Sometimes I wonder how much of these early depth charts are real and how much is messaging. Maybe coaches bump a guy up higher than he belongs to show him that he's noticed and appreciated. Maybe sometimes they bump a guy down to send the message that he needs to put forth more effort and/or better learn the playbook.

Damn that last one hit me in the feels. Sad stuff

1st year stats for Cook and Davis are almost the same. Can Ray improve as quickly as Cook? On this team, why not? Let Cook sit or come back without an attitude. His first year attitude was not impressive. struck me as kinda dumb. His agent and brother will ultimately decide.

Two points. I didn't listen to the podcast, I just read the short article so I don't know what Simms said. Did he actually say Cook has leverage or did the headline just say that he said that? Simms didn't write the headline. Secondly, once the season starts, Cook holds some leverage but still not that much. Of course he can withhold his services which affects the Bills if Johnson, Davis, and whoever they call up in Cook's absence don't do very well. Back in the 90s, Emmitt Smith held out on the Cowgirls for two games. When they lost both, Jerry signed him. However, Cook would get hefty fines and if he doesn't show up by a certain date (too lazy to look up which game number), he doesn't earn a year of eligibility so he wouldn't be a free agent next year. From my perspective, the Bills hold most of the leverage.

After Jacobs, those players all have a top 66 pick rookie contract player waiting in the wings (or starting) except for broken down 29 year old Joe Mixon. Will probably require that level of investment to replace Cook next year at least.

I’m loving the draft already. Per joe B on ny times Rd 1 pick - definitely not starting, even if not injured. Prob only plays if tre or cb hurt rd 2 -second line rotation. Makes an impact rd 3 - I’ve heard nothing about. Sounds like a Trent Murphy/AJE clone. Maybe doesn’t even dress rd 4 - not gonna dress if everyone healthy rd 5 - backup Swiss army db rd 6 - limited snaps / niche blocking TE color me IMPRESSED McBEANE! 3-4 of these dudes need to develop over the course of the season and have an impact or we’re not sniffing Mahommes and the bowl
