10/13/2025 Bills at Falcons - Post game thread

The one positive from this loss is that the hype has stopped.  That is a good thing.  The over the top super bowl talk in july, hard knocks, the hallmark movie.  It's all too much.  Now they will be back to where they were last year when everyone thought the dolphins or jets would win the division.

 

now instead of the bills and super bowl every time someone mentions them it will be they are not good enough.  I like this and this is the stuff that motivates modern athletes.  

 

The flip side of that is they are probably not good enough but we will see if they can ever get the team healthy.

And then we lost 2 more times all year and once was a meaningless loss when Allen didn't play the last game and we rested tons of players.

I hear you. I hope we catch lightning in a bottle twice. That’s why I don’t think an in season change is the way to go. Give them the season and see if they can turn it around. For me, it’s gotta be a Super Bowl appearance though. I have no confidence this defensive philosophy combined with lack of talent will get it done though and the only way that changes is with a regime change.

Its not just about Allen.  I am sure he had basically nobody open all game.   But he also made bad decisions.   I don't know why thats so hard for people to say.

I have no problem saying Allen made some bad decisions yesterday and they're related IMO to his realization that the defense can not be relied upon to stop anything so the Offense must not only score TD's but also take time off the clock to protect the D.  Allen is pushing to hard to compensate for what may be the worst D in football.  This is a common & basic human reaction.

The chiefs have won a super bowl.  Its a different mindset at that point.  The Bills hype has been way over the top and imo for all the wrong reasons.  

 

Hopefully they come back next week from the bye healthier and motivated.  I also hope they go get help at corner and maybe wr.  If samuel is just going to be injured every other week they need to add a player.  They also could add a wr and dump moore and shavers. 

 

Shavers has stepped into the role Mack Hollins played last year because of his size and he is not even in the same zip code.  Hollins was a premier blocker on the edge and shavers is not.  Hollins could also make a cluth third down catch or a play in the redzone if they needed it and shavers does not appear to be able to do this so far.  Hollins brought attitude to the bills offense last year also, I can see him doing the same with the pats on the field this year.  its a bummer they didn't recognize that and bring him back.  Unless he wanted to leave of course.

 

They are in between a rock and a hard place with WR and Corner.  Injuries, the salary cap and lack of available players for trade is going to make this an almost impossible area to fix during the season.

Because the Chiefs have superior front office and coaching. This had become glaringly obvious over the last several weeks.

Yeah their plan at safety and linebacker for 2025 was a bad one and it's killing them right now.  Babich is in over his head but it's impossible to play zone when you have such poor play at linebacker and safety - and the amazing thing is their D-line isn't bad, they get a decent amount of pressure, but they are so soft up the entire middle of the defense at the second and third levels that it doesn't matter.  They are in true crisis back there.

It's not lightning in a bottle so much as they use the bye week really productively most times.

 

Bills tend to go on long streaks of wins around this time...for whatever reason it's like they need time to correct whatever the issue is and the bye week usually gives it to them.

 

 

Also, WTF was up with that casual 4th down backhand flip to a wide open Johnson? Set your feet and throw the f***ing ball properly.

 

Allen is starting to get a little overconfident in doing "whatever" because he always got away with it and is starting to do it when he doesn't need to.

It’s really astonishing to see the difference in WGR programming when they switch from Jeremy and Joe to Sal. Jeremy and Joe actually criticize the team, Sal is desperately trying to spin this loss as “lots of little things”

In the first half I could see that! But the second half the Bills D played relatively well and only gave up 1 FG and actually blocked one.. The O did nothing the second half of the game pretty much.. it happens.

Just watched that third and 10 incomplete throw to moore.  Out of character for Allen, he had shakir for a first down right in front of him.  There are two guys there to tackle him immediately but its a first down. Yes I know the end is sitting/spying and could make a play there but I think he has him.  He seemingly always throws it there but instead tried the outside shot to moore who I guess missed the adjustment.  Oh well.  

 

Seems the recipe from last year of running a ton and using shakir on third downs has been missing the last two weeks.  Hopefully this is something they get back to .

The biggest issues I had with the offense:

 

1) short yardage on O. That’s how we lost the game. Fails on 3rd and 3, 3rd and 2, 3rd and 1, and 4th and 2. 
 

2) abandoning the run in the 4th quarter.

Mack Hollins is a journeyman and a mercenary, who has loyalty to his current team and season. He was dead to me when he signed with the Pats. Simple.  He establishes zero roots anywhere and goes off with his barefeet and "Mr. Wizards world" self help videos.

yea they were in his face all night but it looks like on that third down play johnson picked up one of the extra guys and josh saw the other one coming.  I think they did a good job of picking up that pressure.  Not sure why he took the really high risk throw to moore instead of the almost certain first down to shakir.

I’ll die on the hill saying we have good players on defense. I truly believe it’s the scheme. I think you bring in a Jim Schwartz, Wade Phillips,  Fangio etc type guy with the personnel as is and we are a top 10 unit by November. Obviously those specific guys aren’t available but let’s do something
