Will gambling ruin the NFL and sports in general?
Augie replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t see it ever becoming a “league problem”, but I think they are susceptible to individuals like Tim Donaghy, the NBA ref who got caught. I don’t ever see the whole thing being rigged, but individuals are another story and much harder to control. Individuals, refs and players, are where they could be vulnerable. Any scandal is going to lead to a lot of backlash the league wants no part of, but I don’t see how it’s totally avoidable. People are going to be people. . -

gambling can be a dangerous addiction. find it sad when you hear fan duel ad, followed by a gambling addiction number being spouted out for every state at warp speed. but hey....logan paul fights are legit....rights?! -
Anyone see this? What an insane story.

OK. The "busy time in the offseason" threw me off.

On the evidence part. this is what I found -- it is a small study of 500 Australian gamblers split into groups of those who gamble in game and those that don't. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7644858/#:~:text=Those who bet in-play,betting%2C holding other variables constant. They found those that bet in-played had more problem gambling issues. The study is certainly not definitive since their two groups were not from the same socio-economic background though they tried to account for those factors. Note also that in-game betting is not allowed in Australia so you have to do it via off-shore websites. -
Char Siu Pork Belly and Roasted Duck in Chinatown. Canal St and Bleeker and Village arent too far away. I love the East Village and Lower East Side- thats where I tend to hang. Walking that neighborhood is like Music History. Theres the old CBGB site. Theres the Physical Graffiti Album cover building, Theres where Sid OD'd. Theres where Jimi lived. Theres where Dylan started, ETC Katz's Deli for a ginormous Reuben! Its is oldest restaurant in NYC Its a tourist trap that is well worth it. Im not sure where else in the world that you get a better Pastrami or Corned Beef Sandwich

The Bandits sell out in the playoffs and almost sell out their 9 regular season home games. That's an arena of 19,000 It's not a lot of money in the big picture, but expenses are cheap so there is almost certainly a handsome profit margin. The Bandits make money instead of losing it. I'm not sure the same can be said of the Sabres with their half full arena.

My #1 NYC recomendation is early AM day drinking at McSorleys. The place is an institution. Oldest Bar in NYC, it was a Speak Easy during prohibition. Women were not allowed until the 70s. They serve 2 beers, light and dark. You order 2 at a time, and they are served in a steins. You can order cheese and crackers, and they give you a sleeve of Saltines. They have liverwurst too, and thats the menu. Its packed all day, all night. You sit community style at picnic tables, packed closely, with interesting people, locals and people from all over the world. Its a NYC museum packed with awesome photos and trinkets, such as Houdini's hand cuffs, and letters by Mayor LaGuaridia

I doubt gambling will ruin the NFL. I can see a scandal or two happening, but they will probably bring in some type of reform and all will move on. On the other hand, if CTE isn’t handled effectively, I can envision the elimination of the three point stance, and the NFL eventually becoming a flag football league. -
McDermott not in Top 10 of NFL coaches per PFF.
tomur67 replied to 14774's topic in The Stadium Wall
Unfortunately, he is being downgraded, because he has a super talented QB, an all around better than average total team package, and not taken the Bills to the super bowl. We know as Bill's fans a lot of things happened, reasons why they haven't made it to the big game, many of which were not McDermott's fault, but the head coach and the GM are always going take the blame.
