We are just moments away from someone earnestly arguing that losing a couple rotational DL players and rookies is worse than losing your starting QB. I can feel it.

Ravens don't have a worse injury situation right now. Madubuike is done for the year but otherwise everyone is back now and they are as healthy as they have been all season. But the first 8 weeks were rough for them. Not just Lamar but multiple other starters were down.

Here's what he basically said. Not a great listen as a Bills fan. They aren't one of the most talented teams in the league, they aren't that good overall from a talent perspective, they lack  play makers on both sides of the ball, very poor WR core and Kalir is more of a WR3, , have to scheme up offense, and rely on Josh being Superman which is hard to be sustainable and win like that. 

 

I know it's just one guys opinion but this guy really knows his football. Doesn't mean the Bills can't win it all. Nevertheless, this was pretty eye opening and deflating. What do you think? 

I think most of us already realized the team- except the offense has James Cook who is a legit superstar playmaker, and the defense has some emerging playmakers like Benford, Bosa, Bishop, Hairston, Thompson.  Of course Oliver and Milano are consistent playmakers when healthy. 

In other words, while I like much of how Cosell rates players and knows schemes he is a bit weak on this one and actually who cares- because we know this team is capable of winning it.

This roster is very flawed but I think people including the experts are becoming a bit melodramatic. We lack a playmaking wideout on the outside, and the defense has a lot of holes. I think the biggest issue is defense. We haven’t drafted well and start guys who should be backups. The offense has a good line, elite running backs, and two good tight ends. Maybe I’m missing something, but every NFL team has a lot of holes these days. That being said, our draft choices haven’t been great, especially the defense.

Josh Allen doesn't need to be Superman every game as the Bills have the #1 rushing team in the NFL and are currently #5 in points, #2 in yards. The defense is 14th in points allowed and #10 in yards allowed, and if you hadn't noticed, they are shutting down teams in the second half. The run defense has improved with Shaq Thompson starting. 

 

The New England Patriots just started getting hit with the injury bug, and because they played a 4th-place schedule is the reason as to why they are leading the division.

 

Hopefully, this team gets healthy going forward and keeps winning in the snow/cold. 

    As I said, any team! Even though not everyone is healthy!!!

My ask was, how does the Bills injury situation (a difference maker on D and a hoped-for D difference maker, plus another D starter on IR) compare to other teams that have managed to be in contention for playoffs.  To me that means leading the division or in position for a WC.

Chargers are contending.  I don't follow them that closely.  What starters or game changers they got on the IR or multi weeks on the injury report?

 

Bengals are out.  Colts - they're 3rd in their division, 2 games back, and also 2 games back from the 2 current wild card contenders.  They're not mathematically eliminated but unless they run the tables for Rivers here on out, doesn't look good.

I got to acknowledge the Ravens. At 7-7  I don't think of them as contending for the playoffs, but Dang!  if the Dolphins surprise the Steelers they're right there.
They're almost OK now with only Madubuike on IR, but they had it pretty bad with the injury report for a stretch there.  Worse than the Bills for reals.  I grant that.

Cook is a very very good player at perhaps the most devalued position in the league and comes off the field in many of the biggest moments. I think he’s electric but you’d trade him for JJ or Chase in a heartbeat at wr

 

oliver has good games but is not a truly elite DT. A good one but certainly not telling your kids you got to see him play. It’s possible to fill a top ten list at the position without him.
 

Benford is the closest to an elite player at a premium position but started the year cold. 
 

Kincaid is tied for 93rd in receptions currently. 
 

I’ll add bosa has potential for your list too…

 

but the theme would be getting these guys healthy and at their ceiling for a month straight and as much as I’m glad they are on our team that is still a hard bet to make. 

After this game (and others) I don’t see WHY Cook is considered anywhere below elite, or nearly that… dude is a Chris Johnson clone with the right blocking each week. And I know you’re just playing devils advocate…

 

Kincaid and Bosa are.the other 2…  Benford and Oliver would be close to elite, with complementary parts at the right moments in the season.. if the DL could just click..

 

I don’t think this team is far off.. but with injuries and depth issues at specific positions, it’s a “Josh Allen” show as usual… not as far as we Bills cynics think though?
