Smith comes to Buffalo he will not be playing in the same system that he has grown comfortable with. He also will more than likely not have 3 dynamic offensive weapons and isn't guaranteed to play in front of a good O-line (Age and injuries could catch up to our O-line realistically.) I can see Smith coming here and not being that much better than Tyrod. And Smith coming here will cost the team at the very least a 2nd round pick and some cap space. Which will further impact the teams ability to build talent.
  23. His offense was tailored to the talent, you have a good running back, a mauling O-line and a QB that can run and not turn the ball over. On top of that the Bills in 2015 were thought to have a fantastic defense so that kind of offensive game was going to complement a good defense. Although Lynn did a good job taking over for him I thought Roman was a good coordinator. I honestly think that the Bills drought would have been over had they kept Jim Schwartz as the head coach and then hired Roman as the OC and made similar moves. Rex trying to squeeze a square peg into a round hold on defense threw away a great defense.
  24. I see Benjamin as a low-end number 1 or a high-end number 2. That's a nice starting point for the receiving core. But unles s you resign Matthews and have a lot of faith in Zay Jones there certainly needs to be an addition made at the receiver position.
  25. He is certainly worthy of occupying a spot on the roster, as a number 4 WR he is pretty dam good depth and can make a play now and again. But he just isn't a dynamic enough player to be anything other than depth. But it is puzzling that he isn't on an NFL roster, dude can play and you need depth in the league.
