Thu, 27 Jul 2006 17:48:07 -0700

Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants CB Sam Madison and SS Gibril Wilson hit a deer on the New York State Thruway Wednesday, July 26. Madison's white Mercedes Benz suffered considerable damage, including a broken left headlight. Madison said, "He was running after I hit him. I wasn't stopping in the middle of the night. I feel for him. He looked pretty small. ;)

" The two ended up going off-course and found themselves in Boston, causing them to have to turn around and not arriving until three in the morning Thursday, July 27. ;)

Over here(Australia) it's a crime to hit an animal & not stop to see if it is alright.

Ooooh, it's dark & scary....better not stop because...well....it's night. ;)

If you hit a dog you should try and find the owner, but cats, rabbits, squirrels, and deer no way. What are you supposed to do give them CPR ;)

There is a very good chance they were intoxicated.

No, you go see if they are alive & take them to the nearest vet(most take them in free).

What's the difference between an injured cat family pet or an injured dog family pet.

That's just felinist.

It almost happened to me one time when I was riding with someone through the same area. They saw the signs for I-90 East and thought that was the way to get to Syracuse.

If the animal is laying in the middle of an interstate highway, I'm not going near it. I'm not getting run over just to see if Bambi still has a pulse!

The interchanges around Albany can get tricky.....I know exactly where they made a mistake.  87 is loaded with deer also.

But to wind up all the way in Boston?!?! I mean, jeez, didn't they recognize that they were in a different state?!?

Welcome to Massachusetts

You figured that with the $$ that they make, they would have their vehicle equipped with GPS.

You'd think the Mass Pike tolls might have given them a clue.

The difference in most cases is that a dog should have a license and collar. that and a cat is not nearly as important as a dog!

This is a prime example of how poorly kids do in geography these days - they didn't realize that Massachusetts is its own state, and actually a different state than NY.

That would take up room intended for the in-dash LCD satellite TV and DVD player. They were probably watching porno all the way to Boston.

There is no way you want to get close to an injured wild animal. I have seen injured deer on the side of the road and thought about helping. I usually have a gun on me and could easily put the animal down and end its suffering. The problem with that is it is against the law to fire a gun right next to a road. NY is always looking for ways to take your gun permit away and it is not worth the risk.

Actually you can fire a gun from the shoulder of the road, as long as the bullet does not pass over the road and you are 5 hundred feet from the nearest dwelling, unless you have the owners permission.

However you are correct, it is illegal for an individual to shoot a wounded animal. A law officer is supposed to do it, but I know a guy who was asked by an officer to shoot a deer that was hit by a car because he didn't want to fill out the paper work.

We had a rabid raccoon wandering the nieghborhood last year and attempted to get the police, rabies control, humane society, and troopers to come and take care of it. It was very obviously sick and did not attempt to run from anyone. I live in a developement with many children and pets. The troopers finally told us to shoot it and bury it. I had my 9mm on me at the time and we grabbed it in a fishing net and shot it behind one of the houses. I was sure that the police would come to get me for firing a gun in a nieghborhood. On a brighter note my nieghbors are much nicer to me now!

In Arizona, you must stop and check on ANY animal you hit, except the cat. You run down as many damn kitties as you want, but leave a dog on the side of the road and it's your arse....

They cut through Mass to avoid the horrible New York Traffic.

Or, with the left front headlight out, they couldn't see well

Or, the impact with the deer caused the GPS to malfunction

And of couse the deer kept running, thus removing the evidence or lack thereof............
