This is exactly what this is to me... Poyer looked cooked... but then again, Hamlin and Bishop combined for some really burnt toast ... this is insurance... and could it be that his ceiling is literally no worse than Hamlin right now?

Definitely. Even though they are just bringing him in for the practice squad why did they wait to make this move until after training camp/preseason is over?  I really think they are more behind at the safety position than they were anticipating this year.  Hoping for the best but makes me nervous this season we see more of the same issues as last year

I dunno why people are acting like the sky is falling. He meets several needs from a backup.

Cheap. Able to learn our system (knows it). System fit. Locker room leader.

I dunno many teams with no dropoff for backup players, they aren't supposed to be world beaters. Our system seems to value smart players more than someone negligibly more athletic (again, backup pool were picking from).

Jordan can hold down the fort in a game here or there better than anybody else we can pick up at this point. Its not earth shattering breaking news, we got a high floor backup... cool. Let's move on

This!

And more than anything this is a condemnation on the FO work on addressing the secondary the last 6 months. I am no film guru like some, but I cannot think of another S on the market, that keeps us under the cap, and can be ready in 10 days if something goes wrong. It is a fine signing that had to be made because of mistakes made 150 days ago.

It is very strange that we have at some point this FO has done good job of identifying guys like Poyer, Hyde, Jordan Philips. Guys who can fill important roles in this defense that are under the radar. But then struggle with it going forward ever since.

The inability to replace Poyer/Hyde with a complete pairing has really put our entire secondary on the backs of Taron Johnson and now Christian Benford.

It's really not that different than the players that transition into coaching.

I agree, but why not just put him on the coaching staff then?

Yeah, it’s dumb.

How much did Micah Hyde help last season? I saw no uptick in safety play last season after Hyde was signed to the PS.

We have coaches. We need talent. We don’t need washed up has-been’s. It sucks saying that because we all loved Poyer.

Hyde was still over coming injury that was probably career ending.  I’ll take what Poyer currently is on the field over Hamlin.  Hamlin never had juice, Poyer just doesnt have the same juice.

they already have like 3 guys dedicated to coaching the secondary.  He is here to play.

Poyer will start the second half of the second game after Hamlin and Bishop run into each other and put themselves in concussion protocol. You heard it here first.

Because he probably told the Bills that he didn't want to be in camp. Most long tooth vets hate camp.

Because the max pay for practice squad is $25,000 per week... Poyer prorates to $450K for the season which is way more than a position coach makes.

13-year vets who are former All-Pros don't sign contracts with former teams to be on the practice squad all year and mentor younger players. If this was the intention, it would be unprecedented.

.... Last year Hyde did just this.

That's my point. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if he started Week One the way Hamlin and Bishop looked during the preseason.

Hyde was not on the practice squad anywhere close to a full season, actually.

Not the full year and I doubt Poyer is on the PS or active roster all year.

Get in shape and elevate if an injury happens.  I think Poyer passes Hamlin on the depth chart by October.

One thing is abundantly clear about McDermott:  He will take decision-making over athleticism every time. Every time.

McDermott wants the guy who reads and reacts correctly on every play. If he's a half-step getting to where he needs to be, McDermott will live with it.

Ayahuasca is a great decision

Very unlikely. He needs more ramp up time after missing camp and preseason.

I already said to you that the only difference is the timing.

I definitely hope this is the case. And even better I hope Hancock turns into be something special and is the third guy if one of the starters gets hurt.
