Defensive pass interference rule in 2025

I am having an argument with a friend about DPI. My question is ; can a defensive player get called for DPI in 2025 without touching the receiver?

That was soooo DPI on Shakir it’s crazy they never even showed a slowed down replay on it.  The league benefits greatly off this Pats win.  The excitement in Boston over this game will translate into greater profit.

I think he was referring to the PI on tre with Diggs.  Tre barely touched him...with his chest...when Diggs was technically already out of the back of the endzone.

Yeah lots wrong n there goes our undefeated season. Or….. long season.. See who survives the battle of attrition. … That was discouraging but we’ll see adjustments and improvements as we progress. …

It’s tough seeing what’s a penalty and not when in the stadium. 
 

I guess if they did show it on the screens, they think it’s a penalty. If not..I guess not.

 

I’d like to blame the loss on the refs, but really need to see them when I rewatch on tv.

There was a play in the first half where the Pats CB  had an obvious grip on the collar of Keon Coleman.....no call.

 

Officials were squarely on the side of the Pats tonight....just like in the Brady/Bellichick era.

Keon was grabbed on the collar by a face guarding DB, but we saw no call. Apparently the memo to call DPI on the Patriots didn’t go out.

That play was so obvious.  And then Tre gets a PI call in the endzone when Diggs was already out of bounds and the ball "uncatchable".

It didn’t change anything though that DPI. If Henry had caught that ball I’d see it being a big deal but the Pats probably still get 3 points there.

It hit Tre White in the back it was catchable but again changed nothing but the spot for the FG try

The rule is the Bills WRs are never ever ever interfered with or held up with illegal contact.

I don’t know, but apparently a defensive player can be NOT called for DPI in 2025 despite completely blowing him up before the ball gets there.

Shakir got run over on their last play.   That USED to be probably the most common PI call.  Now they all seem to be various interpretations of what hand fighting is/isn’t allowed

The refs gave the Patriots every single opportunity to win this game. Funny how there is always an officiating controversy when the Bills lose. The only time the Patriots got flagged were blatant unnecessary roughness calls and pre-snap penalties. Not to mention the Patriots were holding allover the place. The Bills couldn’t get into any type of rhythm whatsoever.

The announcers even said “well if he had just come back to the ball…”

 

That’s when I knew the fix was in.

 

Edit before I get flamed:  of course I don’t mean a literal fix.  But it just seemed odd to me that there always had to be a big conference before even the most obvious penalties were called on the Pats.
