  1. http://blog.cleveland.com/pdextra/2012/09/how_cleveland_lost_the_browns.html Modell was ignored for years by the city, even when the Gateway complex (Cavs/Indians) was being planned he was being ignored. None of the city leadership thought he'd actually consider moving the team. The best was when Mayor Mike White acted all surprised and outraged after ignoring Modell for so long. But Art was a lousy businessman too and Baltimore's deal bailed him out of financial problems in Cleveland. On one level I don't blame Modell for moving the team because, at the time, City government was the quintessential definition of red tape but it was very much a d#ck thing he did.
  2. As long as Dorsey is in charge, those days are over. But there's always a risk of Haslam going all Ralph Wilson and deciding to fire him.
  3. Him just being able to pull off those opening statements should merit him a tryout. He packed a lot of words into an escalator ride! I hope he gets to broadcast, I agree he would be good.
  4. Kareem Hunt had a nice side to him.
  5. How has football enabled his behavior? The behavior would be there with or without football. The Browns and NFL have laid out a detailed plan he needs to execute to be considered for reinstatement. It's certainly up to him, but he has a structure to operate within. Hunt had a rough early childhood before moving to Willoughby to finish middle and high school.
  6. He clearly made a mistake, a party went sideways, I'm sure he regretted what he did but it all went away at first and so at 23 he unwisely decided it would all stay away and he lied to KC about it. It happens to non NFL people too. Even if he hadn't made those mistakes he was serving alcohol to a minor. The video surfacing and forcing him to be fully accountable was a blessing in disguise for him. His future actions will tell.
  7. Of course not, but why should he not use it if available? For better or worse the NFL does understand the disadvantaged backgrounds and does try and help guys like him. Just like Josh Gordon.
  8. I do know a bad apple when I see one and Kareem is not a bad apple. He's demonstrated kindness, respect, self deprecating humor, appreciation, giving and humility. And he's a very hard worker. He definitely has got serious issues and I believe he'll get them fixed because he is a caring person. And I'm definitely rooting for him.
  9. Of course what he did is reprehensible, but at this point he definitely deserves the chance to change himself. WRT your other point, years ago a friend of my wife started dating a US Marshal who had moved to CLE to get away from his ex wife and essentially abandoned his kids. To boot, the friend still hadn't finished her divorce. I was totally not cool with the situation and he agreed to meet me at a bar and talk about it. At the end of that I was cool, he was in a terrible situation and did what he felt was best. The funny thing was he specializes in interrogation and was stressed out and sweating bullets ahead of our meeting. They're still married over 10 years now. So if a female relative wanted to date Kareem, I first would be respectful of her though very concerned but could be ok with it if Kareem was willing to go one on one, look me in the eye and address all my concerns.
  10. Ok,I get that, but one of his fights was in KC, also Hunt is genuinely grateful for his experiences in Willoughby and how they put him on a much better life path. So it's harder for me to agree with your comparison. Chad Kelly goes home to a HS game and gets in an altercation, Hunt happily goes back to show his appreciation to fans and everyone he knows.
  11. What you really need to do is remove your head from your rectum and allow your small mindedness to expand. I have far more confidence Kareem will achieve that over you.
  12. I get you and respect your opinions, all great points that may derail Hunt. But it's hard to say for sure. I don't know Chad Kelly, but my impression is that he's a self-centered, entitled punk and that is completely opposite to how Kareem Hunt carries himself and behaves while he is around Willoughby. I feel your equating Hunt to Kelly is completely unfair, and at the crux of my responses to you.
  13. It is blind judgement on your part, and I find it pathetic. I'm not absolving him in any way, simply trying to lend perspective beyond press reports. I've seen him do good things, show people kindness and respect, including myself. Anyone who watches the entire video with any kind of rationality realizes Hunt had ample opportunity to seriously harm her and did not. What he did was borne out of frustration and disrespect. Absolutely wrong, but not in the realm of your social-media-style panic wh*re condemnations.
  14. I don't know Kareem but my understanding is he has no relationship with his father, and dad was a big reason they left Elyria. Kareem may have problems being a violent drunk but he is not an ahole. South hasn't had a good team in several years, so when Hunt showed up I spent plenty of time observing him. Quiet, but very open body language and quick to smile for the kids and anyone he talked with. Intense competitor but also more laid back than anything. Also stayed the entire game when he probably should have left at halftime. He's not some angry attitude guy, in fact just the opposite. Whoever the tweeter is who claims Hunt had violence problems here at South HS, well I'll look into it but I've never heard anything of the sort here. Most talk of him being, quiet, humble and respectful. Obviously he's got some serious problems to resolve but the amount of blind judgement here is just astounding.
