It is extremely common practice in the NFL for players outplaying their rookie contracts to get new contracts, extensions. In fact, when that happens it seems to be done consistently. It is expected to happen. Teams don't know what exactly they are getting until the new player shows up on the field. This sometimes makes the rookie first contract not representative of the player's value. That is clearly the case with Cook, so he expects a big raise, playing like a game changing starting back, who can run and catch with the best backs in the league.
