Who’s your defensive surprise of the year?
BearNorth replied to Billsfed1's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm hoping Terrel Bernard - He missed a lot of tackles, wasn't stellar when he had to cover, and was graded in the bottom 10% of LB's. -
I am in the been there done that crowd... did not like his last year here in terms of being that true 2... maybe because he was injured... Bills didnt think he warranted that money... Jags did... off he goes... did not see anything last year with Jags to make me think his last year with the Bills was an aberration... maybe because he was injured... I just don't see how revisiting Gabe changes what I have seen in the past two years... that said... they bring him back on a Super low prove it deal to compete... almost like they did Tre... I am certainly not going to complain... I am nostalgic to a fault... just a fault of mine... maybe he works out maybe he doesnt.. but the thought of committing even solid money to him as a player... I am not sure you get the juice out of that squeeze, I would look to deploy that cash capital elsewhere because I dont think he changes you WR room a ton... he certainly isnt the speedster I think he is more in the Shakir mold... maybe with a bit of Coleman down field with contested catches... Bottom line I am not rooting for this... but for the right money sure give him a kick at it and see what happens... but I wouldnt wrap up guaranteed money... so, I think this means if you do get him he will test the market a bit and if he is not getting bites he may be back..

Gabe Davis just stinks. Adding him does nothing to improve this team. I don't care how inexpensive he would be.

Let’s list the pros and cons of a new thread in a new thread
-
This whole thing reminds me of the first Captain America movie where skinny Steve jumps on the dummy grenade and afterwards Tommy Lee Jones' character says, "He's still skinny." That'll be OP after Kincaid catches a game winning TD this season.
-
I bet you nothing of consequence changes.
-
To me he would be more of the same. Every WR after Shakir is a shoulder shrug imo, the potential is there but so far there is nothing special although I give Keon more runway due to being a rookie. Davis had that amazing game in 13 seconds and instead of embracing big play Gabe he became some times he’ll catch it Gabe and was a mediocre option for us but if he signs for cheap he could beat out a few of those guys most likely.

Is there an NFL team with a weaker WR group than the Bills?
BearNorth replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Someone in the pro scouting dept must be on a pretty short leash with that recommendation. -
I think it’s the speed and the fact that Moore has played for bad teams with bad QBs. Palmer was playing with Justin Herbert. Moore can do something the Bills have been missing, which is consistently getting to the third level. His ability to do that will open up the field. Which means everyone gets to eat more. This offense could be really dangerous.
-
I like your thinking. You start one for the pros. I'll follow up with a cons.
-
We definitely need a couple of burner identities here. 'Jeremy' and 'Sneaky Joe' should work.
-
Do we really need to resign the 117th [of 125] ranked wideout in the league last year? Even his run-blocking which he was praised for was less than stellar last season.
-
Cook is a tough prospect for armchair GMs, because he's clearly a tier below the truly elite guys, which last year was Barkley & Henry, but he's also good enough that he's very hard to replace. Contrast that with Singletary, who was (and is) a good NFL RB, but ultimately doesn't give you much more than a guy off the street. A lot of those runs where Cook got into the secondary untouched weren't just due to the O-line. It was also Cook using his vision to pick the right hole, then using his elite acceleration to burst through before the defense could get there. We've seen a ton of outside runs the last couple years where Cook just turned on the jets and was able to turn the corner on the edge defender. They didn't all go for long runs, but every one of those was a significant swing for the Bills. Turning a potential -1 to 1 yard play into a 7 yard play makes a big difference, especially when it keeps going our way over and over. In summary, I would love to have Cook back beyond this year. I'm also weary of paying money to any RB, and extra weary of paying Cook elite money when he's been a step shy of elite. I'm hoping that he balls out this year, and either we re-sign him longterm, or we get some real compensation for him in like a tag-and-trade scenario. (By which I mean something better than a 3rd-round comp pick in 2027.)
-
Yes, exactly. $15m a year for a two-down RB is not manageable.
-
He raises the floor. Potential will have to meet production for the room to keep him off the field. That happens it’s a win for the team. Someone doesnt or an injury happens he slides right in a win for the team.

It's not about that chart it's about getting what we want from them. They have to buy more X from us and do other things that we are not privy to. They need to beef up military, they are way behind on what they should be spending. They have to do whatever we tell them and apparently they bent the knee already
-
Isn't that true for any player that we want?
-
This is very cool and impressive. The architecture of Buffalo is severely underrated by those who are not aware
-
Wait. So do you want him or not? I mean, your original post reads kind of as if you do, but also that you don't? Now this post states you do? I'm now confused. And you don't bring people in that have consistent miscommunication with your QB after 4 years of playing with said QB

Problem is the Bills in order to accommodate signing DK would have not only had to have given up a 2nd plus a late pick at minimum would also likely not have been able to sign many if any significant defensive free agents. I get that the Bills wouldn't have signed Palmer but he's only accounting for about 27.5% of what DK is making, probably wouldn't have been able to manage the Bosa or Hoecht signings as an example.
