The current technology showing the line does nothing regarding the spotting of the ball - just where the first down line is

it's not actually spotting the ball virtually.  it is still completely dependent on where the ref puts the ball.  the only thing the virtual thing does is put the spot of the ball on the screen in relation to the first down line.  it's a farce

The chain is right on the line and even from the back angle it's pretty obvious the ball isn't there. Unfortunately the officials were correct. The broadcast line and certain camera angles can be deceiving.

like @zow2 said and I am in the same boat… out of all the games I had in the multi box view yesterday, not one time did I see a “virtual measurement”.
