I think people just remember week 1 where he like almost everyone not named Ed Oliver had a bad week. I think he's been pretty average, but I also get the sense he's been playing through injuries. That said, coverage relies heavily on pass rush, which hasnt been fantastic either. Small sample size, I have every confidence he will get better as the year goes on. They are capable of playing close games. In my football pool I took the Saints and the points. 16.5 is too much in an NFL game and I can see a scenario where the Bills are up something like 31-10 and then the Saints get a meaningless touchdown in garbage time with the Bills winning 31-17 or something like that. Plus, McDermott is a coach that won't run up the score on an opponent. 16.5 is a wild spread. Because largely even if the game is a blowout and the Bills are cruising up 24 points with 8 minutes left in the game it is very possible NOLA takes the ball scores a TD and gets a 2pt conversion (to make it a 2 score game) and the Bills just grind the clock out and its a 16 point win and the Bills seemingly in control of the game with a 3 possession lead don't cover on a late TD and conversion. There's also the possibility that due to an early turnover or special teams mistake the Bills don't get a 2-3 score lead until the second half and NOLA stays within 17 and kicks a field goal late to cover it down to 14. An average NFL game each team only gets around 10-12 possessions with 8-9 possessions being the lower end. To ask a team to win by a 3 score margin in a game is hard esp given the prevalence of garbage time scores. 2 Quote

Dillenger4 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 People make fun of the Saints here. Not sure why. Yes 3 losses - but they should be 2-1. They had the Cards and Niners on the ropes. Niners had to make a HARD comeback to win and IMO they got lucky with some shi$ calls. Cards were also a game where the Saints looked tough. I hope Bills win and we pound them but don't get ahead of yourselves. This will be a good game. 1 1 1 Quote

The Bills should have lost week 1 and could have lost week 3. The Saints game is not to be taken lightly these are still NFL teams playing their asses off early in the season. 2 Quote

The speculation is that's because the Bills have played a lot more man coverage this season thus far. Mayve Hairston can take some reps when the Bills are in man coverage. I think it's extremely premature to comment on Benford's play this year as "not as good" and as others have noted, the stats actually say he's pretty damn good in man coverage anyway. The Bills have a very disjointed secondary right now that should only improve as they play together and Hairston starts to get reps. Quote

Even more aggravating is the price of tix in Charlotte. I have been waiting for the prices to drop so I could buy tix to the Bills game. And then Panthers go out an lay the wood to the Falcons. Dammit... Nosebleeds in Charlotte are going for 250+ 1 Quote

Shoulda, coulda, woulda...the data says the Bills are a monumental favorite this week and nothing suggests they are taking any teams lightly. If anything, the Saints performance last week showed that they are already looking for the exit. Quote

All the data last week said the Bills should win comfortably against Miami and it wasn't until the final minute when they finally made it a two-score game and won by 10. Granted the Dolphins are a rivalry game, and they have more talent than NO, but I never assume a blowout in an NFL game. I think the Bills win but fail to cover the 16.5 spread. 2 Quote

Yeah, we'll just have to agree to disagree there. Every once in a while there's a game that really is as much of a mismatch as it appears. I mean...Spencer Rattler. Let that sink in. I would love it if the Bills were up 28-0 in the 2nd quarter and then Allen and the rest of the starters get pulled for the 2nd half. A stress-free Bills blowout win is always welcomed. 2 Quote

Rubes Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Just saw this crazy stat...the Saints are one of only 4 teams to have a winning record at Highmark Stadium, and they have the best record of the four at 4-1 all-time. That's nuts! 1 1 Quote

There aren't many NFL games where teams can't at least be competitive in. So the Saints game should be a blowout but that often times doesn't happen in the NFL for various reasons. I expect that this game will be a 3 score win but there's just so many variables in the NFL that can make a game close. Quote

Plus, McDermott was so unhappy with how his defense played against the Dolphins, I can't see them being complacent against the Saints. I'm more concerned that an easy win will cause them to let their guard down the following week against the hungry Patriots, who played us hard in both games last year. One-score victories in both. I still haven't gotten over them beating the Bills two years ago in another October game. Quote

The Bills are coming two wins in 4 days over divisional rivals. They have another divisional rivalry game next week. This is a game against a "Meh" non-conference opponent that the Bills have no history with. I think the Bills will still win as the talent gap between these teams is huge but if there was ever a game for them to let their guard down then this is it. Edited September 24 by Gregg Quote
