You would have a good point if it were clear that the goal of the Trump tariff game theory is to get to a point of true free trade. But that isn't it at all. The administration has clearly restated an old/discredited mercantilist theory of tariffs, and has also pointed to tariff revenues replacing income tax revenues. So ... no.

The Bills thru the eyes of an Eagles fan site SB Nation is the parent organization of Buffalo Rumblings, a web site cited from time to time here at TBD. They have fan run sites for all NFL teams. This is an article looking at the Bills, one of the Eagles' opponents in the 2025 season. I thought it was interesting. Essentially, they believe that Buffalo did precious little to change the team after yet again failing to surpass the Chiefs in the playoffs. The is a reference to the old adage about the definition of insanity "doing the same thing over and expecting different results. No mentioned by name, the article says Buffalo brought in old injured veterans (Tre White, and Joe Bosa) and "warm bodies" (Josh Palmer and Isaiah Moore?) at WR. No mention is made of Buffalo's focus on defense in the draft. So, are the authors right - Buffalo is destined for another playoff run that will again fall short, or are they underestimating the potential effect that newcomers could have on the team?

Your point leaned heavily toward “just pay the girl” and move on, without a second glance. I just don’t know enough to accept that, even if you are trying to couch your position with “assumptions”. We don’t know either of these people. My Father-in-law was a dentist forever in a small town. Not long before his retirement he had the first malpractice claim of his life filed against him. It was from a poor old lady who he had been caring for for decades. He did nothing wrong, and everybody knew it. The insurance company insisted that they had never had a claim from him before, so they were just going to settle. Because it was the easiest thing to do. He never got over that. I think both parties present at the time believe their version of events. I do not think either of them are “lying”, it’s just different perspectives. It’s very personal to them, and I’ll step back and hope they can both find a comfortable place to move on from.

Awesome! I listened to some of those bands but your taste was just a bit more hardcore than mine. Our go-to was Kerrang! magazine and a local record shop (The Wax Museum) that catered exclusively to metal. I first read about Metallica in a free 'publication' that I picked up there. It was black and white, maybe 5-10 pages long and I think it was written and printed by Jon Zazula - probably in his basement. In his write up he said something to the effect that he had seen Metallica before, wasn't planning on watching the band up close but then they hit the stage and he realized 'this is not a band that you turn your back on'. That quote stuck with me and was the main reason me and my friend went (they were opening for Raven on the Kill Em All For One tour) - the other reason was we got kicked out of a campsite (and nearly arrested) the night before. I honestly don't remember what I did with most of my record collection, but I think I downsized during a move too. I kept a milk crate's worth either because I loved the cover (i.e Y&T's Mean Streak), it had sentimental value or it was Zappa/Mothers album (probably 15-20). But I haven't had anything to play them on for years. One of my other cool stories is that my father used to be a bit of an audiophile. He'd take me to stereo shows in NYC when I was young and made sure I had a decent setup. He was big on JBL and my first set of speakers were JBL 4311's. I have a Zappa album where the liner notes say that the album was intended to be played on 4311's. Good times. Anyway, I appreciate your and others contributions here. I get to discover new bands or in this case re-discover music I drifted away from. I'll end by noting that one band I've been diving into lately based on your recommendation is Kyuss!

Saw Josh's commercial on the TV today. It's still kind of weird Buffalo has a QB good enough to be asked without a ring. Call me nostalgic, but our last star QB to make a commercial to remember was Jim Kelly for Wegmans. His line of eat those Wedgeables, eat those Wedgeables 😀 I think it was strive for 5 if I remember correctly.

There's nothing to talk about. We've had all of the conversations about receivers, about Cook, about the defense, about not winning the Super Bowl, about just about everything. Since there's nothing left to talk about, I find myself thinking about how amazingly good this football team has gotten. I say it often; when McDermott and Beane got here, they said they were going to build a team that keeps getting better and better, and that is what they've done. I've been thinking since I saw the thread about the Bills being the favorite, at least clearly in the top three, to make it to the Super Bowl. We can argue about whether we agree or not, but the reality is that among the bookmakers and bettors, there is a clear consensus that the Bills are at the very top of the league. And it's a bigger consensus than it was a year ago and two years ago. Granted, everyone thought the Bills would have a down season last year, but their success last season has convinced many people outside of western New York that the Bills were genuinely good last season and only got better in the off-season. And it's not simply because the Bills have Allen and because he's just that good. Put aside that Beane did a masterful job identifying Allen as the talent he is and then managing the draft to be able to get him; people around the country are recognizing that the other 21 starters, and the bench, make this a seriously good football team. And the Bills are set up to get better in the 2026 season, with the QB under contract, the salary cap getting back in order, and the opportunity to add more young talent in the draft. Everyone is looking at the Bills as a model franchise. Everyone thinks it's when, not if, the Bills win the Lombardi. Hats off to McDermott and Beane. Now, '25, '26 '27, is the time complete the climb to the top.
