I remember back to the first year Bernard started. So many plays that year either Poyer or Hyde were barking stuff to him and he would get the defense lined up right. The experience that a guy like Poyer brings is invaluable.

Plus, a large part of McD’s defense is based on being deceptive. Poyer has that experience.

Where did I (or anyone) say they were "egregiously bad"?  I pointed out that yards allowed is not a useful stat.  They rank 22nd, 19th and 18th in 3rd D conversions, 4th down conversions and RED Zone TDs.

Not you, personally.

And thanks for sharing the additional stats to bring the overall picture into better focus.

At the start of the season it was, it’s only practice squad. Here we are 🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s almost as if someone got hurt.

This is not acceptable. You have a unicorn at QB in his prime, and you can't even field a moderately good defense. I thought our coach is a defensive genius? Also, why do DTs like Ford and Settle do so well elsewhere?  The Bean / Mc Clappy combo is failing, and failing Josh.

Speaking of that, how long until Josh starts to get complacent or doesn’t have the sense of urgency because his front office is proving they don’t really give a damn.

i know that’s an unpopular opinion but it’s real talk and would be an absolute travesty if it happens.

I don’t think that he’s wired like that. With that being said, he absolutely could go the other way and start to hold their feet to the fire. He loves those guys but if he says, “I want a WR or else” or “I want a new coach” or whatever, they (being Pegula) has to oblige. Josh is in that LeBron place right now. He can pick coaches, GMs and players with his leverage. If he decided to threaten they’ll (Pegula) have no choice.

Poyer is washed. It’s such an embarrassing Billsy thing to do. “This guy was good 5 years ago, let’s re-sign him”. Ugh. 😑 Rather they role with Rapp and upgrade in a couple of years. Y’all living in fantasy land.

Agree. I can't ever see him saying a bad word about McDermott.

Made a tackle on kickoff coverage

It’s a good thing they don’t make them run all the way down the field anymore. Poor guy wouldn’t have survived

LOL.  He was DC for Reid for 2 seasons.  He was not in charge of acquiring personnel.

He was a young brand-new DC who was looking for a system.

You tell me who McDermott was "sitting" as a great athlete over his "system" guys back in 2009.

Once again, LOL.

“Poor Defensive Performance

The Eagles' defense allowed a franchise-high 31 touchdown passes during the season.

They had the worst red-zone defense in the NFL, which contributed to their struggles.

Inconsistent Team Performance

Despite a 10-6 record and a playoff appearance, the Eagles were eliminated in the first round.

The defense allowed at least 24 points in 11 games, raising concerns about its effectiveness”—ESPN

McDermott took over a bliz heavy scheme from Jim Johnston.  By the end, he was moving away from that, wanting pressure from his front four. That theory, remains in action most games now.

My point about his use of personnel is germane to our current situation.  I admit that was not clear in my whine. Regardless, Jordan Poyer is not the answer. Signing Micah Hyde last year, instead of trading for a safety —-did not solve the problem. Did you notice Rapp make any big plays? Me neither.

He was out there with the D for a few plays also.
