I think the basis of the Rooney rule was to raise the profile for viable minority candidates by granting them interviews with decision makers as well as the media attention that goes with it. Then they are at least on people's radar screens when positions arise. I know as a past employee and current employer that it's never bad to have a good interview. Even if you don't get the position your name will circulate and put you in better contention for other opportunities. People hire based on relationships. That's a big reason that the same coaches get recycled from position to position. If someone hasn't met you or has never even heard of you then your chances are pretty slim. The rule is supposed to help with this.

Just be careful to not pay for past performance. Some players outperform their contracts and some underperform. The guys that underperform don't issue refunds. The team needs to evaluate what his future value will be and propose a contract accordingly.

The OL dominated in the first half and held up OK for most of the second despite the Bills throwing it virtually all the time. By comparison, Houston's OL got manhandled and Watson was still spectacular. I don' think the OL is the main culprit here. If you think you're going to sit back in all clean pockets in the playoffs, on the road, then you have unrealistic expectations.

Do you think the Bills are intentionally not drafting players who may become stars? Or are you looking for them to trade their next draft along with $200m on a guy like Khalil Mack?

This is 100% true and I'm sure it's the reason for the decline, but there is no substitute to watching the game live in a stadium full of cheering fans, IMO.

It's hard to believe that any team that plays in NYC and wins a championship could possible be under-appreciated by pundits. It's usually the exact opposite.
