  1. I started a topic a week ago posing a hypothetical trade between Houston and JAX (Watson straight up for Lawrence). (I know, I know, it's not going to happen. Teams aren't going to trade within the division). I got a lot of grief from folks saying "how can you trade Lawrence; he's going to be generational!" But look at this list. Ten best ranked QB's coming out of college and still a 20% bust rate. If Houston did propose the trade, JAX would be crazy not to jump on it.
  2. The problem with this hypothetical is the same problem as ANY trade with Watson. You just don’t trade a top 5 - 10 QB in his prime. At the end of the day, I seriously doubt Houston pulls the trigger on any trade.
  3. So if you are the Texans you are not making this trade because (1) you’re not trading Watson under any circumstances; (2) you’re willing to trade him but not to a team in your division; and (3) no matter how much potential QB has, you’re not trading a franchise QB for a potential franchise QB. if you’re the Jags, (1) you’re not going to take on a big contract when you can have a potential franchise QB on a rookie deal; (2) you stink and you need a multi-year rebuilding plan and it makes more sense to grow with the rookie and build your team around him. is that about right?
  4. I agree that the fact that they are both in the same division makes this a non-starter but if they weren't in the same division and Houston decided it was going to move on from Watson, it's an interesting thought exercise.
  5. I hope Watson stays in Houston. I really hope he stays out of the AFC East. I really, really hope he doesn't end up with the Dolphins. I've seen a lot of speculation about landing places for him but one I haven't seen is Jacksonville. Wouldn't a Watson for Jags' No. 1 pick (Lawrence) make a decent amount of sense for both sides? Houston trades a disgruntled franchise QB for a potential franchise QB, gets some cap relief and can time a rebuild around their new guy. JAX trades a potential franchise QB for an honest to God franchise QB knowing that sure things aren't always so sure (Goff, Wentz, Darnold, etc., etc.). JAX has the cap room to take on Watson's contract. If that's a stumbling block maybe they throw in a cap dump (as seen in NHL trades). Only reason not to do this is that JAX doesn't want to take on the contract but wouldn't you want to accelerate the timetable to start winning games and make your fanbase (such as it is) happy?
  6. Gilmore is a heck of a lot closer than Newton. Multiple All-Pro, DPOY. I'm not a huge fan but he's got a decent chance to get in.
  7. Wave bye-bye. Play Fromm and Webb a ton in pre-season. If both of them look horrible, panic and trade for a veteran back-up.
  8. Getting Chandler Jones would be kind of insane in a good way. If TB parts ways with Brate, he’d be a nice fit for the right price.
  9. Phenomenal trade for Eagles assuming that they get to dump Wentz' contract. Can the Sabres trade Skinner to the Colts?
  10. You’re correct that I was too lazy to conduct in depth research. I knew he retired because of a history of concussions and that he was a scout for the Panthers. I used to live in Charlotte and know that there are hundreds if not thousands of Bills fans who live in the area. Presumably some of them post on this board. I thought someone might have some insight as to whether Keuchley has any desire whatsoever to come back and play. If he didn’t, I certainly understand wanting to avoid brain damage when he is older. On the other hand, he’s 30 years old and only one year removed from playing at a high level. It’s a legitimate thread.
  11. In the history of the Super Bowl, other than Brady, three QB’s have won four SB’s at age 37 or older. Unitas started SB V at 37. He was terrible, didn’t finish game and his career was pretty much over at that point. (In fact, if you want a laugh, take a look at the box score for Super Bowl V. It may have been the worst game ever played.). Elway won back to back Super Bowls at 37 and 38 and retired. Impressive end to a HOF career. Manning won with Denver but he couldn’t throw the ball 20 yards downfield and he retired after the game. That’s really the thing with Brady. Forget about everything before he turned 37. What he’s done after that is just sick.
  12. Hey, I appreciate (most) of the replies. In starting the thread, I looked at the fact that Gronkowski sat out an entire year and came back to help lead his team to a Super Bowl win. I don't consider the thread any dumber than the threads asking Gronkowski to "come home" and finish his career with the Bills.