  15. No. Kareem has done a lot of good around here. I've shaken his hand and can promise you he's not an ahole like Chad Kelly. He needs to grow up and choose his friends better. I would guess he came here to CLE to be close to his mom and the things he cares about while he gets back on track. He's early 20's, had a rough childhood before moving across town to Willoughby, and has made some poor decisions. He's not unforgivable. Dorsey is the man. Considering many RB's burn out after a few years he's really hedged his bets.
  16. ?? Usually it kicks in 3-8 hours afterward. That's what I found online and from eating too many free happy hour pizzas during college!
  17. No. Those guys know what it takes to win and at this point I think are humble enough to talk privately why they blew it. No one's gone to 4 in a row ever. Except for the big one, those guys knew how to win. There is a lot of value in being able to communicate that to the new generation. It contributes to the culture. If McDermott, Beane, or Pegula did not want the retired guys around the team, they wouldn't be.
  18. Sands of Iwo Jima, Destination Tokyo, Patton, The Deer Hunter. Dunkirk is a newer one but great cinema. Definitely tons more.
  19. I think Josh will improve his accuracy and this is my simple reason why: He regularly made perfectly placed throws for us at all levels of the field, hitting guys in stride. He's also a raw prospect out of college, and vastly improved his decision making this year. Willing and able to improve. Contrast that with EJ Manuel.
  20. I live in Willoughby, met Kareem the summer before his senior year and just want to add a couple things from my local level to the discussion. Kareem lived in Elyria (West side of CLE) in a bad situation before his mom decided to get him out and move to Willoughby. I met him working out at a local field and he was very friendly and respectful. After he was drafted he came back to speak at the schools to encourage working hard/following your dream. During his rookie season he came back for one South high game with his mom. He was very gracious, talked to everyone, signed every autograph and stayed the entire game. This season when the chiefs played the Browns he bought tickets for the entire South team, probably came to a game but I only attended one. There's no excuse for his behavior towards that girl, but he also wasn't trying to beat the crap out of her. To label him as some habitually angry, violent, man is unfair from what I know. He's a kid from a bad past who needs to get his head straight and I believe he will. I do think LeSean is washed up and Kareem would be a great back up plan, but this is an RB and may not be worth the risk. Just my 0.02
  21. I don't think so. All in the Family focused on prejudices, stereotypes, and discrimination. Nowadays it all gets lumped together as racism. Back then the focus was on the behavior being bad but the person having a good side also. Now such people are simply pure evil. Back then the emphasis was on trying to enlighten the small minded person, now it only matters that some unknown recipient might be mortally offended. No way would it fly. You have a good point about South Park except that All in TF tried portray real life and South Park only fleetingly intersects it! I also don't think people under 30 can relate to an Archie Bunker type any more.
  22. Working the kids too hard and being abusive are two different things.
  23. If memory serves, Derrick Dockery, Langston Walker, and Melvin freaking Fowler were all getting paid more than Peters. Some time later, there was an article mentioning that Dockery was caught watching Redskins game film in the Bills film room. I didn't like that Peters mailed it in his last season, but Jesus FC that O-line was dreadful and our by-far best linemen was one of the worst paid and also being disrespected by an incompetent organization. In the end, I can't fault the guy for forcing his way out.
  24. People make way too much out of the participation trophies and no scorekeeping. My daughter's 16, son 12 and I've coached a good number of their teams. It's all done at a young age and goes away before or at latest by teenage years. It's done to keep the game fun, encourage development of every kid, and to stave off the nutty hyper-competitive parents. There's nothing worse then parents who want little Johnny or Suzie to be a bloodthirsty winner at any cost by age 8. Competitiveness? Youth sports is as much a business as anything else these days. If your kid is super passionate and/or super talented there are elite and premier clubs that you can pay thousands of dollars and travel across the country to compete at a sport. Parents change their job situation so they can have 3 day weekends because of all the travel. Anyone worried youth sports aren't competitive enough need not be. If your kid is in that situation you can progressively open your wallet until you find the right situation.
  25. I agree with ya, best thing was they didn't have to bench him which can create additional issues.
