Watched NFL Network's "NFL Playbook : AFC" yesterday...

OK, let me rephrase. Luck doesn't run. He averaged 5.1 carries per game in 2009, 4.2 carries per game in 2010, 3.6 carries per game in 2011. Cam Newton averaged 20.3 carries per game in 2010. They are no where near the same type of QB. -
I agree 100%. I understand if Mr. Wilson believes that he owes his heirs more than Buffalo fans, but he has enough money that he can throw the fans a bone and still leave his heirs very, very well off. Securing a succession that keeps the team in Buffalo would cement his legacy around those parts. I'd do it for that reason alone, if I were him. Let me just ask the obvious question. If there is a succession plan in place, why keep it a secret? The uncertainty is adversely affecting the negotiations and his reputation in the area, not to mention the sanity of Buffalo area Bills fans.

Equipment Manager fired after 35 years?

It's strange. Since the collars are a fabric, which is made of colored fibers and these fibers come in different colors, then why can't they simply weave them into whatever pattern they would like? At the very least, they could obviously make the collars a solid color so they form a complete ring around the neck. I suspect that it is an attempt to highlight the "flywire" collar, gone awry. -

I don't think I agree with this. This type of QB was always effective in the NFL, but the problem has been that they inevitably get beat up and injured. I think you can have a guy that runs primarily and a guy that throws primarily and maybe make it work, but full time QBs who run a lot of the time simply aren't going to last in this league. It's just way too physical. The QBs that have made it (e.g. Steve Young, Roger Staubach or John Elway) became primarily passers PS- Luck can't run. The only Bill who laid an egg on offense was Fitz. I thought the OL, RBs and even WR played pretty well. It just shows you how important the QB position is. -
Nix and Chan are not on the same page

Tom Landry, Paul Brown, Bill Walsh, Tony Dungy, Marv Levy. There are plenty of great coaches who weren't chair throwers. You don't have to be Vince Lombardi or Bill Cowher to succeed. -

Bills are done changing GM or HC in the Ralph Wilson era. It's Nix and Gailey or bust until there is a new owner. And when a new owner arrives, he/she will change coaches and GM irregardless unless they have won the Super Bowl in the interim, and even they maybe. -

I'm actually interested in this topic but I don't really have the slightest idea what you're talking about. What is "flywire technology"? And why are people adopting it if it screwing up their jerseys? -
Los Angeles NFL plans in jeopardy?
vincec replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let me first say that I don't know the first thing about the LA Stadium proposal or LA traffic patterns in particular, however in general, stadiums built downtown function much better from a congestion standpoint than ones built in the suburbs. Downtown areas already have built up transportation systems that are designed to carry many more people every weekday than go to the stadiums on Sunday. Also, downtowns are typically centrally located which means that traffic is arriving and dispersing in multiple directions. There are bars and restaurants all around the downtown that people can meet before the games to "tailgate" at, eliminating the need for giant parking lots full of drunk people. The stadium here in Charlotte is downtown and you can drive within a few blocks of a sold out game 30 minutes before game time and not even know that there is a game going on. Within 30 minutes of the game ending everything is clear. Compare this to Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo. Almost everybody arrives and leaves from the same direction and there are only a couple of roads to get there. What's that area like before or just after a game? -
Experts - Can Leodis become good?

Well, they just fired the equipment manager. -
This is all pretty cut and dry to me. Wilson does not want his heirs to be tied down by succession plans or long term leases. That's why there is no succession plan and the Bills are trying to avoid a long term lease. From the reports I've seen Wilson's heirs don't want to manage the team so they will most likely sell it and the best way to get the most $ is to sell it on the open market with as few restrictions as possible. The one year lease extension is a disaster for the City. Not to sound heartless about this, but the closer Mr. Wilson gets to the end, the less likely he will be to commit to a long term lease, and with his age and the health problems he has been having I would say that he is at that point where he doesn't want to commit. I don't see why the Bills wouldn't just ride out this extension and re-evaluate the situation next year. In the meantime, the county and state would probably do well to get even a 5 year extension at this point. When the Bills go on sale, the only way they stay in Buffalo is if a bid comes in from Buffalo that is at least close to the open market offers, which will certainly be well over $1 billion dollars. If they are close then I think Buffalo will get the home town advantage but if there is a significant discrepancy, then I think the team will walk.

