Sorry I did forget Grable.  That is an interesting one.  Have to wonder if they just leave him on IR for this year.  Lundt might be able to sneak through waivers. Also I wonder with how well Hawes is playing if they decide that Anderson is expendable.  He is not on the field much any more.

I like this idea a lot. However it takes two to trade.  If you were another GM what would you offer?  To me I think he is terrible and not exactly cheap either so I wouldn't part with even a low round draft pick.  Now maybe there is a team like Titans or Carolina with lots of cap space that would be willing to take him on fir a 7th round pick.

Someone always values someone.  I bet we can get a 5th

Anderson is an interesting idea. His role has certainly changed with the emergence of Hawes. But I think he is still their main IOL backup so I don't think he's in danger.

As for AJE, I can see that you really dislike him, but he has 19 sacks as DE3 last three years. That is by no means terrible. He is serviceable DE3 and I am pretty sure he could be an upgrade for some teams. I think he should fetch a 6th. But who knows.

Slightly contrarian 3 steps:

1. Ditch Codrington.  Put Shavers or somebody back there.

2. Cut Solomon then sign to PS.  I don't see any more production from him than Epenesa.  Epenesa has made plays in past years.  The Internet says Solomon had 2 sacks last year but I don't remember them.  I'm not a fan of undersized DL.  (Which is one reason I was optimistic about Bosa this year).

3. Get L. Jackson a hangnail and put him on IR

I'd keep Samuel on hand for injury contingency.  He played fine in the playoffs iirc and his cap hit is rough.

What is epenesa worth on the trade market?

Would we get a third for him? Early 4th? I don't know about that.

I'd say hes probably worth a 6th rounder. Part of the deal to is he is a free agent after the season so the team trading for him might only get him for half a season.

If I was GM for the day I would make Josh Allen return punts and kick returns. He would be a threat to break one every time..

You hate us, don’t you?

Let’s keep that as a Madden activity, please.

It WOULD be fun though!  :)

If Jackson is ready to go, then it may be worth just puking the trigger, get a 6th and activate hoecht

If Jackson isn't ready to go, then I think you probably keep him for the year

I never mentioned Hamlin so I’m assuming I was quoted incorrectly. I also pointed out that McDermott didn’t trust Codrington enough in important games last year and preferred to have Shakir return over him late in the season and in the playoff last year while he sat as an inactive player.

I gave perfectly good reasoning for why Codrington could be gone. It’s play GM for the say and what you would do. I’d make Shakir the full time returner like he was for the entire 2nd half of the season last year

Yes, you were quoted incorrectly. It was meant for someone else. My apologies. I meant to quote NeverOutNick.

But at least one of the cuts has to be Dline. They currently have 5 DEs and 4 DTs. They are not going to make that 6 DEs and 5 DTs. 6 and 4 I can see. 5 and 5 I can see. But they are not going with eleven spots on the defensive line. Other than the idea that they cut Ogonjobi without him ever making the roster who else is at risk? They aren't cutting Jackson even though he is a perennial inactive. I think the chances of them cutting Daquan are pretty remote given his play especially this past week, and Oliver, Groot, Bosa and the two rookie DTs are safe as houses. So you get to Solomon or Epenesa pretty quickly and while AJE has played some teams snaps this year Solomon has been a core STer.

Sorry for the incoming long reply, but you have a knack for making me go all analytical lol

Right now, we're carrying the bare minimum at DT. We were initially going to carry 5 DT for a total of 10 DL, but Carter got injured right before the year. I think they believed that they could get by with having the minimum 4 we have active for a number of weeks and then bring Logue or Phillips up, if necessary. And they temporarily decided to boost ST's with Franklin for the time being.

I think ultimately when it comes to the numbers game and where we carry extra, it's more of a sticking point coming out of the Pre-Season than it is mid season. Mid season, it's more about fitting the best players you can on when and where you can, depending on injuries.

Obviously, there's limits to that. You need to make sure you have at least 2 QB, 3 RB, 1 FB, 5 WR, 3 TE, 9 OL, 8 DL, 5 LB, 5 CB, 4 S, and 3 Specialists. But those 5 extra spots are more liberal as the year goes on.

