  1. Ahh, the good old days.
  2. Bills special teams played well too.
  3. Guys that can play the run right at them, flow sideline to sideline, cover the TEs over the middle and backs in the flat are named Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher. Few LBs can do everything well and be proficient in any scheme. The Bills had small fast guys. Then they went 3-4 and got rid of them to pick up bigger, slower guys. Now we're back to a 4-3 with the big, slow guys trying to play 4-3 LB positions and they're struggling. Frankly, I don't think the Bills have a single championship caliber 4-3 LB on their roster right now.
  4. Because they keep moving the goal posts on what they are looking for at the position. There is a lot less talent on this D than you think.
  5. If the Bills leave then at least the county can rename Ralph Wilson stadium. Or tear it down.
  6. Maybe the'll cut the team limo driver or the backup custodian next. What does that say for Gailey's coaching ability vs Jauron's?
  7. There is absolutely no reason to believe that the Bills will win this game. That's why I believe that is exactly what they are going to do.
  8. Dick Jauron has a very good track record with defenses and head coaching experience too. In fact, he has a better winning percentage as a head coach than Nolan. Maybe the Bills should talk to him.
  9. Fitz is what he is... Mediocre. This is his 8th season in the NFL, including his 5th as a starter. He has never led a team to a winning record. He barely has more career INTs than TDs and his QB rating is in the mid 70s. What other QB has miraculously turned from mediocre into an elite player at this stage or his career? It doesn't happen. He is a Bill so I hope that he does well, but he is what he is. Or would be if he had ever produced an 8-8 season.
  10. These are pretty much my feelings to. I also have a refrigerator at work. It doesn't matter. Speaking to the press twice a week is plenty. He's not the President or anything. How critical is it to have daily access to the LDE of the Buffalo Bills? I know we're in the age where people tweet whenever they go to the toilet but come on. The only thing I care about is how he is performing on the field. To this point he has been slightly above average, which is obviously not what the Bills paid for. If he has the drive to prove himself worth what he's getting paid then he'll take it personally and step it up.
  11. So when I got called ignorant for noticing the obvious (that Williams was NOT being double and triple teamed on every play) it was in error? Good to know. I remember a review of Williams by a Houston sports writer when the Bills signed him that summed him up very well. It was posted on the board. It said that he is basically a power player who is very strong vs the run, has a good bull pass rush and an OK speed move. He has no real counter, however. He tried to develop a spin move but doesn't have the footwork to do it. His best success in Houston was moving around and surprising the DL with his power. It said that he could drop down to DT and blow right through guards who weren't prepared for him. This sounds a lot like the guy we're seeing now.
  12. It's nobody's fault. The Bills are always bad. It's like death and taxes. Nothing that Nix could do about it.
  13. Bills O will have trouble vs SF, but their defense should do much better than vs NE. SF runs an old school offense so Wanny won't be so overmatched. SF will still force 2 or 3 turnovers and win the game but I suspect it'll be something like 20 - 10.
  14. Why was Brady still in the game? And throwing deep too.
  15. The Bills D is bad. I don't see a quick fix. It's going to take time, work and new personnel/coaching. It's nothing that's going to change in a game or two. They just need to try and coax decent games out of them and focus on winning against the "beatable" teams (aka bad teams). If they do that they might have an outside shot at recovery, but honestly I don't see how they can not be psychologically defeated at this point.
  16. /Didn't the Eagles do the same thing with TO the last time they went to the Super Bowl?
  17. Why do people want the Pats to be injured? I want to see them at full strength so that we can really see what the Bills are made of. If they can beat a full strength Pats team then what's the excuse for not making a run at the SB? I don't want to win because the other team stinks. I want to win because the Bills play great. JMO
  18. Wannstadt has never believed in heavy blitzing. He's said numerous times in his career that he believes the best teams and best QBs will beat the blitz more often than not... and that those are the teams you will have to beat to win championships. His pass defense is old school. You a) take away the QBs first read by tight press coverage or by confusing him at the LOS and then b) the DL gets pressure on the QB before he can get to his second or third reads. You keep 7 in coverage so that you don't give up big plays. Whether it can work in today's NFL, with the OLs allowed to hold and with so many spread offenses that try to limit the amount of disguise a defense can throw at the QB, this season must tell.
  19. It's hard to criticize Mario Williams in Buffalo. It shows that: a) you don't know what you're talking about or b) you don't understand how Mario opens things up for everyone else (aka the Lee Evans effect) Strange that other elite players who are keyed on every week, like Demarcus Ware or Clay Matthews, still manage to make a few plays themselves. I guess they're not nearly as unselfish as Mario. I like the guy and he's helped the run defense a lot but he does need to do more vs the pass. I'm sure he's working on it.
  20. I would miss inter league play. Can you imagine never playing an NFC team year after year unless you reached the Super Bowl, and even then you only play one team. Your schedule would be the same every year which would be boring. It would make the season less interesting. I think that divisions create rivalries which are good for the sport. I would not want to do away with them.
  21. Looks good to me!
  22. I can see the intended theme of this thread so I know I'll get beat up for this but I don't totally disagree with them. I think that the DL has been excellent against the run. Better than the national media has given them credit for. No on has run it on them in any of the three games except for the Jets in garbage time. However against the pass they've been average, IMO. I attribute it to these factors: (1) The Bills don't really have a premier speed pass rusher. Mario is a power guy and Anderson has underwhelmed so far. I would actually say that Kelsay has looked better than Anderson. (2) Offensive lines are allowed to hold at will. This may change slightly with the new refs, but it has really been a trend for the last few years. I wonder how Wanny's scheme that relies on front four pressure without blitzing will work with holding allowed. He does do a lot of stunting. (3) Most teams utilize a short passing game these days and when they do go deep and need some extra time they keep 6 or 7 men in to block. Hard to get pressure on quick passes.
  23. Imagine if it was Rob Johnson.
  24. Wade Phillips was available in 1989 but the Bills were happy with Corey. Wade went to Denver instead. No he wasn't. He was a very good player but not a HOF. Of course the HOF has become so watered down with guys like Doleman, Martin and Kennedy getting in that I suppose Smerlas was as good as them.
  25. I guess I just don't understand what you're saying. Are you claiming that: a) you don't have to be in control of the ball in order to throw a pass and that anytime someone flips, batts or throws a ball forward it is a pass? b) Fitz did have control of the ball when his arm started moving forward so it was a pass? c) The QB windup is part of the act of passing so Fitz initiated his pass with control when he started his windup? d) Maintaining contact with the ball is all you need to do to demonstrate control, so even though the ball started coming out of Fitz's hand during his windup he didn't completely lose it until he had already started throwing the ball forwad. e) Something else. I also don't understand your point about the hand not having to move forward. If you are throwing the ball backwards then isn't it a lateral? The ball has to be moving forward for it to be a forward pass doesn't it?
