I was praying Starks would fall to us in the First because I know how dependent our defense has been on Safety. Not convinced they would draft him because of perceived value but man I would have loved him to be a Bill. Not sure any other Safety was mildly exciting. I'm curious as to why they didn't go and get someone else other than Forrest at that position. -

Exactly. I worked in DC a long time ago (started under Bush 41, ended under Clinton's 2nd term). So I've seen these predictions come and go. There was "The Coming Republican Majority" thing under Reagan/Bush 41. Then Clinton won (with some thanks to Ross Perot). Then it was a golden age of centrist Democrats coming. Then Bush 43 won (with some thanks to Ralph Nader and Florida senior citizens), and it was the new kinder/gentler Republican Age with lots of "what will Democrats do now" thinking. Then it was Obama and Republicans In Disarray. Then it was Trump's New Coalition and Dems in Disarray. Then it was Trump Has Taken the Republicans Down a Political Dead End and the desire for a return to normalcy. Then it was The Revenge of Trumpism and Biden/Kamala Have Taken Democrats Down a Dead End and the end of (non-white/non-LGBTQ) identity politics. American political coalitions shift all the time. What won in 2012 doesn't win in 2028. What won in 2024 may not win in 2028. "The party in power is always smug and arrogant; the party out of power is always insane." -

Who is our worst match up in the AFC as of now?
Big Blitz replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is what happened to the Chiefs first pick Josh Simmons. People are saying they had a great draft. I just disagree. If the Bills needed a OT to protect Allen I’d be furious if we spent a 1st round pick on one with this injury. I feel terrible for the guy. And Casas. I’m a Yankee fan still hate injuries I don’t want to see anyone get hurt. If you want to draft him in the 3rd or 4th. Sure. -

Cincinnati scare the ***** out of me. They dont waste plays running the ball. They are all gas no brakes and their receivers can destroy our dbs. If our pass rush dont get home- we toast -

It is the Chiefs until we beat them, or they slide enough to no longer be a factor. The Ravens may be the “better team” now, but the answer is still the Chiefs. -

Oh no, not the Aussies too! Trump is doing a wonderful job at bringing that pro-American coalition together. And this one didn't even need a 52nd state threat. -

I think Hamlin is out. Too slow. Good chance that Hancock beats Lewis for slot/safety double duty backup. Hardy is a dark horse here. He’s a better slot cover guy than most people think. If he can show he makes better decisions in punt return game, he might take Codringtons place. -

I think this guys is gonna be a beast. He’ll be our best pick of this draft -
Hey! I just watched a documentary about this!
-
That is easy - it was originally put into place to help balance teams rosters with injuries. Team A has 4 guys injured, but not on IR - which used to be for the season - and Team B was healthy - then the healthy team would have 4 additional rostered players to play. By limiting the 53 - it allowed both teams to have 48 rostered healthy players to keep balance and allow the injured players to sit. Team A could sit 4 injured players and a Healy guy, while team B had to sit 5 healthy guys, but now both teams have the same number that can play with no advantages and no one forcing an injured player to dress - just in case. It does need to be re-evaluated with the practice squad call-ups and the ability to use of returning IR in season.

Lamar Jackson isn’t very good in the playoffs, and that’s been the difference. The Ravens would have beat us in the playoffs if Jackson didn’t hand us the game. I think that’s why it looks bad on paper, but we succeed in real life. Mahomes always shows up against us unlike Jackson. -
That’s where draft value matters imo. Theres a lot of talk about how Detroit drafting Gibbs and Campbell in the first round years ago proved draft value is for nerds. But the wheel of the NFL never stops pounding. Gibbs is a great player and Campbell is fine. But if you prioritize shorter term moves (which is fine), you pay for it in the long-term. It would not surprise me to see the Lions be an 8 win team.

You weren't worried about WR last offseason either. Then Baltimore and Houston happened. The latter being one of the worst performances by an NFL QB this century. Because of insufficient quality at WR. So you were proven wrong. Beane had to burn a precious 3rd round pick to address it with a player coming off a 1200 yard season that teams had to respect as a deep threat. And they subsequently produced a full TD more per game after that. (As Beane is proud to note) That's the difference between being the 2nd highest scoring offense and finishing 11th(Arizona). And for further perspective on what that kind of disparity means........the Bills ranked 11th in defensive DVOA last season and the prevailing sentiment among fans and local/national media is that they were bad defensively.