11 DL isn't an insane number. In fact, we finished the season last year with that exact number -

DE:

Greg Rousseau

AJ Epenesa

Von Miller

Dawuane Smoot

Javon Solomon

DT:

Ed Oliver

Daquan Jones

Austin Johnson

Dewayne Carter

Jordan Phillips

Quinton Jefferson

I mean, right now, we're carrying an unheard of 12 in the Secondary. Granted, Codrington and Franklin are DB's in name only. But the same can be sort of said of Solomon, who's way more ST's than DL.

The problem with cutting from the DL, and you touched on it a bit, is who do you let go? The most obvious at DE is the aforementioned Solomon. But he's a key ST player, which is why he's active over Jackson. So it probably won't be him. Obviously, Rousseau, Bosa, Hoecht, and Jackson aren't going anywhere. So that really only leaves AJE. I did mention the off chance possibility that, if everyone stays healthy there, he could be dealt. But if we can't get anything for him, I'm not sure they'd outright cut him.

Daquan won't be cut. I don't see them thinking he's the unquestioned starter at 1T to thinking he provides nothing in the rotation. I suppose, like AJE, there's an off chance that if someone were interested they'd Trade him. But that would only happen if they felt Walker was ready to be their starter AND that Ogunjobi would play 1T. But idk how likely that is as Ogunjobi was brought in to be a 3T and that's where he spent Camp and the Pre-Season. Though he has played that spot before.

When it comes to DT with Ogunjobi, as I said, we always meant to carry 5 there to begin with. So that's a pretty simple move of erasing the pencil Franklin was etched in with Carter's spot and activating Ogunjobi. And Hairston is as simple as erasing the pencil Ingram was etched in with - as I feel the only reason he made it was bc Hairston was out. Same goes for Lundt penciled into Grable's spot and Prater in Bass' spot (if they decide to activate either).

Ultimately, it's all pretty simple - save for Hoecht's spot. I think the easiest thing that can happen there is that there's an injury along the WR, DL, or Secondary rooms where someone is IR'ed at one of those spots. Though that's not something I'm wishing for, that would make it the simplest move.

Maybe Landon Jackson pops up with a mysterious injury and he's IR'ed for a time. But I imagine they'd want him to develop in Practice. Outside of that, maybe they shop around AJE, Samuel, or Daquan and they can get something done with one of them.

Disagree on ditching Codrington, the kick returns he’s done so far have been productive. The punt returns will come too imo.

Solomon? No way do you cut and stash him. He’s needed for that Bosa rotation with AJE. Exclusive Edge guys, there’s only 4.  Roose, Bosa, AJE and him as the guy in your third point; Landon Jackson isn’t seeing the field one bit unless he does a 180°.

Once Hoecht returns then maybe you make moves on the d-line, free up a spot for him and keep Solomon as the last rotational guy. Either way, if you’re moving any of those ends off the active 53 it would be Jackson for Hoecht imo.

Apparently Jenkins got dinged up as well in the game so if he can’t be called up next week because of injury we only have Ciarlo. It’s unfortunate for Jenkins but if his injury is for any length of time beyond a week  you almost have to injury settlement with him and bring in another LB for the PS

What happens if a practice squad player gets injured?

Players who are waived/injured, and not claimed on waivers, return to their team and are placed on injured reserve unless an injury settlement is made.

That is an option I think they would use.

He can be activated after his injury.

If they use an injury settlement he cannot be re-signed to the Bills during the rest of the season.

Sure. Thry have kept 11 before. But there are just no other easy positions to nick a spot from. The way I see it there are only four options:

- The two special teams DBs (Franklin & Codrington)

 - A non-special teams DB (and I agree with you Ingram is probably most at risk)

- A defensive lineman (which means Ogonjobi, Epensea or Soloman)

- A wide receiver (where they are probably one heavy compared to normal which means Samuel)

They are not cutting a running back, a tight end, an offensive lineman, a linebacker or a specialist. And I very much doubt they take all three from the DB room (so Codrington, Franklin AND Ingram). So then it becomes what can you live without... an 11th DL or a 6th WR?
