$22,846,458.00 available cap space is GONE
vincec replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So if I understand this thread correctly, with the rollover, restructuring and cuts the Bills will still have $15m - 20m in cap space next season the way things look now, correct? So it's not gone. -
This and the thread about holding lead me to an idea. Wouldn't a team be better off with with big, powerful defensive lineman who can really push the pocket than quick, penetrating types? Holding makes less of a difference with these guys and most teams get their speed rush from blitzes these days anyway. Imagine a DL with 2 Vince Wilforks in the middle. Would be very tough to deal with IMO.

Goodwin and Brooks to miss time after Surgery.

Get the TVs out of the training room and start prescribing more squats. They should just go ahead and IR Hopkins to get the roster spot. Why bother holding a spot for him honestly? You know, the way a baby's diaper might be "loaded" -
This is not holding in today's NFL. The only time I ever see holding called anymore is if the defense player is past the blocker or moving past him and the blocker tackles him/grabs and pulls him down/etc. If the blocker is between the defender and the QB then he can pretty much do whatever he wants in terms of grabbing, hugging, etc. You see this on most plays. Sad but it's all to help protect the QBs.

How about the inability to STOP third downs. Pats seemed to convert them at will.
-
My thoughts: Positives- Manuel, Jackson, O-Line, Dareus, Alonso, McKelvin, Lawson, Searcy Negatives- Spiller, S Johnson, Penalties Both the Bills and the Patriots made some plays and some mistakes, as per every game. The Bills went into the 4th Q with the lead but could only produce 1 first down on offense in 3 possessions, meanwhile the Bills defense couldn't stop the Pats on the winning drive. It all came down to the last few minutes of the game. Pats got it done and the Bills didn't. Belichick said as much at his press conference.

6-10. But obviously, just because a team stunk that doesn't mean that they didn't have any good players on it. Of course, we'll see what this year holds with Brown and Searcy before we can judge. The other thing I would like to say on this matter is that I don't want to ever see the Bills draft a safety or interior offensive lineman in the first three rounds again if they aren't going to pay them should they develop into premium players. If you don't think these positions are that important then don't waste the picks and then have to let them go later.

The Bills had the money to sign both Levitre and Byrd (and still extend Wood). So, are the Bills a better football team this season without Levitre, with Byrd holding out and with $20m in free money under the cap? Maybe the Bills think that they need the money for next season or the one after that but to me it's unclear as to how they will better spend it or that they didn't have other options to get more money if necessary.

True. This could be the other interpretation of his comments, namely that he doesn't need to look at any film to know that he needs to stay away from Revis.
-
They aren't going to franchise him next season. It would cost the same as what he's asking for a long term deal and they've already said that they don't want to give him that. Byrd will likely get what he is asking for on the open market and the Bills don't want to pay it so a long term deal is out. He's going to get traded before the start of next season. I would start by asking for a #1 but a #2 or #3 is probably more likely.

Biggest bust in last half decade?
vincec replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A half decade is a very short time frame to be using. You can't even accurately judge the last couple of drafts yet so you are really only choosing between 2 or 3 drafts. -
(Update) Jim Leonard back in Buffalo
vincec replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he's not an upgrade over Duke Williams then the Bills are even worse in the secondary that I imagined. -
Is that when he "flips the switch"?
-
Powell was punting pretty well until they cut his competition. Then it seems like he lost concentration or something. I don't think they'll replace Powell at this stage. If he stinks it up this year then they'll find someone else. You can pick up a decent punter anytime.

Patriots Claim former Bills LB Chris White
vincec replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did read the posts. Please try not to be a condescending ass. I know that it probably comes naturally to you but try anyway. I assume by your response that they didn't play special teams in the preseason. Wait, they did. Well then I guess he'll tell him all the trick plays so that NE can spend their ST practice team learning to defend a dozen plays that have a 0.001% chance of being called instead of the things that they have been doing regularly. Right. Or maybe you think he's going to run the Patriot scout team defense? Come on. EVERYONE in the NFL is trying to win the Super Bowl so Belichick is not a genius for wanting to. You can get your head out of his a$$. Your post is honestly ridiculous. -
Did anyone pick Butler up? If not, get his butt on the practice squad.

Patriots Claim former Bills LB Chris White
vincec replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What could Chris White tell them that they can't learn from watching the films of the Bills four preseason games? That's all White knows anyway. He doesn't know the game plan for this week. -

Bills roster cut down to 50 (-18 then -5 more)
vincec replied to zazie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"We don't know if anyone out there is any good, but we do know that you suck so we're cutting you." -
Well since they are $20m+ under the salary cap the answer is self-evident.
-
Getting Manuel off on the right foot and helping him have a successful season is the most important thing for this year. Everything else is gravy. If he's 100% healthy and gets a full week of preparation then go ahead and start him. Otherwise, don't throw him to the wolves.
-
This is a false argument. I don't see San Francisco or Seattle, teams stocked with talent, releasing top players to sign other ones. Why not? The Bills are $20m under the salary cap. They had plenty of room to sign Levitre, Byrd AND Spiller next season. Really? Are you going to list Urbik and Pears too? They were re-signed. These guys are not the same as Levitre or Byrd. Those are the guys you CUT to sign top guys like Levitre and Byrd.
-
Which front office let Levitre go and has Byrd packing his bags?
