Big Ben (Ben Roethlisberger) thinks that Mike Tomlin could "probably go win national championships" as a candidate for Penn State head coaching gig.

On his podcast, Big Ben said, "Maybe it's time. I like Coach Tomlin. I have a lot of respect for Coach Tomlin. But maybe it's best for him, too. Maybe a fresh start for him is what's best. Whether that's in the pros, maybe go be Penn State's head coach. You know what he would do at Penn State? He'd probably go win national championships, because he's a great recruiter."

Now will that happen? Probably not. His last college job was from 1999-2000 as Cincinnati's defensive back coach

Tomlin is however in danger of breaking the league record 18-straight winning seasons. Fans are starting to get antsy with him as we saw the Steelers getting booed off the field last week in the loss to the Bills 26-7.

"Here's what you don't do," Roethlisberger said. "You don't fire a guy like Coach Tomlin. He's a Hall of Fame coach. What you do is you come to an understanding and agreement. It's like, 'Hey, listen, I think it's probably best for both of us.' … Coach Tomlin's been here a long time. You would give him a statue, do whatever you gotta do, because he deserves it. He's earned it. But it's like, OK, it's time to find that next guy."

Tomlin said 4 years ago, "Why would I have any interest in coaching college football? That'll be the last time that I address it. And not only today, but moving forward. Never say never, but never. OK? Anybody else got any questions about any college jobs? There's not a booster with a big enough blank check."

I don't know Mike, there's been some pretty big checks going around lately...

The whole AFCN needs to clean house.

that’s actually fairly plausible when you think about it.   Wouldn’t that be funny if Tomlin, Stefanski, Harbaugh, and Taylor were all let go this offseason.

James Harrisons response was even worse.  He said Tomlin is a good coach, but not a great coach.

WOW This sounds pretty familiar now doesn't it !! Maybe seeing as both Tomlin and McD are from William and Mary they can have a double excommunication of coaches then both the Bills fans and Steelers fans would be ecstatic & get a 2 for 1 .

Big ben is such a blowhard. There's a reason he's never been on a network show, even as a guest analyst. Its 100% time for Tomlin to go, but he's more likely to end as the HC of the Giants than Penn State

I think if either the long term coaches from that division are canned it will seal McDaniel's fate in Miami. Ross cannot resist big names. And truthfully, a Tomlin or Harbaugh is probably needed to reset the culture down there. Refocus guys from the club scene to the football field.

The Bengals are too cheap for housekeepers. The best they will do is run a leaf blower thru the kitchen.

Tomlin is totally stale.  He won 1 SB with Big Ben, AB, and L. Bell, along with a great defense.  That does not scream "elite" and "untouchable".  Only the doofy Rooney's would continue to employ him and treat him like Lombardi or something.  Heck, even Bill Bellicheck was shown the door after winning 6 SBs.  Tomlin needs to go.  And yeah, you can fire a guy like him, and you should.  Why can't you.

That's what Tomlin and Harbaugh (and perhaps McD) are best at.  Culture reset pros.  Nothing wrong with that.  These guys rarely get the max when they have talented rosters, but they setup a system that another coach could come in and build off of.

Wonder what happened of the rumors regarding Brady (OC) to PSU?  Perhaps he is one of the next options?  If so, and McDaniel got canned, he'd be a good OC here.

How can Ben say he is a "Great Recruiter"?

He hasn't recruited in 25+ years and that was pre NIL's

It's funny.  Tomlin has done a lot (or all) of the draft selections, and Pittsburgh's roster is really bad now.

Winning sucks.

I get it, I get it. You want to win it all at least once.

I agree with all your points, except the bolded.

If McDaniel gets canned, he will, IMO prove to be a horrendous OC on his own. He basically brought Shanny's system with him and added speed. Once teams figured out how to limit the offense, he has had no idea how to evolve.

He frequently gets locked into one mindset when calling plays and often abandons the run, despite his most dangerous offensive weapon being his RB. Not ideal when our best offensive player this year is our RB, and we tend to play more than a few games in bad weather every year.

Add to that the Shannahan system he would likey run isn't really what Josh excels at. It's more designed for mediocre QBs with weaker yet accurate passing styles. Tua, Purdy, Mac Jones. Guy that get the ball out and don't go off script. That's not Allen and I frankly don't think McDaniel has the ability to tailor an offense around him.
