There’s 100% tension between them.

They’re rarely ever together.

And while I have legit criticisms of McDermott, this year has made it pretty clear to me that Beane is the bigger hindrance to us getting over the hump.

Just look at McDermott’s post-trade deadline presser.. you could tell he was under the impression help was coming and Beane failed to pull the trigger.

Beane isn’t terrible, but when the margins are so tight and we are paying a QB 50M, he’s got to be better .. and this isn’t isolated to Beane.. seems every team with an elite QB is now struggling with this issue and the Chiefs are finally coming back down to earth as their cheat codes in Kelce & Jones age out.

wait so every team w an elite QB is now struggling and we are doing the best...and somehow Beane is a big hindrance? how does that add up

All those stats are very nice, except it’s the TEs/RBs that are more productive in terms of Yards per catch, yards per attempt, TDs and chunk plays.

Josh has thrown to 9 WRs (218 targets) this season with 8 making catches (147 receptions for 1694 yards).  That’s a 67.4% completion %, a 11.5 yards per catch and 7.77 yards per attempt.

Josh has thrown to 8 TEs and RBs (156 targets) with all 8 making catches (121 receptions for 1443 yards).  Thats a 77.6% completion %, a 11.9 yards per catch and 9.25 yards per attempt.  This group also leads 12 TDs to 10 with 6 different TEs/RBs catching a TD pass to only 4 WRs.  3 of the 4 longest passing plays have gone to Kincaid, Cook and Johnson.  Slot receiver Shakir has the other.

Last I looked the RBs and TEs were supposed to be the safety blankets, not the primary downfield threats.

If the WRs were so good, why has Beane brought in during the season Cooks, Davis and Hardman while releasing Moore?  Injuries are a factor, but so ineffectiveness.

Face it, the strength of our passing attack is Cook, Johnson, Kincaid, Knox and Hawes.  Shakir is having a down year, and the boundary wide outs aren’t good.

The Las Angeles Rams have one of the best QB’s in the league and they have one of the best tandem WR’s in the League as well with Puka Nacua (1,186 YDs) and Davante Adams (718 Yds). Yet the Bills are more efficient in the passing game than the Rams. The Rams have 3,354 passing yards from 422 attempts (7.95 Yds per attempt) with those 2 players getting over 57% of those passing yards. The Bills have 3,134 passing yards on 374 attempts (8.37 Yds per attempt.) with the Bills leading receiving yards from Shakir, Kincade, Coleman, and Knox making up just under 57% of those yards.

Why do people care more about the Number on the Jersey who is catching the ball than efficiency of the Bills passing game overall. Again, they are in the top 5 in many important receiving statistics, but everyone is complaining about who is making the plays. I am not so sure spending 30 million on a #1 WR would change these numbers much, it would just decrease the receiving yardage of 7 or 8 other players. I believe that 30 million could be spent better elsewhere, and it's never a guarantee that picking a receiver at the end of the first round is going to be that #1, otherwise they wouldn't be there.  I personally like the fact that the Bills spread the ball around and do not rely on 1 or 2 players to move the ball in the air. The Bills are tied with the Rams with the most 20 + yards passing plays with 50. For Christ sakes what more do you want, you complain about the number on the Jersey?

Go Bills!!!

Add that instead of drafting WRs he signed mediocre FA who can’t get open and get hurt.

I support Beane in general, but his consistent failure to properly address the WR position is mind boggling and has cost this franchise.

The deal Mac Hollins signed with NE didn't exactly break the bank, and we let a trusted guy who blocks his tail off go to the competition for Chump Change.

Am I reading into this too much or is McDermott genuinely pissed at Beane for the whole debacle?

The non answer could have been more diplomatic and silent as to Beane, that’s for sure.   For example, “I’m focused on the guys who are here.”  Or, “we’re working through that situation, and we’ll see where it goes.”

I suspect McD is pissed about a lot of parts of that deal.   At Beane, for butchering it. At the fact that Ingram is gone.  At slay, for questioning our culture and desirability.  At Rosenhaus, for not telling a client who didn’t want to be here to shut the eff up.  And probably at the circumstances.  As if he hasn’t had enough to deal with already this season, he gets this boneheaded self inflicted wound.

EDIT:  I watched the clip.   Look at that.  McD did get around the mumbo jumbo later in the clip.  "I'm focused on our current team and this game this week."  And, context is important.  The question was really about releasing Slay so as to not hold him hostage.  Maybe the response reflects frustration with Slay. I actually take it more as putting responsibility on Beane for the 53 (which might speak to a broader tension with respect to the construct of the roster).

I think they were both upset, but not necessarily with each other. Things happen and people get pissed off. It happens on the field too. You move on.

I agree.  Not sure if you were commenting specifically on what I posted, but I was saying, Beane wouldn't drop Ingram without McD's approval.

Yeah but Sean has no idea what's going on with Darius slay

Just got way too much on his plate getting ready for the next games

It's on Brandon Bean to make sure that the dude is going to show up.. I'm sure he said hey would you rather have slay for Ingram?

And McDermott is like yeah as a number four for sure

Not putting into account all the other things to GMS to take into account.. like where the waiver wire players head is at

The Buffalo Bills have 100% been consistent since we signed Brandon that he is in full control of the roster...

Sean tells him the type of guys he wants and Brandon gets them

Sean doesn't have the time to be scouting and looking at players

Because when the lights shine the brightest and the competition is the best, no one has shown the ability step up and own the moment.  Gabe being the exception, but the coaching staff pissed that one away.

I keep seeing people posting about how they think there's some turmoil between Beane and McDermott in a lot of posts on here lately.  I also know that maybe a few weeks ago or so there was a podcast that brought up the subject and they had bullet points about things being said in press conferences etc. that give off that impression.

Personally speaking I haven't really seen anything that would lead me to believe this but I also don't really pay too much attention to things either of them say in the media.  Just wondering if anybody has any inside knowledge or thoughts/opinions if there's any truth to this.  If anybody has a link to the podcast that was speculating about it that would be appreciated as well as I would like to start doing a little digging and research into this as I'm starting to hear more and more people make these claims

I’ll restate what I believe would work.  After the seasons.

After the season…

1.  Terry pulls in Beane privately and fires him.

2.  McD is forced by Terry to do two things.

  A.  McD, you run the defense, and Babich can be your assistant.  Not up for a negotiation.

  B.  Daboll is now our offensive coordinator, and you want to keep Brady as a position coach, fine, but that’s it.

Daboll can find the creativity to make this work and he can use Cook effectively, but the next GM is damn well going to get WR’s.  We already have the OL, TE’s, RB’s, amd most importantly the QB.

We only need to fix one last thing on offense.  I’m done with blowing everything we have on defense.

Fantasyland lol when have we ever seen a guy get demoted and stay? No coach is agreeing to that...  and no FO is offering that lol

I know brother.  My point is simply Terry needs to take control.  Cleaning house will only make it worse.

I think Kim's health is a distraction to Terry, and he does own two major sports franchises. He strikes me as the type that hires people, pays them well and expects them to do what they are paid to do.
