Another Fan Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I never started listening to their albums until recently. in high school (late 90s) lots of kids used to like them where I went too school. Even had Wu Gear a number of them. I thought it was ironic as well it was a pretty suburban school I went too. I saw their music then largely as too in your face and hood if you will. But over the years on his own Method Man seemed a pretty good and funny guy what I learned about him. So yeah digging into their catalogue, I can definitely listen to it. Not a huge fan but I can f with it so to speak. 1 Quote

Johnny Hammersticks Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I’ve always love Wu-Tang and the solo projects by Raekwon, GZA, ODB and Ghostface. Liquid Swords is one of those albums I could listen to from start to finish…over and over. Interestingly, I met Method Man at a street lacrosse event in NYC a couple years ago. He was a super nice guy. I chatted with him for a solid few minutes. 2 1 1 Quote

Jauronimo Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Banks and Steelz is Wu Tang member side project worth checking out. Lead singer of Interpol with Rza. 2 Quote

NoHuddleKelly12 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 My roommie in college introduced me to the Clan back in the late 90’s, and he was ironically the most milk toast white suburban kid from Amherst you’d ever meet—that said, our stereo system output varied between Andrew Lloyd Webber show tunes, classical, top 40 or gangsta rap—I’d say quite appropriate to a well rounded liberal arts education lol 😂. 1 Quote

I could believe that. I'll never forget in high school the upper class man who had the locker above me had his whole locker decked out and tagged with Wu Tang stuff everywhere. And this kid was like super athletic and super super smart. Most other kids there had naked or half naked chick pictures in their lockers. lol Makes me even more impressed with that kid today. I never really started exploring their albums until recently. I like that their lyrics are raw without feeling overly political. Quote

Fr. Jerk Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) I remember getting 36 Chambers from one of those penny CD catalogs back in the day. What's Wu-Tang Clan? Sounds cool. Gritty East coast beats with old school Kung Fu movie samples, plus 9 guys that could rap their @ss off... dope! I have to agree with the comments about it making suburban white kids acting hood though. Saw a bunch of real life Cant Hardly Wait guys emerge 💩 36 Chambers and the first crop of solos were great. Unpopular opinion - up until some of the more recent albums 36 was truly the only great one. Wu-Tang Forever didn't follow up that well, IMO. I think Method Man even said in an interview that the difference between the first and second album was they were all riding the bus/train to the studio on the first, by the time the second dropped they were taking plane rides to LA. ODB passing away was a big loss. He was a character that brought an energy to the group that will never be replaced. Ghostface has maybe the best discography ever. You can argue that none of his albums are bad. Supreme Clientele 2 is amazing. Ditto on Rae's new album. The purple tape ranks up there with Illmatic and The Infamous. Wish GZA had more albums. The most interesting/enigmatic member. Inspectah Deck deserves way more credit. All those those Czarface albums bang and are str8 fiyaaaaa 🔥 Method Man might be the best of them all, aside from my all time fav, Redman (A sworn in member) Meth just doesn't have that 5 star classic. The biggest/best faction not only in Hip-Hop, but in all off music. Also, one of the most iconic logos. RZA is a genius. Edited September 26 by Fr. Jerk 2 Quote

I think that turned me on from them in the late 90s… kids at school listening to them and thinking their hood. Today though in my early 40s I can appreciate the sound and rawness of the lyrics. It doesn’t feel political either. Yeah Method Man is my fave member. How High is a hilarious movie Edited September 26 by Another Fan 1 Quote
