To me they always have been... but I go back to the late Namath days LOL...  lifetime season series is actually pretty close I think most recently its not a big rivalry, but the Jets fans and their proximity to us keep the rivalry in the game...  so yes they are...

The team I hate the most of any team in the NFL is the Jets... but I never considered them a rival. I never considered the Pats a rival... we were just their whipping boy for 20 years. I always considered the Dolphins our rival, because we seemed to always be on the same level and it seemed like north vs south... Working man vs beach bums... cold vs hot... Jills vs the world renowned Miami cheerleaders.

And the Chiefs these last bunch of years for obvious reasons.

I would add the Ravens as well. In the big picture as far as the AFC goes the Chiefs and Ravens are at the top. Watch out for the Broncos and Chargers. I could see these teams starting to become a factor in the AFC playoff picture.

I don't usually feel animosity or hate towards public figures or others whom I only know through media, but I'd like to hit that obnoxious A hole Fireman Ed with a water hose from a hydrant and then run him over with the ladder truck.

Nothing wrong with being an enthusiastic fan, but that guy gives off a vibe like he wants the whole stadium crowd to focus on him and his massive ego.  Such a D-bag.

The way he carries on, you'd think the Jets, (winners of a grand total of 3 division titles since the AFL-NFL merger, 55 seasons!), were some celebrated juggernaut with a trophy case full of Lombardis.

F him.

Ed Anzalone was a NYC Firefighter, his Harlem Unit was deployed to the World Trade Center 24 years ago today. That “D-bag”, as you so eloquently put it, ran into hell to rescue others. What he, other Firefighters and Police did that day, far outweighs any trophies or titles.

Their fans are, by far, the worst of any team in the division, so there's that.

When you meet NYers/people from NJ, you can usually tell who they root for by their personality:

Classy, friendly = Giants fan

Obnoxious, douchebaggy = Jets fan

That stereotype almost never fails.

You are exactly correct.  I've been to both Jests and Giants games in the Meadowlands.  Giants fans were nice and we had a great time.  Jests game, some little drunk dumb punk wanted to pick a fight with several of us wearing Bills gear.  Fortunately, security took him away before we had to beat his a$$.  In general, Jests crowd was obnoxious and a pain to be around.

Jests haven't been good enough for long enough to really be a rivalry.

During the Rex Ryan year, their Rex Ryan years to be clear, yes.  They were better than us, loud, and obnoxious.   Feels gross having to clarify which teams Rex Ryan era I am referring to.

Also, in regards to the idiot portion of our fan base, I took my 10 yo son to several games in 1997-98. The only games where I saw altercations in the stands were bs Raiders )duh) and vs Jets. Jets worse than Raiders actually.

I did not know this... thanks for the context.

I’ve been to both Giants and Jets games, have had mostly good experiences. The one bad experience was a long time ago at Shea Stadium, some one gave me tickets to final game of the season that didn’t matter. There were a lot of drunks, I think some of that had to do with it being a meaningless game. I took a date, to impress her, the seats were in the press box. In spite of the fighting drunks, it worked out, she married me.

The only time I’ve ever been accosted at a game was at Hard Rock Stadium a few years ago. The perpetrator was a drunk female Bills fan that decided I was a Dolphins fan, after a Dolphin TD she decided to beat me with a foam finger (don’t worry I’m fine). She did not stop until one of her drunk friends intervened.

I lived in NYC for a number of years of years, also spent summers and then lived for a few years in the Hamptons. New Yorkers have a right to love that City, it is a microcosm of who we are. The Borough of Queens is the most diverse place on the planet. When I first moved to NYC a Cab driver asked me how long I’d been in New York, I told him a few months, he said “when you’ve lived here for six months you’re a New Yorker, welcome to The City, good luck.”  Today especially, fandom aside, let’s show some love and respect.

I'd give them love and respect if they weren't crapping on Buffalo. All I heard was there's nothing to do here etc. I agree NY City better in that they have a far superior public transportation system and many more things than Buffalo but there's like 5 cities in the world that would be close to NY City has to offer so I felt the slight on Buffalo uncalled for.

I’m making an assumption here, but your experience is with a bunch of college students, over a relatively short time. My experience was as a member of a community. By the way, I went to college in Syracuse and I felt the same way, compared to Buffalo, there was nothing to do there. After some time to reflect and having gone back and visited Syracuse, it is a perfectly nice city.

For a true rivalry,

- it has to be a 2 way rivalry

- they have to play meaningful games against each other

- it cannot be one sided - i.e. one team wins all of the time

In the 70's we always considered Miami a rival since we lost to them 20x in a row. But to the Dolphins, the Bills were inconsequential.

The same goes for the Belichik/Brady Patriots  we hated them because they ALWAYS beat us, but they could have cared less about the Bills.

Now that the tables have turned on the Dolphins and Pats - that WE beat them all of the time - I don't have any passion about those games

The same might apply to the Chiefs since they have beaten us every time in the playoffs

As one poster mentioned earlier, we really have not played any meaningful games against the Jets, and our only playoff game against them was in 1981

Here's another reason there's no rivalry that we old guys remember:

It's hard to hate the team that gave the AFL credibility.  The Jets victory in Super Bowl III was a victory for every AFL team.  The AFL players, including the Bills players, were all proud of the Jets for beating Baltimore and showing the NFL that they were not an inferior league.  The Jets victory was an AFL victory.

Agreed. I dislike Jets fans more than I dislike the Jets themselves.