  13. Is Willis 29 years old and one year removed from playing at an All Pro level? If yes, sure let’s go after him too.
  14. I have no idea if he has any desire to play again or how healthy he is, but if he wants to play again, if he's healthy and if he wants to chase a ring, how perfect would he be for the Bills? He turns 30 in April, he has the Carolina connection, he would be former Defensive Player of the Year who knows how to play middle linebacker and knows how to stop the run. Sign him to a one year deal (after acquiring rights from the Panthers) and move Edmunds outside. Of course, this is all falls into place after we sign J.J. Watt!
  15. I have no idea if it makes sense economically but I’d like to find a way to keep D. Williams around for another year. If not, hello left tackle Cody Ford!
  16. To me, here’s the really mind boggling thing about Brady. Jim Kelly retired at 36. At 36, Brady had been in 5 Super Bowls and won 3. In the conversation with Montana, Bradshaw, Manning, Unitas, Starr, etc. etc. but certainly no consensus GOAT. At 37 and after, he’s been in 5 Super Bowls and won 4. That’s just unreal. It’s a combination of diet, conditioning, competitive nature and yes, being hit less than any QB who has ever lived but there’s no question you have to give him credit for what he has done after most QB’s have hung up the cleats.
  17. Again, not trying to de-legitimize what Brady has done. Doing what he has done at 43 is nothing short of amazing. But come on. "2nd TD to Gronk, a tight spiraled laser". No one was within 10 yards of Brady when he made that throw (after surveying the field for several seconds). No one was near Gronk when he caught the ball. There isn't a single QB in the NFL who couldn't have made that throw. If a QB could not make that throw, they wouldn't be an NFL QB.
  18. What the heck happened to Singletary this season? Rookie season he had the stats (over 5 yards per carry) plus passed the eyeball test (at least to me). He wasn’t particularly big or fast but he had a real knack for making guys miss tackles in tight spaces. This year, not so much. OK, not at all. I think it’s just as likely he won’t make the team next year as be starting RB.
  19. I always have believed it’s an interesting thought experiment to imagine the QB’s switching teams and seeing whether this would have changed outcome of game. This goes all the way back to Bills - Cowboys Super Bowls. If Kelly was QBing Cowboys and Aikman QBing Bills, would have it changed the outcome? Clearly not. What if Mahones was QBing Bucs and Brady Chiefs? Would it had changed the outcome? Only in sense that final score would have been about 50 - 0. Yeah, I think 15 or more QB’s would have won that game for the Bucs.
  20. I thought so too. Pretty obvious on replay it was a flop.
  21. To me, it was the inexplicable time out call by Andy Reid with 40ish seconds left in the first half. Your team, both offense and defense, has looked like total dog####. Yet, you are down only 14 -6 and Tampa Bay looks like it will be content to run out the clock and end the half. Plus Tampa Bay only has one time out left. Yet, for some reason you call time out after TB's first down play and after TB's second down play! Even if your "strategy" works, you get the ball back around your own 20 with 30 seconds left and no timeouts. With the way Tampa Bay played defense it probably wouldn't have made any difference but if KC had gone into the locker room down one score, regrouped and come out with points to start the second half, maybe it would have made a difference. When TB scored the touchdown to make it 21 -9 at the half, as Greg Easterbrook would say, I wrote "game over" in my notebook.
  22. I thought Wentz was untradeable because of his contract? Is that not right?
  23. You know which draft is under the radar as an "oh so close to legendary" draft? 2012. HOF QB, HOF DB, rock solid left tackle and solid LB. Oh, wait a second, we failed to draft the HOF QB sitting there in the third round on a team desperate for a QB.
  24. Here's an offbeat analytics reason to root for the Chiefs next week. No team in the Super Bowl era has won three straight championships. No sure how many have done it in the entire history of the NFL-AFL. Green Bay won three straight straddling the Super Bowl era ('65 - '67). If Kansas City wins next week, history will be working against them next year.
