I probably won't get another Toyota. Ain't bad... This is my second Taco... But meh... WtF can't Toyota do things like include the tailgate lock in fob... Gotta go aftermarket to tie one in... Same with adding trailer brakes, had to add aftermarket. Also... The slightest little loss of ground at battery, won't kill the vehicle, but electronics go schizo... For the life of me couldn't figure out why radio was rebooting, other electronics acting squirrelly... Had a bad ground adapter (after market) running offnegative terminal so I can have extra power distribution box under hood. Seems Toyotas are built too sensitive. Terminal block tests fine, but just doesn't play nice... Had to get a replacement... Probably last 5 years too. Probably go back to Jeep. Still running my 2006 Jeep TJ... They hold value better than Toyota. Jeep 😂 … I suppose if you like rust and leaks, a Jeep is for you Quote

Bought it brand new and will keep it forever. Take a look in junkyards... You don't see classic Jeeps, CJs, YJs, TJs, & JKs... 1 Quote
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Very little rust too... It's a daily driver for 14 years... Little bit where I beat it up. The windshield frame from inside... Hasn't made it out yet. Cheap repair... Can even get replacement in aluminum or fiberglass... Almost 20 years old in harsh Northern environment... Quote

Opinions vary … I actually sold my 03 TJ and bought the Tacoma, and while it was great off road and fun going doorless and topless, my opinions remain. Engine itself was bulletproof however. It’s a Dodge product now, so expect issues 1 Quote
zevo Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I want a new Taco Pro. But the damn shock absorbing seats are a no go for my kids or anybody else that wants to sit in the back. Stupid design Quote

The main problem I have had with them is eventually the roof leaks and I get water in them. One jeep the passenger side in the front had about a foot of water in it. Another jeep it was the driver side, but the carpeting was just soaking wet as the water didn't fill up like it did on the passenger side. Next vehicle I get I am switching to a truck. I was thinking either a RAM or GMC but after reading this thread I am considering a Toyota. Quote
HereComesTheReignAgain Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I am definitely biased, but GM did a great job with the look of the new Colorado / Canyon. I just hit 30,000 miles with no issues. 1 1 Quote

Great vehicle that will last forever. Even in the harshest of environments. I just bought a new vehicle last spring. I shopped around for certified used Toyota trucks. There wasn’t really much out there, and the trucks I found were WAY out of my price range. Good luck! Hilux>Tacoma my man Talban don't need no AC! If you don't mind being made fun of the newer Ridgelines haven't had many issues. Biggest downside to them is no 4WD but most people don't actually need their 4WD. Their loaded up price point is a bit lower than the Tacoma. Still can get AWD though, which is appropriate for what it is. 1 Quote

Golden*Wheels Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I like my 21 Wrangler (2Dr, not much like them), but it did dump its coolant on me (I ignored a recall, stupidly) Quote

I don’t think I’ve ever hated a vehicle before but I could not stand that thing. Felt like getting into a lifted car. Was awkward getting in and out. The cabin was small for a truck. I’m 6’1” and i felt cramped in it. Same issue I had with a Canyon, which was loaded, very sharp looking, but yeah, cramped and awkward getting in and out. I’m 6’0” was about 215 then. Door jamb was in my sight line looking left, felt like I had to crouch down from the roof. Got rid of it in less than a year. 1 Quote

I feel like the Tacoma had something similar. I try to force it out of my mind but I do recall a large blind spot that caused a lot of issues. Quote

The redesigned Murano's appeal to me, and was thinking of stopping into our Nissan dealership to look more closely at them. I think the newer ones are supposed to be better now. But for a while they had major issues with their continuously variable transmissions (CVT). I do think they recently had a pretty big engine recall too. Quote

I also had a 2001 Cherokee Sport (XJ) that was great. That was the last year they made them and then became a Daimler brand and went straight downhill. All other Jeep SUVs in the last 20ish years are garbage and have major, major problems. All the new Liberties, Grand Cherokees, Compass, Renegade... garbage. Known issues with their transmissions. ExiledInIllinois Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) My father drove Plymouth Valiants in 1960s, early 70s... The blue '68 had the gall to "drop" its tranny on my grandmother's driveway... Actually Chevy no better... When my father met my mother, he had a '55... Only go forward. 😆... Always "pull through"... If he wanted reverse, have to crawl under vehicle and screw with the linkage... Maybe it was just him... People don't realize how cars sucked years ago... 2-3 years out, they were spent. Dropping a fuel tank, losing a band after 2 years?? Snowy BFLo winters! Steel bands = Rot. We had a 1981 Mazda GLC, by 1985, the floor was gone... holes so big you can see the road. Rice burners are bigger rust buckets than Jeeps! Ever see an FJ40 Landcruiser today... If you do, it's a pile of rust or worth a zillion dolla! ☝️☝️ ...There's a "pull out" joke in this post somewhere!😆🤣 Edited August 22 by ExiledInIllinois 1 Quote
