Allen working with Jordan Palmer on in-breaking routes
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A good sign is that a QB is not getting complacent after a ton of success. Josh has a good amount of "little things" to work on in his game. Glad to see he has been working on those details. -
Bills interests aside I do wonder what the hell is going on with Ertz and the Eagles? It is clear that cap wise the Eagles kind of have to move on from Ertz and that Ertz doesn't want to be there. Yet the Eagles appear to be holding him hostage to gain as valuable a pick as possible but the trade market is either not hot or non-existant. I hope for Ertz's sake it gets resolved soon hopefully with the Bills landing him but I just haven't seen this type of situation in the NFL recently.

Just a completely different era, even the best passing seasons from 1988 (Marino 4400 yards, 28 TD’s to 23 INT’s, Jim Evert 3900 yards, 31 TD’s to 18 INT’s and Cunningham 3800 yards 24 TD’s to 16 INT’s) would be pretty pedestrian numbers in today’s game. Teams passed less and the rules were more friendly to the defense. Also modern offenses have grown and adapted better to shorter and mid range passes. You just can’t compare the numbers without context.

From what I remember Jamis and Hill’s deals are basically one year deals with a low cap number in year one and then fully voidable after year 1. They are basically one year deals and then an option to give them a larger deal if they perform this year. They did let a lot of talent walk and cut some contracts but they freed up a lot of space by restructuring. They likely will just keep kicking the fan down the road and then once they decide to rebuild they will tank a couple of seasons and eat a bunch of dead cap in a single season. The dead cap almost always comes due but you can choose when you have to pay that bill and it only takes a season or two to dig yourself out.

That account just reports everything they see on Twitter, it gets somethings right but that's just because it takes a stab at everything. I don't think this move writes off Knox long term. I think it allows Knox a couple of more years to grow more organically behind Ertz as opposed to playing over his head and possibly developing poorly

Ertz not happening for now but I think a deal gets done in the coming weeks. A better offer simply isn’t coming and the Bills offer of likely a mid round pick is probably the best the Eagles can or will do. It is just a matter of will another team swoop in or will it play out like we all hope and the Eagle cave.

If the Bills can pull that off and get Beasley to show up for the season they will have added two meaningful pieces to the roster fairly late in free agency. Nelson would fill a nice need to get more depth and competition at corner while Ertz would add a reliable vet TE to the offense and if healthy possibly be a top 10-5 TE in the league. The only issue with the roster in my opinion would be the lack of a true star pass rusher but there are players on the roster that could hopefully step up into that role or something close to it.

CBS Sports Top 10 NFL HC's
billsfan89 replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
3 out of 4 years with a winning record and playoffs for a team that was coming off of a 17 season playoff drought is impressive. Toss in a pair of playoff wins and a division title and you have at the very least a resume for a top 10 coach currently in the league. -
Any concerns no Bills in top Under 25 players?
billsfan89 replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looking at the past 3 draft classes and I have some concerns esp about 2019 but also I am much more positive than negative. 2018 - Home run, of course we all know Josh is a huge hit but Edumonds and T.Johnson are contributors to the defense and I think H.Phillips can turn in a good season before his rookie deal is up. 2019 - Ed Oliver has been a contributor but not quite as dominant as you want a top 10 pick to be but he has time to figure it out. The rest of the draft class is in pivotal years. Ford has started here or there but needs to play well in 2021 to establish himself. Knox and Singletary have played but neither have really established themselves either. All 3 of those players could bust completely or be highly productive. 2020 - AJ was basically red shirted his rookie year but Davis and Bass both had productive years and could be big time hits. Moss showed flashes as did Dane Jackson. Lots to shake out here but fairly good early returns on everyone but AJ. If Oliver establishes himself as a Pro Bowl player and 2 out of the 3 between Ford, Knox and Singletary prove to be starting caliber players that draft will be a big success. -
Cole Beasley is good with the football
billsfan89 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love Beasley as a player but I don’t think he has a great head on his shoulders. Just looking at his Twitter and I see a lot of questionable takes and I am not even talking vaccine or Covid stuff either. -
Cole Beasley is good with the football

The offense of most players are healthy will still be very good without Beasley. But if this team wants to win a Super Bowl heading into a season losing your second best offensive weapon without a replacement is not a good idea. -

As much as I disagree with Beasley’s stance off the field it is undeniable that Beasley retiring would massively hurt the Bills on the field. Beasley is the teams second best offensive target for Josh. That’s not to say that Davis and Sanders are chumps but rather that the offensive burden falling onto them if Beasley is absent hurts the teams depth and might put too much burden on a veteran (Sanders) and a younger player in Davis. Beasley is also so critical in allowing Josh to take what defenses give him when teams double Diggs and take away deep plays via a soft zone. Beasley allows for a safe reliable outlet that can consistently get open in those situations. Even if this team acquired Ertz who can help in those situations does this team really want to rely on two vets with a recent injury history to be a huge part of the receiving options for Josh? I hope the team and NFLPA can work it out with Beasley where he can follow and understand the protocols and if he has a reasonable complaint about the protocols maybe they can adjust them in a way that keeps him and everyone safe. -
I think he is retiring and even if he wasn’t his play has declined in recent years. He was still a good pass protector but no longer a mauler. I would rather turn the teams attention in late stage free agency to securing Ertz or a vet corner or both. I don’t know why so many are down on the teams guard play. In 2020 when Mongo came back and Ike was inserted into the lineup the interior Oline play was improved and this team has depth and options with Ford coming back from injury (Ford was decent when he played at guard) and Lamp being added into the mix. I don’t think our guards are Pro-Bowlers but I think Mongo is a highly underrated player and Ike is solid and there is quality starting caliber depth behind them. Also add in another year of continuity (at least somewhat as there were a lot of injuries and shuffling around) and the Oline in my opinion will be good.

What do you expect from our 3rd year players?
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't say any of these players are in "make or break" seasons. However, year three is pivotal for Oliver, Ford, Singletary and Knox. Oliver is the only one who has justified consistent snaps but if he is more than just a solid starter he has to take that next step up. As for the other three all have had significant snaps but neither have cemented a starting role. Ford has Ike and Lamp competing for the LG spot, Singletary has Moss and Breida competing for snaps and Knox has Hollister and possibly a vet acquisition to worry about. -
I think this is the year for Ed Oliver
billsfan89 replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ed had a productive 2020. I think a lot of his issues in 2020 were related to not having a true NT on the roster. Luckily for his development he has proven to be an above average starter thus far in his first two seasons. Which means that he justifies his snaps which gives him a greater chance to develop. -
Bills working out DT Eli Ankou (update: signed)

I think they are going to be looking to bring in a vet NT before camp starts. Even if it is just a camp body they need someone else to eat snaps at the NT position.
