That's why the opponents are blitzing. Very hard to run play action, which are slower developing plays, vs the blitz. See the New Orleans game for examples. I say run it right at them. If the Bills are going to develop a dominant run mentality then they have to believe that they can run it on anybody, regardless of front or personnel. Mix in some quick slants, screens and the occasional max protection deep throws and that's your best chance, IMO.

Realistic expectations for Tuel on Sunday?
vincec replied to KikO M G's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really don't understand the Tuel situation at all. If, when your QB gets hurt, you start trolling the market for a new starter instead of turning to the backup on your roster then you don't have the right backup. First we pickup Lewis as the new starter. Now it's 50-50 between Tuel and Flynn. Really? As for expectations, who knows but it's clear that NO ONE believes in him including his own coach. That probably doesn't bode well. -
Jags WR Justin Blackmon Suspended Indefinitely
vincec replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll bet the Bills could get him for a bargain price right now, with the hope that he turns things around for next season. Just a thought. -
He throws a nice deep ball.

Jonathan Martin AWOL, Incognito suspended
vincec replied to uncle flap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I saw the seeking treatment part and I don't want to sound cynical, but these days anyone who commits a public faux-pas and has a publicist seeks treatment as a means to rehabilitate his reputation. People who cheat on their wives get sex addiction therapy. People who flip out and fly off the handle get anger management therapy. People who get drunk and do something stupid or get a DWI get substance abuse therapy. So to me, just hearing that he is getting treatment doesn't necessarily mean that he has mental health issues. If how he was treated on Hard Knocks is typical of how he has been treated in general then I can see snapping and telling your teammates off without some type of disorder. -
Jonathan Martin AWOL, Incognito suspended

I see that this has become a discussion on mental illness. Maybe I missed something but was there any mention of mental illness in the report? Maybe he's just "as mad as hell" at some of his teammates and "not going to take it anymore." Being an athlete you could easily see how his reaction might be a little juvenile. -
I don't know, maybe it's just bad luck, or the annual punching bag- the linebackers. But I'm still waiting to see the secondary play well as a unit. I do think it's curious timing to publish two articles praising CBs the week when they give up the most passing yards, most passing TDs and most points this season.

Is he averaging 5 TD passes per game as well?

David Nelson makes it rain on Pacman Jones
vincec replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm never a fan of cutting guys before they get beat out by somebody else. Nelson was decent, not great, but no one beat him out. He was just cut hoping that someone would play better. -
Honestly, saying that is just a weak excuse. In a game where the Bills have shut down the opponents running game and are putting heavy pressure on the QB, the Bills defensive secondary gets roasted and the following week there are articles about how well the DBs played??? Ridiculous. How about a little accountability.

So Gilmore gave up 0 yards according to PFF. Robey was great, just unlucky according to Joe B. Byrd is the best FS in the NFL. McKelvin is having the best season of his career. Williams has saved his career at safety. Who is responsible for 322 yards and 5 TDs when the DL was terrorizing the QB and had completely stopped the running game?
-
Wouldn't really fit the Bills scheme anyway.
-
I really question all this stuff. All I hear is how Gilmore is a shutdown corner, McKelvin is paying great, Robey is an underrated steal, Bryd is one of the best FS safeties in the game and Williams has found a home at strong safety. Yet the Bills secondary just gave up 332 yards passing and 5 TD in the last game and is ranked 24th in pass defense in the NFL. And it's not because of the pass rush because the Bills got a lot of pressure on Brees and have been getting a lot of pressure on opposing QBs in general. So what gives? Just a massive run of bad luck? I think some of these players are being vastly overrated and Gilmore is at the top of the list.
-
Why would they blitz more when you were getting tons of pressure with what they were doing already? Pressure on Brees was not the problem. Coverage downfield was, again, the main issue.
-
I agree with both of these points 100%. The people who didn't like Greer pointed to his measurables, but you could see something was up with Greer because he kept making plays in camp and Losman kept making excuses about it.

Well, kinda glad we passed on Freeman...

That may have been the worst game ever played. -
How bad must Burton have looked if he can't beat Justin Rogers out?

I don't agree with your assessment. Check out Joe Buscaglia's in depth review of Dareus's play in his "Upon Further Review" series. He is the 3rd highest rated player on the entire team. He is doing a very good job for an interior DT in the pass rush department and a decent job against the run given his size. They play him a lot at the 3 technique like Kyle Williams to maximize his effectiveness but he is simply not suited to play 1 or 0. Neither he nor Williams are guys that can handle double team on a regular basis. The Bills really need a massive 2 down DT/NT if they're going to become a dominant run defense.

Just Win Baby. The rest is irrelevant. -
He was brought in to play 3-4 DE. Now he is playing NT. How about they draft a real NT and move him to DE where he belongs. A front 3 of Dareus - {Massive NT} - K Williams would be pretty hard to run against I think.
-
Honestly, if the Bills beat New Orleans on the road, and undefeated Kansas City team, Pittsburgh on the road and a Jet team that has owned them over the past few years then the coach would be lynched if he replaced his starting QB. Unfortunately, this is not going to happen because Lewis is not that good. The Bills will be doing incredibly well to go .500 over the next 4 games and hand the reigns back over to EJ so that he can continue his development.

This is a great thread.
