Why are we so late to adjust defensively?
dakarider17 replied to Ramza86's topic in The Stadium Wall
Can only do so much to cover up for a non existent pass rush. Bills have to get healthier on the defensive line if they want to succeed in the playoffs. -
Most years in most divisions the difference between first place and second place is only a game or two, sometimes coming down to the final weekend of the regular season. What changes when the Patriots win the division is that they will face three games against teams that finished first in their own divisions. In theory those three opponents are stronger than the teams that a second place finisher would face. It is not the end of the world, but it also should not be ignored. This is exactly why the NFL designs schedules the way it does, to create more parity and to reward or challenge teams based on their previous year’s performance. This week’s game is going to be a great matchup and either team can win. But if we are being honest, if the Bills play a clean, mistake free game and if Josh Allen plays like he did against the Bengals, the Bills should win. That is why Vegas has the Bills favored even on the road in the Patriots stadium.

If New England wins (Next Week), they officially win the East.

I remember buying a 2020 AFC East championship hat back then because it was new to us. I wore it once. I look at it now and question why I bought it. -
I ain't doing none of that until it's 0.0% chance they make it.

I was going to say for all the good that we did. We had to put ourselves back in that position again with letting Burrows score within 30 seconds and four plays Trey White is not very good. I guess we don’t have anyone else, but anytime you take Harriston off the field for white, is a mistake. Add corner back and safety to the linebacker needs his team has to address in this next draft.

There isn't any reason for anyone to "apologize". Benford was bad thru 11 games. The eyeball test showed his coverage wasn't good, the physicality wasn't there and statistically he had an abysmal 110-115 passer rating when targeted. The argument that he wasn't bad was just that he hadn't given up a lot of yards in recent weeks.......but the Bills haven't given up yards in the air all season. They were #1 in the NFL in that regard but we all know they are not the most dominant coverage unit by any stretch. I suspected Benford rung his bell again very early in the season and was playing tentatively. The Benford criticism is different that the Rousseau criticism because the tape shows Rousseau doing his job well. The tape wasn't kind to Benford (or Bernard). Hopefully Shaq Thompson manages to stay healthy for at least a couple more weeks so Bernard can be healthy when he returns to the lineup. And then maybe he starts making plays again too. I will say though.......one of the more frustrating defensive plays of the game involved Benford and took place after the Bills called that defensive timeout with the Bengals at 3rd and 4. The Bengals split the back out wide and Benford came off of Jamar Chase and took a couple strides out wider to cover the back and Cam Lewis dropped down on Chase. That lead to an easy pitch and catch conversion to Chase. And it wasn't a bang-bang switch.......it was a failure in slo-mo. Benford has to identify what they are doing there and not leave the All Pro for Lewis to cover.

I see it referenced above and yes, when McDermott started calling the D it was vasty improved. You could see when he took it over because he had the play sheet. That's when things changed. It happened in a few other games like Atlanta. If you recall the difference between first and second halves there. Why is Babich even still around? -
splain...if there are 50 spots for 100 male applicants, and 50 spots for 200 female applicants, who has better odds under DEI.? without DEI, there are 100 spots for 300 applicants , regardless of gender (numbers are for illustrative purposes, not precision). male odds decrease, female odds increase with elimination of DEI.

Does this mean no more nationally televised TV games and no Taylor Swift ? I will miss the drum beating too!

And was a shell of his former self, was constantly plagued by head and neck injuries and retired due to those reasons just a year later. I'd bet a significant amount of money his doctor told him to retire and he tried to tough it out for a chance at a chip.

Watch the defense when McD has the clipboard or D game sheet and when he doesn't. This will explain it all.

They held Ja'Marr Chase to 5 catches for 44 yards. Yes, Higgins had a big day. But any Chase catch is a TD waiting to happen. Keeping the ball out of his hands had to be a major part of the game plan, and they accomplished that. It's something that isn't getting talked about, but Benford did a masterful job, and he won't have a tougher assignment moving forward. -
What the hell kind of Mass-hole talks like that? Is their a hidden contingent of Pats fans in South Carolina?

LOL - without WHO????? gimme a break see you sunday after you get your arse handed to ya Yes - this. We controlled the whole game vs the Puts in the first game. We lost that game because we were not prepared, injured, and TO x 3. This game will be much, much different. We are getting healthy, starting to pound on D and our O looks unstoppable as it should. I can't wait! Gonna be a wingdinger of a game where the Bills win and send a message.

Anyone ever played competitive sports should know this. When you face someone or a team with the same casts you have beaten before vs someone you have never done it carries a very different psyche. This is not a one-off kind of situation like you are facing a Daniel Jones who happens to have a super year. This is a Joe Burrow who is a top 3 QB in the league when healthy and his offensive weapons that are going to be there for the foreseeable time Allen and the Bills are in contention.

He started 14 games a year later fwiw

And how did that end up for Hyde?
-
PFF has been saying this much of this year. they have him ranked 7th among interior DL.

Is Babich still calling some plays? I thought when he let up 330 in the first half against Penix that was the end of it. -
My pet peeve "Opposing fan coming in peace!" polluting all the game discussion on a Bills board telling Bills fans why they are wrong