If that team had a kickoff specialist who could kick the ball out of the back of the end zone then this wouldn't have happened.

You'd better hope that the first half goes better than last week or you'll be the only one. -

Plus it's just preseason and the Bills aren't really trying. Once the real games start they'll just flip a switch a start playing great, like the championship teams of the 90s to whom they are even more closely related than the Giants and Packers. Fitz's ribs are better now and he has new mechanics coach so it doesn't mean anything that he has never led a team to a winning season in 7 years in the NFL including 4 mostly starting. Plus Edwards is gone and everyone knows he was the real problem on defense. Once we get a new DC to go along with all the talent the defense will probably be top 10. Don't worry about the Jets game because the Jets were really fired up, the Bills just didn't get the bounces and had some injuries. Also, the Jets OT kept hitting Mario in the face, which isn't fair. It's an anomaly, after all. It's not like the Bills have been losing recently. -
So Pears isn't on the injury report at all? Is he anticipated to start? After no preseason at all and one weeks practice with the first team? Hmmm...

Everyone should read through this link because what was ruled is nothing like what many posters are writing about or that the players are tweeting. Apparently, the panel simply ruled that this case involved both a "pay for performance" scheme and an "intent to injure" by players, and Goodell made his ruling considering both of these factors. However, under the CBA Goodell can only suspend players for the "intent to injure". "Pay for performance" schemes, while in violation of the CBA, are not within his purview to punish. Therefore, the panel vacated the suspensions and sent the case back to Goodell to re-evaluate it without considering the "pay for performance" aspects- only the "intent to injure". Ideally, I'm sure that they're hoping for a settlement but if not then Goodell can simply say that he believes that there was enough proof that Saints players were intentionally trying to injure opposing players and therefore they should be suspended, and suspend them again (although presumably for less time).

Why so cynical? Maybe the Jets would just like to see what Hagan's got at WR. They're not exactly set at the position.
-
FYI. You can dress 46. There is no more emergency QB.
-
Is this team significantly better than last year?
vincec replied to Homer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully, the Jets offense won't have the stuff to really put the LBs to the test. I think that the defense and special teams will be fine, it's going to be up to the offense. If they can win the battle vs the Jets D then I feel really good about winning. -
Why did Chan keep [Smith and McGee]
vincec replied to Niagara Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought the NFL did away with the "emergency QB" rule last year. They just added another roster spot for the games. The "emergency QB" could only come in at QB anyway, and if he did they your other two QBs could not re-enter the game. Was I asleep when something changed here? I understand what you saying about Smith, however. My only question would be that if the Bills were forced to go to their third QB option how confident would you be with Brad Smith taking snaps? Would he be better than Thigpen? Or if you didn't want to have a third true QB how much different would it be if you just put Fred Jackson back there and ran the wildcat with him? -
a) the Panthers are planning to play a lot of 3-4 b) Edwards was better than Carrington, but also more expensive and with less long term potential.

vincec replied to Niagara Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not a Smith fan. I think the Bills need at least 5 real WRs. I also thought that they should've given Potter a shot to win the kicker job outright and possibly cut Lindell. But saying all that, the only two players that they cut that I was hoping to keep on the team were Gilbert and Carder because of their developmental prospects. It looks like Gilbert will be on the practice squad and I suspect that there was something behind the scene with Carder. So they didn't really lose out on anything that they can't scoop up off the waiver wire as needed. -
As I've always said, the goal is to convert draft picks into contributing players, not the opposite. As far as the draft goes, Nix drafted Dareus but all the other key contributors on the team were either acquired before he got here (F Jackson, S Johnson, K Williams, E Wood, A Levitre, R Fitzpatrick, J Byrd) or were free agents (Chandler, M Williams, N Barnett). Spiller contributes some but for the 9th overall pick you might expect a little more. We'll see if this year's draft class is any better but Nix's best work to date has been in FA not the draft.
