  1. You'd make a good players union advocate but a lousy GM.
  2. I know, I'm just sayin'.
  3. Reads like a quote from Sammy
  4. I wouldn't have paid that high for him, but then again, compared to the Watkins contract the Browns ended up getting a good deal.
  5. Seems to be an awfully polarizing prospect. The evaluations on him are all over the place, there are more than a few draft evaluators/analysts who believe he is a really good prospect and there are quite a few who think he's meh. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but based on his stats and from the limited amount that I've seen from him, I think he's a solid prospect and I wouldn't be mad if our plan A and B failed in getting one of the top tiered QB's and we selected him as a plan C with the 12 pick.
  6. I don't know. That's what he says. But according to some posters logic, this is the thinking.
  7. So Beane negotiates a pay cut with Richie so they have more cap room, Richie accepts, then he retires possibly because of the pay cut, yet somehow it's Beane's fault?
  8. I can tell you with 99% certainty that Richie does not know the draft plans that Beane and co. have.
  9. I'm starting to believe that there is a high probability that the Jets go with Mayfield. I think Rosen is the QB that will drop and would be great news for us, I'm thinking anywhere from 4-10 is a possible trading destination in order to get him. I don't believe anyone in their natural drafting order will select Rosen before Miami and he probably wouldn't even be selected by them. The biggest fear is having someone jump up to scoop him, at least from my perspective.
  10. Hopefully it's a ploy to get paid a little more.
  11. This would be a dream scenario for the Bills as they would have a great shot at getting their guy, if indeed Rosen is that guy.
  12. I've actually have heard this comparison by a couple of the more-respected members of the board.
  13. Who is this who you speak of?
  14. I don't care how Old school Gruden is, you don't let an edge rusher as good as Mack go. Those guys outside of QB's are arguably some of the most valuable players in the league and to the best of my knowledge he isn't any sort of a troublemaker or team "cancer". I think this is just a simple case that he wants to get paid and he and his agent are prepared to play hardball.
  15. I think a part of it could be pride and another and possibly larger part is that they thought that maybe they didn't fit their long-term plans.
  16. I didn't say they didn't have a plan, what I'm saying is that it just wasn't a well-thought out one built around the concept of building a team as opposed to collecting talent. I laid out my argument, you believe or at least imply that it was thought out well and because he missed out on EJ and because of ownerships decision to go with Rex, he ended up failing. I often see how some people blame Pegula for the hiring of Rex and not allowing Whaley to have full control of the GM reigns. I'll tell you why, because Whaley wasn't able to convince Pegula that he deserved to have that opportunity. That is part of the job, being able to effectively communicate your vision and a plan to be able to execute it. Yes, Pegula was enamored with Rex and he was wrong to believe that but I can tell you that by the time Rex had been hired, Whaley already had one foot out the door as far as Pegula was concerned simply because he didn't fully believe in him and that he was going to punt that decision to the next regime. And to be honest with you, I'm glad it worked out the way it did because if he had trusted Whaley to take the reigns, I don't believe we would have had someone in charge to chart the course towards sustained success. Also, the dead cap money that was created by the players Whaley chose were released/traded/what have you because they no longer were performing no where near the contact that they signed, plus some of those players didn't buy in to the concept that they were trying to build and instill on a team they were just inheriting. You may not like that concept or you may disagree with their philosophy and the concept of "removing potential cancers" but that is their process and part of their core belief. This is their team, they sold Pegula on a vision and I'm sure that Pegula alsocame away very impressed with their detailed approach to Football. Pegula even said as much. I can't find the article but it was right after Beane was hired there was an extensive article of an interview with Beane and how he approached things. After reading and listening to his interview I knew that we had a totally different kind of GM than with what we had with Whaley and that his approach would from my perspective be much more durable. The only question mark for me was would he be able to surround himself with a good scouts and would they be able to select the players needed to make this work? That is still a question mark but in regards to their thought process and philosphy, I'm all in.
  17. I'm not basing what I'm saying in hindsight, I'm basing it off of the the sort of moves he made and the lack of clarity of any sort of a vision that was ever shared with us. Not to mention that he wasn't able to sell himself to the Pegula's to be able to run the ship as a GM should be able to. Look at what Whaley did to the salary cap. We lead the league in dead cap money, whose fault was that? You say he "just missed on EJ". ummm, that's not all he missed on, the Sammy trading of an additional first rounder was an epic failure. It's one of the worst moves that this organization has made in the past decade. That from my view is indisputable and totally set this franchise back. What about the Dareus signing? Sure you can say that Dareus was playing good ball at the time and that was right around the going rate for elite DT free agents. But there were red flags with Dareus and the bottom line is that it ended up being a bad signing. Way overpaid, the guy is one strike away from being out of the league for a very long time and frankly that decision is still negatively impacting this football team. You say hindsight, I say it's what I've been able to observe.
  18. Part of the job of a good GM is to successfully SELL his vision and his plan so that he can have the confidence of ownership to run the ship and put in place his guys. Whaley, clearly did not do that.
  19. Of course there was a plan, but it wasn't well-thought out and not nearly as detailed nor with as much as vision than that of the current regime.
  20. I get that and if they believe he can truly be the guy then yeah, I agree you pull the trigger at 12.
  21. If the Bills can't get Rosen or Mayfield then trading back from 12 a few spots to get Rudolph as a plan C would be good with me.
  22. I also agree that there will be 6 first round QB's and 4 in the top 10, possibly 6. I don't think there are any perceived "homerun" QB prospects like we saw with Manning or Luck but there are a bunch of 1st and 2nd round grade QB's to be had which is a lot more than we are used to seeing. It's the most that I recall seeing in recent memory.
