Beane and former Bills

It’s both coaching and talent. The team has incessantly invested in Defense over the McD Beane era and it has never been a D that can dominate a meaningful game or stretch of games in the clutch part of any season. It has been on the back of their QB that they’ve won. So when a team invests so heavily in some aspect of its team and the results don’t change much there is a severe flaw in the organization and that’s not even getting into the offensive regression, which is more concerning, because we know the talent they have at QB1 and RB1. McD talks about growing and learning all the time but they have not learned that the D they play is never going to be dominant. They haven’t learned that small, undersized LBs are how you stop quick teams but also how you get pummeled by physical ones. This has been an issue since the Bills hired McD - see Titans under Vrabel. The complexity in the backend doesn’t allow the players to be aggressive and the results of people who know the system well enough to start doesn’t lead to some amazing result. So for what use is the complexity? To give up 3rd and longs on the regular? This team has never gotten after the QB on the regular no matter what they invest in it and certainly not with hand picked, home grown guys. It’s pretty clear that this is going to come in better and worse variations as we’ve seen over the years but at its core it’s still the same flaws.

Yes of course. We should mortgage the future for more defensive players. McDermott doesn't focus enough on offense, and why should he? After all, our receivers are world class and our OL is young. Josh getting help should be an afterthought.

It makes sense as the Steelers as always start falling apart around this time of the year. I can’t tell you how many acquaintance friends I have at the gym or favorite sports bars, and to a person love their team, and universally are begging Mr. Rooney to fire Tomlin. It just seems from the outside his voice is like noise as in the teacher from Charlie Brown.

We tend to play well after losses. I think we win this one.

Chip Kelly did fine at Oregon, but he’s just not an NFL coach. What works in college doesn't work in the NFL. As far as Carroll, he’s taking over a mess, and a mismanaged organization. He can get it together, but needs three years. He went to back to back SBs with the Seahawks, and the National Championship with USC. He’s one of the few that can do it in college and the pros. He’s getting long in the tooth, but he made a bad hire in Kelly.

He actually kept the backs in a fair amount, and the TEs were chipping. The problem is that the Texans stayed in man coverage all night and the guys responsible for our backs and TEs utilized that freedom to create simulated pressure, delayed blitzes, and spy Allen when they stayed in. Brady had no answer for that. There was no effective scheme adjustment, and no one on offense was reliably winning their 1v1’s.

Big game with playoff like implications for this one.

I've been pretty confident but now quite worried. A lot is going to depend on this steelers game. Chiefs will make it i think I obviously want to get in but wonder if we might need to miss out to make ownership change things

I don't think they stand a chance to get into the playoffs honestly.... they just aren't good enough. The GM and the HC seem to be the two biggest weak links.

The point is Bosa is very, very clearly more effective when playing with 2 hands, which is to be expected. If it’s a situation where he can’t make anything worse by playing on it, that’s one thing, but I certainly hope that is the case. Otherwise, it would be silly not to let him sit out a bit, recover and return to the lineup able to contribute on the level he did up to the Chiefs game. Some of you act like this team has never made a poor decision before. We saw plenty of bad decisions by coaching in the Texans game alone. They’re “professionals” too. I guess we give our medical staff the benefit of the doubt. Poor judgement is a thing, even from professionals.

I don’t understand why Solomon doesn’t get more chances. He seems to show great speed and pressure when given opportunities.

This is kind of silly. In the time he's been playing for Buffalo only 1 NFL team has won more games than he has.

It’s so frustrating Groot hasn’t developed into that premier pass rusher. It’s sad that we have relied on old timers like Von Miller and Joey Bosa to improve our pass rush.

John Middlekauff, former NFL scout, speaking in generalities on his podcast tonite, said “I can scheme guys open. Great offensive coordinators have made random guys look good on offense.” I would add that shouldn’t that be a required skill for any OC hired anywhere?! Since the NFL is a copycat league, why aren’t successful route groupings and concepts on display every week from other teams…being adopted here? Greg Cosell said ours are “elementary”.

I’m skeptical of any WR in the FA market. Teams do what they can to keep good WR’s. Idk what the WR class looks like in the draft but whoever the top guy is. Beane needs to do whatever he can to get em. I know Keon Coleman is in the doghouse right now but i still think it’s too early to give up on him. You gotta spend the rest of the season to see what you have so you can figure out the best way to move forward. Hopefully this lil 2 game punishment will wake him up. Now that Gabe Davis is back. Maybe Coleman can start working more inside

I went to the game. Second game this season (Miami was the other) and 5th game in a row I go to which we lose (last game last year was the AFC championship). I am beginning to think it's me (global record is 4 - 15). Maybe I just shouldn't go to any more games.
