You're right, Mahomes is not a valid argument to try and make and isn't important to my point, my apologies. I'm also not suggesting we move up to #10 to get a receiver. My point is that the Bills can find talent at the back of the first and into the second round if they put the effort in, which may include moving up 5-10 spots or so. So the "we're drafting at the end of rounds, woe is us" doesn't hold much water for me at this point. We have Josh Allen. You seem to be missing the fundamental point that if the Bills want to win a Superbowl they need to use better resources on receivers and the front seven on defense. Get the proper scouting system in, it doesn't have to be trading way up to grab a guy. 8 years in and the scouts and/or Beane blew the Coleman pick so badly? It shouldn't happen at this point, that high in the draft. What a wasted resource. That's why we can't make it to the Superbowl. You can quote regular season statistics and if that's adequate for you, no problem. We do well in the regular season. The playoffs are the thing, I don't believe this year's receiving statistics will translate to a Superbowl, so we can agree to disagree and see. And if there was a game changing DE or LB that fell to number 10, I would absolutely mortgage picks to move up and get him. We sorely need one. JMO of course.

Just a few examples: late first to third round All-pro or emerging receivers: 2019 DK Metcalf(2nd, #64) 2020. Brandon Aiyuk(1st, #25) 2021 Nico Collins (third, #89) 2022 George Pickens (2nd, #52) 2023 Zay Flowers (1st, 22) Trying to say you have to pick top 10 is garbage. Sure does help, but know what you need, have the right scouts and system in place, and top 10 is not necessary once you have Josh Allen. I'm tired of the late route picking excuse. We are an established winning franchise. Some years, yes, you need extra picks because of roster turnover. Other years you trade away picks to move up and get that one difference maker. Like the Chiefs did in the 2017 draft when they moved to 10 from 27. Shaw, you talk about Elam and Coleman, and rightly so. Neither one has the brainpower, Coleman doesn't have the speed and Elam just wasn't a good fit for our system. That's a failure of our evaluation system. Hopefully they fix that. Get the people in who can get it right. Honestly, Coleman feels like they just picked him because Josh liked him, lol.

That's great for building a strong regular season team and culture, but we need to draft guys willing to step up and be difference makers in the playoffs. That's where we are at and Beane has to make the drafting shift. Seems like he's starting to tune into it with this year's draft, but he needed to shift 2-4 years ago. WRT salary concerns, that even more favors the first contract salary discounts through drafting.
-
To be honest, at this point with the team we have, I favor trading up to get that player you really want and believe can be a difference maker. It was one thing when we were building our team (and Beane has traded back many times), but now we need game changers. Most DL need 2-3 years to develop so it's too early with Sanders.
-
Don't forget the division titles and playoff games won, lol!
-
It's a difficulty, but good GMs find a way to ID those players and get it done. He's had 8 drafts + McDermott in 2017.
-
To be fair, it's a bit of both, but his hand was tilted by repeated failures with DL for one. McDermott doesn't help with players needing to fit the system instead of the opposite and his conservative defensive approach. I think next year will really be a golden chance. Bring Bosa and Hoecht back, heal the DL. Walker and Sanders year 2, safety and DB solidified and developing, OL solid, TE's great, prime Cook. Beane really just needs to focus on getting that receiver and shoring up LB. Also, Mahomes' run may be slowly winding down and if Kelce comes back he is more a solid option instead of a game changer. For me this year, Mahomes has lost a bit of elite with his ball placement and arm strength but we will see.

Good point, but did Beane purposefully design it this way or is it because he fails to draft game changing talent and this is what we're left with?

SNF - Houston @ KC Game thread (the Bills lamp is lit)
GaryPinC replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, don't forget about that pass in the flat on Hunt's back shoulder, also. Those are super-hard to catch on a full run. Mahomes deep ball floated short on him too. Definitely seems like he's losing a bit of his edge. -
I listened to some of it. For me, the point isn't whether what he was saying is true. The guy sounds like a football position coach, lots of profanity and talking out his *ss half the time. Not a good look for an AD representing all the athletic programs at PSU. He seems unprofessional, not a fan and it helps show why this coaching search was such a mess. I'd be happy if they flush him sometime soon, despite the unsettling effect.

