Bills 4-12 over the last 16 games ... Chan is not the man
vincec replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because they guys who replace them are even worse than they were. The Bills are several stops removed from Marv Levy- HOF coach. People aren't longing for Dick Jauron because he was a good head coach, it's because, while he lost, at least he didn't get blown out every other week and his teams quit on him less frequently. It always reminds me of something I heard a long time ago... When people say that "It can't get any worse", they don't know what they're talking about. It can ALWAYS get worse. Same goes for Gailey. It can get even worse than him. Keep that in mind as names for his replacement are bandied about. -
These are truly brutal.

the defense is not that talented
vincec replied to J-E-T-S-L-O-L's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dick Jauron's defense was a middle of the pack NFL defense. Many on this board said it over achieved. Let's compare them to the current group for a second. DL: Kelsay and Williams are the same. Dareus replaces Stroud and M Williams replaces Schobel. Improvement or no? I say a little better. The Bills have never replaced Schobel, but Williams has unquestioned talent. Dareus is better than Stroud was at that point in his career. LB: Sheppard replaces Poz, Barnett replaces Mitchell, Moats replaces Elison/Scott. Clearly worse. Worse at every position, IMO. Especially at MLB. DB: Byrd is the same. Gilmore replaces McGee, Williams replaces Florence, Wilson replaces Whitner. Again, I say worse at every position although Gilmore and Williams are young and may improve. So out of 11 positions, 3 are the same, one is better, one is equal and 6 are worse. And that defense was a middle-bottom unit. I don't absolve Wannstedt of all blame because this defense is bad but should not be "all time" bad. But there is definitely a need for more talent. -
I'm excited to have Kelsay starting again!

So we're back to Kelsay being the Bills best DE? Well that was a lot of money in the off season wasted. -
Bills 4-12 over the last 16 games ... Chan is not the man
vincec replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dick Jauron was 11-6 over 2007-2008, including stretches of 6-2 and 5-1. I guess he's good too. Well one thing is for sure, Dick Jauron knows defense better than Nix or Gailey, which is no surprise. Nix and Gailey destroyed a decent defense in record time when they took over. My question is which is worse, the Bills offenses under Jauron or their defenses under Gailey? And which trademark catch phrase is worse: "If I had the answer I would have already solved the problem. I don't have the answer"- Chan Gailey. or "It's hard to win in the NFL"- Dick Jauron -
Well if he said that there is no plan in place and that RW will sell the team to the highest bidder and that the odds are better than not that the team will leave Buffalo, how would that be for ticket sales?
-
nice. Once again, the goal is to convert draft picks into quality football players, not the reverse. Unless you think a player is not good or that you'll lose him anyway, you don't trade him.

More crack reporting in that article by the Arizona Republic on TSW. The headline reads "Buffalo Bills DE Mark Anderson Out For Season", then in the article in proceeds to report that Chan Gailey said: “He’s going to be out I don’t know how long,” coach Chan Gailey said. “They’re (the doctors) going to tell us after they go in and look at it. But he’ll be back. It’s not like he’s going to miss the rest of the season."
-
No he hurt his hip in the playoff game vs Cincinnati the week before.
-
A) Rex Ryan will not get fired this season unless the Jets win 3 or 4 games. If he is fired, he will likely get better DC offers than at Buffalo. B) If Chan Gailey is demoted as head coach he will not stay on as OC. Unless Chan is fired as HC or Wannstedt resigns, Wanny will be the DC next season. Chan is going to give him at least two seasons to turn things around.

When exactly is the time to panic?
-
My exact question. I for one think that Moats could be a real force as an edge pass rusher on blitz situations if utilized properly. If the Jets could get 6 sacks from Aaron Maybin then Moats should be worth at least as many. Never-the-less it would be nice to see what Bradham can do over an entire game.

I question the validity of this. Here's Wannstedt in his own words from February on what he wants from DL: Link "When you reflect back on the defenses that I’ve been responsible for, for me the guys up front have been playmakers and we expect guys to make plays. We want it to be a defensive line friendly scheme. It’s really trying to put those guys in the best position where we can use their talent, where they can play fast and give them the opportunity to make plays." and "On why he thinks a 4-3 defense will make his group more productive on the field: I think that from the few guys that we do have, our two inside guys (Marcell) Dareus and Kyle (Williams), I think it will give those guys a chance to make some plays in there." That doesn't sound like his plan was for them to tie up blockers so other people make plays.

And through it and over it too. The Germans were good at that stuff.

The team needs a vision to rally around, even if it's an illusion. They need to believe that Chan has the maps to lead them out of this mess, which is why he can't go to the press conferences and constantly say that he doesn't know what happened or what to do but will try to figure it out. That doesn't inspire confidence. He needs to guess if he doesn't know and then act like he's SURE that's the way to improve (kind of like Buddy Nix does). The resulting increase in team focus and confidence will lead to some improvement even if he proves to be wrong.

This has never been Wannstadt's scheme. Where did you hear this? Link? Wannstadt's scheme has always been to give the DL as much freedom as possible to make plays, sometimes at the expense of OL getting clear shots on the LBs. I suspect that this is part of the reason that the LBs are performing like doo-doo (and because they stink).

The Gailey Era Is All But Over
vincec replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ahh, the good old days. -
Bills special teams played well too.
-
Guys that can play the run right at them, flow sideline to sideline, cover the TEs over the middle and backs in the flat are named Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher. Few LBs can do everything well and be proficient in any scheme. The Bills had small fast guys. Then they went 3-4 and got rid of them to pick up bigger, slower guys. Now we're back to a 4-3 with the big, slow guys trying to play 4-3 LB positions and they're struggling. Frankly, I don't think the Bills have a single championship caliber 4-3 LB on their roster right now.
-
Because they keep moving the goal posts on what they are looking for at the position. There is a lot less talent on this D than you think.
-
If the Bills leave then at least the county can rename Ralph Wilson stadium. Or tear it down.
-
Maybe the'll cut the team limo driver or the backup custodian next. What does that say for Gailey's coaching ability vs Jauron's?
-
There is absolutely no reason to believe that the Bills will win this game. That's why I believe that is exactly what they are going to do.
-
Dick Jauron has a very good track record with defenses and head coaching experience too. In fact, he has a better winning percentage as a head coach than Nolan. Maybe the Bills should talk to him.

Jaws rates Fitz #30 of 32 Starting NFL QBs
vincec replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitz is what he is... Mediocre. This is his 8th season in the NFL, including his 5th as a starter. He has never led a team to a winning record. He barely has more career INTs than TDs and his QB rating is in the mid 70s. What other QB has miraculously turned from mediocre into an elite player at this stage or his career? It doesn't happen. He is a Bill so I hope that he does well, but he is what he is. Or would be if he had ever produced an 8-8 season.
