Rich Stadium Original Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Haven't seen it anywhere else on the board here, but wondering if I was the only one cringing at Josh Allens stiff arm on his 40 yard run Sunday. Thought the run was great, and Romo even mentioned the wherewithal to switch the arm he was carrying the ball with to decrease the risk of a punch out. But where I cringed is where he used a stiff arm WITH HIS THROWING HAND to try to gain a few extra yards..especially around the face mask of the defender..where he could have easily jammed/broken/sprained/lacerated/dislocated finger(s) on HIS THROWING HAND. Truly appreciate the effort, but the time out of the lineup is not worth a few extra yards on the play in my opinion... 2 4 3 Quote
Mooshocker12 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Ok. Tell Josh that.....I'm sure he will listen. Not that I don't agree with you, I just think he is a baller and will do whatever he can to get that extra yard or 20. Excellent point however! 2 2 1 1 Quote

Going outta bounds 40 yards down field in Game 2, is not it! Going down field towards the GL in the AFC Championship… IS! Don’t do stupid shite 17! (See Joe Burrow). 2 2 1 1 1 Quote
Walking Tall Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I did cringe. Not going to lie. Hate to see him dislocate or break a finger. 1 1 Quote
transient Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I don't think he switched the ball to his left hand for security... I think he did it so that he could stiff arm the defender. Without re-watching the play, IIRC, his stiff arm didn't really connect, and it would have been more of a push, AND if it did connect and was successful he would basically have had a clear path to the endzone. Allen plays big boy football. 1 3 Quote
GunnerBill Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I didn't spot it but would have cringed if I had. I also didn't like the run inside the 5 where he could get out near sideline and while he does slow up enough to avoid a major hit he still gets a bump from the defender for the sake of an extra yard. If that's the AFCCG - sure, take bump. It's week 2 at the Jets up big, just get out of bounds untouched. Quote
elroy16 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I would imagine the coaches talked to him about it. His whole career there have been discussions about taking unnecessary hits and that was certainly one of them. I love that he's not scared of contact and will do anything to get those extra yards, but there's time and place. I'm pretty surprised people are giving you grief for bringing this up. I love Josh too, but he's not perfect. He missed some throws and the intentional grounding where he back handed it and it didn't get back to the line was dumb as hell. There's something about the Jets that he plays pretty pedestrian. Quote
BigPappy Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Josh isn't the type of player to let a broken or dilocated finger slow him down. I wouldn't even be shocked if he started slinging it left handed. (sarcasm) Quote
Mikie2times Posted September 17 Posted September 17 (edited) Josh Allen is going to do Josh Allen things. No way to stop it. His leaping is more scary IMO. Edited September 17 by Mikie2times Quote
SoMAn Posted September 17 Posted September 17 And I hope he wears a helmet and elbow pads if he takes his Schwinn out for a ride. 🙄 Quote

Talk about unnecessary. Josh trying to make a TD run in a tie game pales in comparison IMO. 1 2 Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted September 17 Posted September 17 He switched the ball to his left and then sticks out his throwing hand!!!! I was screaming WTF before he even went out of bounds. There is a time and a yard to gain momentum- that was not it. I did love how after getting the first down inside the 5 facing two denders between him and the goal line, he hesitated thought about taking them on and then went out of bounds. He can learn. Quote
Rubes Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Definitely seemed to me he was going for an Angry Runs sceptre. Quote

IDK, honestly he was probably putting himself at more risk of an ankle injury hurdling over the fallen linemen on that play than he was stiff arming a CB. Also, I just re-watched the play, and I stand by my earlier assessment, if he can put Adams down he picks up another 15-20 yds at least if he doesn't end up scoring. 1 Quote
US Egg Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Bills never had a player of such magnitude. Dare say, Allen is the alpha and omega. I pretty much cringe whenever Allen has any sort of on field contact. Quote

I didnt see if he had more yards to gain on the long run. Quote
YattaOkasan Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I was happy he used the stiff arm to prevent getting lit up. CB has to slow down when he presents it else hell just slide off the tackle. The throwing arm part is a good thought. Wonder how often people get injured on stiff arms versus hits near the sidelines. Quote

He may have the angle on Allen after he's slowed by Adams, but if he doesn't Allen scores. Quote