Congratulations on the wins and being there to witness history! That was an amazing game. That late third and 6 play to capture their last first down tells you everything you need to know about the IU coaching staff. OSU takes the loss on an unfortunate kick but gets valuable experience if they meet again. Great stuff!
-
Yeah, Haines is really good. He'll be moving on after next season. Saw a game earlier this year and he was so creative with his stunting and blitzes. Great game, still think the Bucks win it but they'll have to earn it! Happy for IU, they've been some form of terrible my whole life.
-
Good luck tonight, that's a real tall order! I'm looking forward to seeing what Bryant Haines has cooked up on D. I've been impressed with his coaching.
-
Sure, but buffoons are going to buffoon. There's multiple layers here, which makes it more damning. You can't hide the buffoon, so let's hope he wisens up or gets dealt with

What do you mean by Campbell being much better on 11/24 compared to 12/5? Great points and I pretty much agree with you, going with Allar again was a big problem for me. He's just another Hackenberg, just doesn't process the game at a higher level. Hopefully Campbell recruits QB's better. Re Smith: they said the same thing about Larry Johnson, so I never assume. But yeah, if he stays he can smooth things back over.
-
Lol, you're a better man than I am Yolo being able to even make that joke after that abortion of a game plan against Michigam last year. I do think it was the catalyst Day needed to really nail down the head coaching subtleties for good. Really amazing considering he had zero head coaching experience when he got this job.
-
Yeah, he's solid, I'm disappointed in his overall bowl record but he has done great work to make Iowa State strong. I still preferred Chesney. According to this source he had a great interview at PSU but they were stringing him along as a second tier choice. https://247sports.com/college/ucla/article/ucla-football-bob-chesney-penn-state-kalani-sitake-264604527/ So there's the even bigger problem of AD Kraft. Firing Franklin mid-season, he deserved to play it out. Plus, you can take more time on your coaching search. Pissed off super-agent Sexton, Heupel's comments were very telling about the outside perception. Then your team members and Micah are making open threats if Smith isn't given the job. No part of Smith's resume indicates head coach material, so that's the only thing Kraft got right. But, Campell is somewhat forced to retain Smith as a coach. I would rather they sign Campbell to 6 years at the higher salary but sounds like they will have to go 8 because of this whole mess. Yeah. Embarrassing, Kraft. But so-long, Franklin. I think VT is a better school fit for him anyways.

They had a great season last year. I just don't know if the mystique of the program's history and independence still registers as strongly as last century. Seems fans really identify more with conferences now. Too bad their matchups with Michigan went away, those were some amazing games.
-
John Cooper was an early version of James Franklin, only he was a better recruiter. 3-8 in bowl games, 2-10-1 vs Michigan, a host of disciplinary problems within the program. Fired because the program was disintegrating from all the problems within the team. Couldn't coach the big game, he wasted a lot of great talent Yes, they were considered a football powerhouse until late in the season. But I wasn't judging them by their ability to be one of the better teams in the country. I was judging them by their lack of character and ability to finish big games. Jim Trestle turned that all around, coupled with continued top tier recruiting, and locked them into the path they continue to enjoy. Sadly for Michigan, I think OSU has eclipsed them in the character department.

Then there's the fact that Trump was much more closely tied to Epstein then he officially lets on, which is the point of my quote. Trump has owned Mar a Lago since 1985. Many of the victims mention Epstein model parties at Mar a Lago, where Trump wasn't present but it was his place. I don't know Trump’s role, I don't think he was into the teenage thing, but it appears he had knowledge and a direct enabling role in Epstein's schemes. There's only one clown in this conversation. Who enjoys loudly blowing his goofy horn as he attempts to drown out honest discussion.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/14/teen-models-powerful-men-when-donald-trump-hosted-look-of-the-year George Houraney, a businessman whose American Dream Calendar Girls beauty contest had been running in Las Vegas casinos since 1978, recalls encountering Epstein at Mar-a-Lago in January 1993. Houraney says that Trump asked him to organise a party that month with some of his pageant’s finalists, promising to invite heads of modelling agencies and prospective sponsors for his competition. “He had me fly in all these girls, and gave me a $30,000 budget for airfares and limos to pick them up at the airport,” he says. “The girls were all decked out, expecting to meet all these VIPs.” But after an hour at the party, Houraney says, there seemed to be only one other guest: Epstein. “I was like, ‘Donald, where are the guys? What’s going on here?’ And he said, ‘Well, this is it.’” Houraney says he realised “this is a Jeff Epstein party, basically”.

Ex Brown QB Bernie Kosar to undergo Liver Transplant tomorrow.
GaryPinC replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Godspeed Bernie! I've yet to run into him, but I live between his farm and business location in Chagrin Falls. My son said hi to him at a local restaurant. Very friendly and gracious, though that's no surprise to anyone who had even a fan's exposure on TV. Always a class act, including while he played, so tragic his struggles with substance abuse but seems in a good place now.
